Chapter 11 - Wise confusion

~~Iyoroshye by Mike kayihura ft Dj Marnaud~~~~~~~

Maurice sighed for the one hundred time in the day.

He didn't expect it to be this complicated.

But it appeared as if the universe had other things in mind for him.

He stared up to the next mansion, Ruremesha's mansion, it was a mansion which was simple based on other elite's houses, it didn't have  exaggerated decoration as other houses

It looked plain but displayed Ruremesha character perfectly.

Quiet and self-sufficient.

The gateman opened the gate for his car to enter.

After carrying out that tiresome conference call he had proceeded to go to the household of the victims go carry out a throughout investigation.

He entered his mind replaying the conversation he had had with other families.

****************

Habakuki's family.

"When did she leave?" He asked mama Louange who looked like she was on verge of tears but held it perfectly.

"I think she left after I left for work" She replied.

"Yes, she left like 7:00 am" Clara added looking happy that she came up with that.

"Do you have any idea where she went?"

Clara and Louange looked at their mother who swallowed hard.

"Rita has a third level lung cancer, she goes for a check up regularly" She replied not subtly.

" I am sorry"

"Don't be"

"Does she usually go alone?"

"She usually goes with her driver, I don't trust my kids safety to take other means of transport" Natalia answered.

Louange snorted and Natalia threw her a look and Louange coughed.

He stared at japanese vase nearby.

"Nice vase by the way" he commented.

"Thank you, it was a gift for my husband on his jubilee" mama Louange replied curtly.

" Interesting "

"Did she go with him? That day?" He asked directing the question to Clara who apparently was more informed in the whole household.

"Yes, she even complained that he was late and her appointment was going to be due"

"Are you sure they went together?"

"Of Course, Ritah hate dusty roads and we are in summer, says it remind her how she will be ashes when she die" louange added.

Now everyone was glaring in her direction.

" I am answering his question" Louange threw her arms up in mock surrender.

"Can you call your driver ma'am?" He requested.

They dialed three times until he answered.

"Yes, mama Louange" the driver replied.

"Someone got a few questions for you, it's about Rita, please cooperate" she informed him and handed the phone to Maurice.

"Mwiriwe" good afternoon

"Mwiriwe neza"

"They said that you picked up Ritah?"

"That's true"

"Where did you leave her exactly?"

" I escorted her personally in the hospital and left her to the doctor so I could do other things...I shouldn't have left her that day " he replied with an edge to his voice indicating that he too was sad.

"Did you came back to get her?"

"Yes and she was nowhere to be seen..... I shouldn't have left her..... Mama Louange..... I am sorry.... It's all my fault.... I shouldn't" He sniffed on the other side of the phone.

Mama Louange looked like she was void of emotions at the moment but Clara and Louange sobbed softly.

"I think I am done here" He stood up "Thanks for your cooperation, I will update you in our investigation and please stay safe and strong"

Natalia took his hand and looked straight in his eyes.

"She is young.... very young to go through all this..... First the cancer... then being kidnapped.... It's too much to handle for her young soul... It's eats me every time I think that she is going to spend her last days somewhere horrible or that she may die without seeing her face the last time.....So please save my child..... promise me"

He nodded and whispered "I promise"

He sent one of his men to the mentioned hospitals, DMC hospital to be exact to look into it as he went to another house.

**********************

Mugesha's mansion.

"No.... you don't understand I think our neighbors who live down there in a crappy house they call a bungalow kidnapped our son... I can testify it they were always jealous of our riches....always trying to copy our moves" Nirere, Mama Hughes cried out seeing how her effort to convince Maurice and her husband was going to waste.

"Honey,I think I have told you one hundred time that just because they painted their house the same color as ours doesn't mean they are jealous and want to copy our every move and that paint is popular on the market" Mugesha tried to reason.

"We women have sixth sense, I can tell they are jealous whenever I pass by in my new car"

"They may be jealous but do you think they would go in that extremity to kidnap your son.... Let alone kidnap other kids?"Maurice asked carefully, hoping not to piss off this woman who apparently had a close similarity with a time bomb.

"Who would know? People's mind are wide and I heard that they even work for Satan and they have a little shrine to carry out their sacrifices...Maybe Satan gave them the ability.... " Nirere pointed out.

Bruno, Brian, Mugesha and Maurice rolled their eyes simultaneously.

