Chereads / 3 Marriages to the Same Man / Chapter 55 - At Death's Door

Chapter 55 - At Death's Door

The wide and barely lit corridor was quiet because everyone was still dancing and enjoying the party downstairs in the grand reception hall. No one was nearby to hear Yanyue's calls for help.

"I'll never let you go!" Wanyue roared after Yanyue, causing her to panic even more. She ran as fast as she could to the stairs to seek help because Wanyue was like a mad woman who would do anything. Murder was not out of the question.

When Yanyue exited the long corridor and saw the light, she bumped into a maid rolling a cart full of food out of a door.

"No!" Yanyue clutched her stomach. Wanyue grabbed her in that short second, pulling her back with force. But inertia was in control, so Yanyue couldn't stop her body and tripped at the edge of the stairs.

Yanyue hugged her stomach because she knew that falling was inevitable. Her life flashed before her eyes, but her baby was all she could think about during that short moment.

"Baby, mommy is sorry. Please be okay."

It was the last words she whispered to her baby before she hit the stairs and rolled down.

Falling right behind Yanyue was Wanyue, who was holding onto her at the very last second and got caught in the action. It was Wanyue's second time falling down the stairs. The first time, she felt pain, but it was well worth it. But this time, she was scared and cried at the top of her lungs.

The maid was on the ground from the incident and saw the horrid scene of two people falling down the stairs. There was also a pregnant woman, so she immediately screamed for help.

The exclamations from all the women were so loud that they echoed throughout the reception hall down the stairs.

A young woman below the stairs saw Yanyue and Wanyue and covered her mouth in fear.

"Someone fell down the stairs!"

In a flash, the men across the floor had already reached the stairs.

"Yueyue!" Yanfeng was the first to rush over to the unconscious Yanyue. Wanyue was on the stairs behind her, but he didn't care to bat a glance.

Beichen was next to him.

Wanyue was still awake, but she was hurt and couldn't move. She yelled Beichen's name to alert him when she saw him stopping by Yanyue's side.

"Ah Chen, help me!"

Beichen looked down at an unresponsive Yanyue and then at Wanyue, who was bleeding from her forehead.

He went over to the woman and lifted her head.

"Are you okay?" he asked with concern, but his focus remained on the unconscious woman with Yanfeng.

Wanyue rushed into Beichen's chest and began sobbing. "My head hurts!"

Beichen had already noticed the blood and was about to lift her to get first aid.

"She's bleeding a lot! Call the ambulance! Where's the doctor?! Hurry up!"

It was Yanfeng's voice that made Beichen stop in his tracks.

"Help her get first aid and a check-up," he said to Sam, who finally made it to the scene a few seconds later.

Beichen let go of Wanyue and took wide strolls over to Yanyue, who was about to be lifted by Yanfeng.

"Let her go," Beichen demanded.

Yanfeng refused and shouted: "What are you doing? I'm taking her to the ambulance right now!"

"I'm her husband," Beichen quickly blurted out and snatched the unconscious woman from Yanfeng's arms.

Beichen was not a patient man. He was already running but going out felt like an eternity. His heart was racing as he looked at Yanyue's pale face. Her hand was still protecting her belly. Blood from her legs was dripping, and some stained Beichen's suit and created a trail following his steps.

The ambulance rushed in from the entrance and laid out the stretcher.

"Your Highness, give her to us!"

The medical professionals had to force Yanyue out of Beichen's hand and take her to the emergency vehicle.

"Blood pressure 134/86! Pulse is 71!"

"She's pregnant and needs medical attention right away! Her baby is going to come out any minute now!"

A spear seemed to strike Beichen's heart. He looked at the woman on the stretcher. She looked like she was sleeping peacefully but had no idea that she was about to give birth. He kneeled beside the stretcher and touched her pale and burning face.

"You have to be okay," he whispered as he found her cold hand and kissed it. His kiss lingered until they reached the hospital.

"Where is she?"

Yanfeng rushed in from the hospital's emergency entrance and grabbed Beichen's collar.

Beichen didn't respond and shifted Yanfeng off him.

"You bastard, I will never forgive you if anything happens to her or the baby!" Yanfeng roared at a seemingly collected Beichen.

"Why do you care? She's my wife!" Beichen couldn't take it anymore and yelled back.

Yanfeng was dumbstruck. "Because she's my hope! I knew her before you. You destroyed her the moment you stepped into her life, you bastard! Her life would have been much happier if she hadn't met you!"

Yanfeng slapped himself. "I'm all to blame! I shouldn't have left her all alone in that Shrine!"

