Ghostly sound of footsteps rang in the hallway. The green frost advanced towards Wei Ren as Li Chong walked.
The last time he saw this man was when he left the Capital City to train under his Grandpa Tian's guidance. He was a child at that time but he still remembered this man's face and voice. Even when he was young he didn't like him very much.
Li Chong was Wei Ming's close confidant. His personal aide, who helped him in his scheming and plotting.
His thin face and small eyes made him look like a backstabbing individual.
He was infamous in the whole Kingdom for his network of spies. There was nothing that escaped his senses.
Wei Yan warned Wei Ren that the most dangerous person in their kingdom was not Wei Ming. It was Li Chong.
"He is making this green frost." Wei Ren looked at the man standing in front of him. Just the sight of this person gave him creeps.
"It's been a long time. Li Chong." Wei Ren spoke as if he was speaking to an equal.
Being from the Royal family, there was no need for him to address Li Chong with any respect.
A faint twitch appeared on Li Chong's face when he heard Wei Ren calling him out by his name. But he still maintained his pretentious smile.
"Unleashing your cultivation base inside the Rescue and Support Infantry's base is a bit unnecessary. Isn't it?" Wei Ren's eyes turned cold. He didn't want to waste time with false pretences.
Li Chong made an apologetic face. His voice became meek and shallow. "This building is way too dark. I was just illuminating my way out of this dark place."
"You should be accustomed to darkness by now. After all, you work best in the dark places." Wei Ren said with a plain face.
Li Chong just smiled. He didn't utter a word.
"I am not here on official business. Young master Wei Yu got injured in a battle. Although it was just a minor setback. So I was sent by Lord Wei Ming to observe young master Yu." He wasn't effected by Wei Ren's bold words.
"Wei Yu is injured?" Wei Ren was taken aback. But he didn't show it on his face.
"It's expected since he is working in the most violent infantry." Wei Ren deduced in his mind.
"I was ecstatic when I heard the news that your body has healed. I wonder how this delightful change occured." Li Chong narrowed his eyes as he slipped a question into his words.
"...It just happened. Heavens control our destiny. There is nothing we can truly understand." Wei Ren was not a foolish boy. He perfectly countered his opponents question.
"I am sure, Emperor Yan must have felt the same happiness as everyone else. Speaking of Emperor Yan. Where is he? The kingdom is facing the enemy yet the Emperor is nowhere to be seen."
Li Chong again started with a sentence that ended on a question.
"He knows father is not in the kingdom." He thought to himself. This was not surprising. Wei Yan and Feng Yu left three months ago. Everyone in the Capital City must have found out about this by now. Naturally, Li Chong was also aware of this information.
"Father is always thinking of the Kingdom. His absence is not permanent. As long as he lives, he will protect the kingdom from its enemies." Wei Ren spoke with unbridled confidence and pride.
"Certainly." Li Chong nodded as if he completely agreed with everything Wei Ren said. He knew that the last line was targeted at him.
Since he failed to extract any information out of Wei Ren, he decided to take his leave. He walked towards the exit. The frost also disappeared after his departure.
Wei Ren was left standing in the dark hallway. He pondered about the conversation that just took place.
His heart told him to stay wary of this treacherous person.
Everything Li Chong did raised questions. Even his origin in the kingdom was a mystery.
"I need to talk to that old fart." Wei Ren delivered the Pill Potions to Li Jian and went to visit Wei Tian in his tent.