"That's irrelevant honey" Mugesha commented smoothly.

"Irrelevant..... How is it irrelevant? It's all related to this, motive and ability to do so" Nirere cried out as she now stood up to emphasize her point.

"What proof do you have ma'am?"

"My... My.. guts?" She replied wondering why men's brain functioned slowly.

Maurice resisted the urge to laugh but the twins didn't share the same thoughts as they bursted out laughing.

Their father glared at them.

"Sorry" They added simultaneously

"So you are telling me that you think your neighbors kidnapped your son, their motive being jealous and that they can do it using their satanic ability and in the process kidnapped half of the Minister's children and the valid proof is your guts?"

".....Exactly"

Maurice tossed his agenda aside tired to pretend that he was noting down whatever she said.

"If I ever handed this statement to police do you know that you could be charged of blasphemy?" He asked

"But... "

"I want you to be serious here,No more bullshit your son's life is at stake" she nodded, He picked up the agenda again "Now, when was the last time you saw him?"

"I don't remember...."

Maurice raised his eyebrow.

"I mean... I was in Rubavu at the time it all happened " she run to her defense.

Maurice sighed and glanced over Mugesha who was having internal battles at time.

"He left around 7:30, he was in hurry" Brian answered.

"In hurry? in hurry to do what?" Maurice paused to glance over at the twins.

Brian shrugged his shoulders.

"I don't know..."

"Well, he mentioned going to see Bill" Bruno provided.

"In that early morning?" Maurice inquired.

"I asked myself the same question" Bruno replied.

" Any enemy in your minds?" He asked.

"I think I shared my thoughts on that" Nirere replied.

"Honey...." Mugesha started and she rolled her eyes " I can't think of any enemy, I presume that comes with me being a minister of drugs, I mean why would anyone be my enemy because I increased or decreased the supply of paracetamol or increased tax on ibuprofen?" He added.

Maurice considered it to be a valid reason but decided not to voice it, he stood up from his seat.

"Then this is where it ends and for your safety ma'am please refrain from talking about things you don't know, speaking from experience"

He had sighed in relief when he got out of that house but didn't know that the worse was still coming.

**********************

Sibomana's mansion.

"Papa Bill..... I think you have been overreacting about this situation and maybe it would have been good if you overreacted it toward your son helpless situation.....not against him" Uwase cries out as she stood to level up and look her husband straight in the eyes.

"You pampered him beyond caring he became a wimp child..... How every male on this universe mock me..... Me... Sibomana ... I worked this hard to achieve everything but to only get an excuse of a child.... Damn the heaven" Sibomana retorted.

Maurice cleared his throat but that didn't disrupt the scene in front of him.

" Don't you fucking dare call my son a wimp..... Just because he's not a show off like you... He is just a little unable to many things but not a wimp" Mama Bill sneered.

" I am a show off?.... Okay let's say he is not a wimp but unable and whose fault is that?"

" You ofcourse, Because he's grown up in the shadow of a dominating father"

"I am not dominating, I am a pushover if you ask me" Sibomana bellowed as he banged the table loudly.

"Dominating or a pushover still the same to me... You always become much too handle as days go by" she also banged her hand on the table.

Maurice should an apologetic and awkward smile to Mercy who looked like he didn't care, he only shrugged as if he was used to it.

" Says the one who have become a perfect definition of a prostitute"

"Now you are accusing me of being a prostitute..... Do you even know why he resorted into using drugs.... It was a sort of defense mechanism against you"

" You can't blame me for his idiocy"

"He used drugs?" Maurice couldn't help himself but ask and didn't know if he was grateful that they finally noticed that he was there according to the glare he was getting.

"Don't act all surprised kids nowadays aren't what you call saints and ours shouldn't be an exception." Sibomana replied shortly before averting his attention back to his way wife.

"Could have been a saint if you ever cared about him!" Mama Bill sneered.

"I cared for him!"

He stared both at the parents who apparently looked like they were on drugs themselves.

"Not really surprised" Maurice noted that down.

"Not enough to end that fascination you had to make him perfect.....No one is perfect and I think you need to get that into your thick skull"

"Other kids are perfect..... "

" And by perfect you mean Shema....I swear to God you are going to rot in hell"

"I will find you opening the gates"

Maurice clapped his hand tired of them wasting his time.

"Thanks for showing me this fantastic family confabulation but... I think that's not what brought me here"He said as he waved his hand to get their attention fully.

