Just as they were a few paces from the dining hall, the sound of bubbly childish laughter streamed into their ears. Damien whipped his head in the direction it was coming from, a grin gaping his lips as his gaze fell on the little girl who was no older than four years old, charging towards him. She had broken free from her nanny's clutches at the slightest opening she got, running as fast as her dainty legs would let her.
She squealed as she neared him. " Daddy!" She hugged his legs, tightly, giggling and panting all at once.
" Mirabel," Damien laughed as he lifted her in his arms. " Running away from your nanny again?"
Mirabel quickly pressed her face to her father's neck in an attempt to hide when she saw her nanny approaching as if that would cogently reduce her chances of being seen.