The nurse came out of the operating room.

"How's my wife?"

"How's Lulu?"

The nurse heard "wife" and turned to Beichen.

"She's in a critical condition and losing a lot of blood. We need a family's signature for a blood transfusion and a c-section to save the baby's life."

The nurse whipped out a form, and Beichen signed his name away in a flash, and then the nurse hurried back into the operating room.

"How's Yueyue?!"

Jason came in, followed by Jinchen and Suyin.

Beichen didn't respond, so Yanfeng took the liberty to let them know the situation.

"Oh my gosh, she has to be okay. The baby has to be okay," Suyin said as she buried her head into Jinchen's chest for comfort. The man furrowed his brows and wrapped his hand around her shoulder. He didn't like it when his woman was in distress, but all he could do now was provide her some comfort.

Beichen kept staring at the operating door, but it was still red. He wanted to know how she was doing. He wanted to know about his son. Despite his non-expressive face, his heart was going fast like a cheetah, and he wished that nothing would happen to them.

She could not die!

After a few minutes, another nurse rolled out a radiant warmer.

"The baby is born prematurely and needs to receive care at the intensive care unit."

Beichen went up to the bed carrying the baby inside. Blood had been wiped away by the nurse. He was small at barely seven months old. His head was a little bigger than his body, which was a little less round. Even though his mouth, nose, and eyes were visible, his tiny body parts were merely strong enough to hold everything together.

His son. He was a strong little guy.

"The baby is out now, but how about the mother?" Yanfeng's voice rang out to ask the question everyone feared most.

"The doctors are trying their best. She fell down the stairs and received some critical injuries to her stomach. She has lost too much blood, and we could only hope for the better."

"Their best has to be the best! If something happens to her, let's see what will happen to this hospital!" Yanfeng's threatening voice frightened the little nurse.

"Your threats are not doing anything!" Jason was stressed and fed up with Yanfeng's anger. He was worried too, but intimidating a little nurse wouldn't change the situation.

"The best thing to do now is to remain calm and offer our best prayers!"

Suyin agreed and said: "That's right. I believe that nothing will happen to her. She's a strong woman who can get through this with our support."

"Ah Chen, how is my sister?"

Wanyue appeared out of nowhere.

"Why are you here?" Beichen asked.

Wanyue lowered her head and said quietly, "I'm also worried about sister. Is my nephew okay?"

Yanfeng had just controlled his anger, but seeing Wanyue flared the fire right back up.

He wanted to go up to the woman and slap her, but Jason knew better and stopped him before he took action.

"What did you do to her?! Why did she fall down the stairs after going to the bathroom with you?!"

Wanyue was scared and hid behind Beichen's back. She started sobbing again.

"It wasn't me! I also don't know what happened. We were heading back, but she tripped on the maid's cart and fell! I tried to grab her and was too late and fell with her!"

Her crying got even louder.

"I'm sorry, Ah Chen! I tried to save her!"

Beichen sighed and said gently: "Go back. I'll come and see you after this. You have injuries yourself."

There was a gauze over Wanyue's head, and it looked like she was bleeding quite heavily because blood was staining through the gauze.

"I...I want to be here for my sister," Wanyue replied stubbornly.

In her head, she wished that Yanyue would be dead. She was not here to pray for the woman's safety but to pray to the gods of the devil to take her life. And she wanted to make Beichen sympathize with her because he would be even more suspicious of her if she didn't show up.

Yanfeng finally ripped away from Jason's grip. He blew out a balloon of hot air and sat on one of the waiting chairs in the hall.

The crew waited until the red light in front of the door turned green, which took the whole night until morning.

The doctors came out first to explain the situation.

"The patient is not in critical condition anymore, but she had previous surgery, so she needs a lot of monitoring and rest. You can rest assured that her life is out of danger, and family and friends can see her after she gets relocated to the patient room."

"Another surgery?" Beichen asked the doctor and received a weird look from him.

"Yes, you didn't know? There is a scar on her abdomen. It looked like a serious surgery, so we will carefully and constantly monitor her health."

Jinchen walked over to Beichen, placed a hand on his shoulder, and reassured him.

"She's alright now."

His younger brother was different from him in that he didn't get their mother's love and affection for as long as he had received it, so he never learned how to express his feelings that well. He always had a strong front and acted like everything was under his control, but tonight he saw his brother panicking for the first time.

He heard that his brother did not love his sister-in-law, but that might not be true. He might deny his feelings because of his stubbornness, and Jinchen only hoped it wouldn't be too late for his brother.