They looked again weirdly as if wondering how he got here at first.

Maurice was starting to regret why he even volunteered to go in their household personally instead of sending his trust men or talking over the phone.

But his curiosity had got better of him as he decided that he wanted to check the atmosphere at the household and now by judging the atmosphere, he started to get out unconsciously believe what the abductors have said.

That the kids ran away.

Not sure why his would run away.

Maybe because he was recently forcing him to marry and give him grandsons.

Thoughtless kid.

Tsk .

"When did you last see Bill?"

"I don't know" The parents said at the same time even Uwase who complained about her husband not caring about his son.

"He come here at 7 pm " Mercy answered.

Maurice resisted drive to ask if he lived here or not.

"Did he mention that what he was going to when he left or specifically where he was going?" Maurice directed the question at Mercy who was obviously mature than his parents.

"Going to buy drugs obviously" Sibomana commented. Now Maurice wished he have brought a paper clip to shut him up.

Mercy rolled his eyes.

"He was here go get his DJing tools, I think I heard him talk about going to some epic party but didn't say where"

" I never approved of his pastime hobbies" Sibomana commented.

Maurice wanted to ask him how he was  the minister of association and welfare if couldn't associate with other people or care about the welfare of his child.

"Shush"his wife whispered.

"Was he with someone ?"

Mercy nodded.

"I think he was with Hughes in his car.... a weird setting If you ask Bill can't stand Hughes" Mercy exclaimed.

"Any enemy in mind?"

"The drug dealers he worked with" Sibomana offered.

Maurice sighed as he noted that down at least it was reasonable than jealous neighbors who copied someone's paint color.

"I think he's an exact replica of both you, Lost and clueless" Maurice commented to himself but the parents caught it.

" Did you just say what I heard?" Sibomana bellowed angrily.

"Here we go" Mercy commented and face palmed himself.

******************

Maurice wasn't sure if sure if he was happy that he is was out that dysfunctional family or angry that they kicked him out like a lower level beggar but decided that he was both.

He had started to feel like this was a waste of time as he wasn't getting anything useful only family drama.

He dialed Kayirebwe hoping to interrogate her through the phone give that she was a busy woman and to add to that He trusted her to tell him the truth over the phone, Mama Melissa she picked up immediately.

"Any news yet?" She asked without going through the pleasantries.

"Not really...."

Short silence.

"I thought maybe you could tell me where the girls where going that day it could really help us" He asked with a more gentle tone than the one he used on others.

"I don't know Mauri....." She sobbed lightly "Not because I don't care for my daughters"

"I know it... I am in no position to judge you" He replied also feeling his emotions at edge.

"At work, we had more patients had to work three straight days without stopping" she paused " and you know how Melissa have always been a wild girl... never telling me where she is going or been but my Kirabo.... I don't want to imagine how she is faring... Always hated strangers... Let alone to stay in their company..... My poor babies..... How can ..?" She cried openly.

"Marie, please don't...." He had tried but she hung up on him to cry in privacy.

Don't make me feel useless than I am already.

*********************

Rubagisha's mansion.

"When did Manzi leave?" Maurice shoot the question straight as he sat down wanting this to end over and hoping that they would not end up to be another dramatic dysfunctional family.

"Don't know" Rubagisha shortly answered.

"Don't you elite family have other words in your vocabulary other than 'I don't know' ? Maurice asked sardonically now annoyed beyond reason.

"Excuse me but before we even go farther and you make further assumption in this family whoever reaches twenty years of age leaves this house to study how to live on their own, I made that rule so that him and his sister could learn what life is really outside there not living here under me forever and they made me proud as they made their living easily as it's inborn.... And I reckon that not knowing his whereabouts or the time of his departure is a normal circumstance" Rubagisha answered calmly.

Maurice scratched his head wondering if admired the man or detested him.

"Okay... Let me change the question..... Do you have any idea where he went that day?" He asked again.

"He just told you that we aren't clingy parents to know that kind of detailed details" Ituze Agnes answered radiating the same aura as his husband.

Silence.

"Maybe you should ask where he works"Rubagisha offered feeling that they have went far in annoying the already annoyed the younger man.

"Where and why exactly?" Maurice asked his face lightning up a little at the piece of information he was going to get.

"At the Kigali public library and he is a hard worker, he should have gone there earlier to work" Rubagisha added clearly proud of his son.

Maurice scoffed and wanted to add a petty comment like 'why didn't they tell him that before instead of telling him their solid parenting plan' but decided he wanted a proper escort out.

"And please if you want help.... Call me... I can help you being the minister of Justice and all and I am being sincere" Rubagisha added looking straight in his eyes and Maurice knew he was serious a  decent man by that simple eye contact.

He was grateful that it was short and at least informative and he decided that they were a normal family except for their weird solid parenting project.

He decided he liked them.

***************

Kabera's mansion.

"He usually went to work early" Kabera replied with a smile as he poured green tea in Maurice's cup.

Maurice was still dazzled to answer because of their over hospitality because Kabera and Mama Shema have welcomed him with bright smiles that could make the sun look dull offered him  making pitiful comments how he have not probably eaten the whole day doing investigation to save their children and when they finished pumping him food they offered him tea.

He wondered how they were cheerful after their only children were abducted.

"Oh I see" He commented, sniffing and observing the drink to see if it was drugged with some mood altering chemical but drank anyway hoping to rotate his mood 270°.

"Quite a workaholic if you ask" Kabera added with a knowing smile.

"What about Linda?" He asked their cheerfulness starting to bother him.

"She went with him, she is an intern at Jabana textile you see" Mama Shema replied with a smile which marched the same her husband had.

"You must be proud of your children I see" no complaints, how odd Maurice thought as he stared at them.

"I can't ask for better children" Kabera replied his smile never faltering, Maurice could swear he saw Assumpta's face twitching.

"Any enemy in mind?"

Silence.

"None in particular, We are quite a lovable family and modest people we don't go around making enemies" Assumpta replied.

Maurice wasn't satisfied as he raised his eyebrow.

"Maybe If you say business competitors and I know the owner of safintra, He is nice man, more interested in filling his belly than kidnapping people" Kabera added.

He got up to go and Assumpta handed him a paper bag filled with take aways he looked at her in incredulity.

"Please eat, you are starting to loose weight after I saw you this morning and have some sleep to get energy to look for our children" Kabera remarked.

"And we are sorry about your son" Assumpta looked at him as if she wanted to tell him something.

He entered his car and waved awkwardly as they have escorted him to his car, He shook his head to see if the mood alerting chemical have worked on him too but he felt the same.

That made him frown, something was off with those parent.

But he didn't want to find out.

Maybe after he found his son.

***************

Kayitesi's family.

"David told me that he was going to see Manzi at work" Kayitesi curt off Maurice before he could even finish his question.

Maurice looked at her and her husband, her appearance screamed money while Jules looked humble in his seat far from hers.

"Did he have other plans in thought?" He asked.

"Did your son?" Kayitesi asked with an eye roll clearly still annoyed about this morning incident.

"Maybe If you didn't check, it's me who is supposed to interrogate you not the other way round"Maurice pointed out.

She rolled her eyes.

"He maybe planned to go for training.... He is a basketball player" she flinching at the last sentence.

He noted down that.

"Enemy in mind?" He paused to look at them carefully hoping for a more creative answer.

"Everyone" Kayitesi answered firmly, Jules snorted.

Maurice nodded in agreement surprised that the woman wasn't oblivious as she looked.

"That's why I was always against you joining the politics..... It's dangerous and now our son is being punished for your insolence and greedy" Jules remarked more than loudly startling Maurice with his deep voice.

"We are not having this conversation again" Kayitesi answered with an eye roll.

"Of course we are not because It can't change your mind" Jules added and stormed inside the house.

Kayitesi rolled her eyes again.

Must be her favorite hobby beside making people feeling uncomfortable, Maurice thought.

"Oh.." he added. Kayitesi stared at him and he got the message that it was his cue to leave.

*******************

Ruremesha's family.

The whole family and their maid stared at him.

He stared back as at them wondering what kind of family they would turn out to be.

Ruremesha had a guffy expression.

Anna was a like a younger version of Chloe but less slutty.

Gloria, mama chloe looked like she have been crying.

Their houseboy looking far in thought.

Maybe a normal family, Maurice thought.

"When was the last time you saw her?" He asked breaking the silence.

"I failed her again....." She broke out crying. Maurice gave her a tissue.

She wiped her tears.

"So when was the last time you saw her?" He asked again.

"I... I.... My baby" She ran out of the room crying followed by Anna who was also crying.

He stared after them, uh? Maybe not normal afterall.

"Sorry about that they have been like that since morning" Rubagisha explained.

Maurice nodded.

"It's the guilt eating them up because we have left Chloe to go on a vacation in Zanzibar leaving her locked up in the house as a punishment for her indecent actions lately to find her gone"

He paused and gestured his maid " hence we brought our maid whom we have left her in protection to oy find her gone" he spoke through gritted teeth.

The houseboy shivered externally going pale opposed  to his dark black skin.

"I am sorry...I was cooking..... breakfast to only find..... her gone" He was shaking fear vivid in his eyes that Maurice couldn't tell if he was lying or just afraid of his employee.

"Are you lying or just afraid?" Maurice asked.

The boy's eyes widened.

"I.... Lie... Would why... Chloe love... my own as sister.... Can't lie" The boy switched to Yoda mode.

Maurice decided be wasn't going to torment the already tormented boy so he switched his attention to Ruremesha.

"Enemy in mind?"

Ruremesha went into consideration.

"My fellow politicians"

Maurice frowned in confusion remembering that Ruremesha was said to quite threatening to other politician for unknown reasons.

"At your age, you should know that in politics if you talk for the citizens you automatically become the target of politicians' hate"

Cha... Cha.... Smooth answer!

When he got out of the mansion, he got a dozen message from his team group.

Eugene: This what we found on the CCTV of the places you recommended it all happened around 7pm and 8 pm.

Michael: After watching it, please tell us what to do next sir.

Eugene: and I have called a conference call for you.

He played the video.

One was of Ritah right infront DMC hospital who waved a car which pulled toward her and she jumped in and the car belonged to Bill who sat next to Hughes.

The next showed Manzi and David hoping into the car next to a girl figure whom he assumed to be Linda and other talk figure who was apparently Shema.

The last showed Chloe waved to someone infront of this mansion and climbed in Shema's car next to Manzi.

*They were apparently going in the same place given the same timeline.

*He didn't know where they finally met or met his son and his own company.

*Or where they went?

But something wasn't not clicking right.

He thought about it for a second and replayed the last video two times.

He paused on the part where Chloe waved and zoomed above the gate window to see the houseboy waving back and grinning at Chloe.

"This son of a bitch..." He growled as he walked back in the mansion angrily to find the houseboy kneeling infront of Ruremesha.

He couldn't care less as he gripped him by the collar to make him stand on his feet making the houseboy's eyes widen about to fall from their socket and Ruremesha stood up in alert.

"Why did you lie?" He asked through gritted teeth.

"Lie... Didn't"

Maurice showed him the screen where he had zoomed him out.

"Do you know that lying to a government agent leads to 10 years of imprisonment?" He asked.

" So... sorry?" The boy stuttered.

"I want you to tell me if you knew where she was going " Maurice yelled.

"Ki.... Kivu.... She was going to Kivu" the head boy managed to get out before his weak knees gave him out due to fear and Maurice let him fall down.

That explained the early departures because to reach at Kivu required long hours, explained why they all had big bags with them going to change into bikini and they were going to have a beach party according to Bill who took his DJing tools adding to Ben's company who were going to a trip apparently to Kivu.

"See? That's all it would have took, why did you have to lie" Maurice asked feeling relieved that the last piece was filled in his puzzle.

"To loose... Going... My job.. Databuja...asked .... Lock..me ... Up.. her" The poor boy replied from the ground.

"10 years of imprisonment? " Ruremesha inquired.

" Lying " he muttered back as he got out with a plan set in mind as he received a phone call from Michael.

Sir, I think we should head to Rusizi right now.

Well, It's on the way to Kivu we are heading to Lake Kivu now.

I think it's not important to go to Kivu now

Why? Maurice asked his excitement starting to vanish.

I think you should go and see for yourself not easy to explain over the phone ...

Then I am coming..

The phone call ended and he started his car heading south weighing possible option how the kids were abducted.

Option 1: lured to Kivu and kidnapped by someone who knew their plans.

Option 2: Kidnapped them on their way their way there and kids blurted out their identities making the situation even worse.

Option 3: Maybe they were in the wrong place in a wrong time when the abductors came to abduct anyone judging by the fact that they also took Kirabo and Melissa and the abductors figured out their identities.

The last two options were more possible if the kids were show off as their parents.
