The way the boat rocked gently in the water, Tristiane could have easily fallen asleep sitting up straight. But she could just see the lights of Haight City in the distance.
It was unlikely that humans would be allowed into Haight-- a city of Sorcerers.
The world was carved out for its various beings, and Haight City was one of the many corners that were occupied by the Sorcerers. One of the many corners that felt were being slowly overtaken by the Sorcerers.
Tristiane tried not to think about "her corner". The way it burned. The way that it was gone now. Haight was her last hope. Their last hope. She glanced around the boat at the strange faces that surrounded her. Everyone was awake and staring up at the lights at the port, and watching one of the human men try to negotiate with the Sorcerer at the dock.
Tristiane could tell when the Sorcerer heard the news about what happened.
It was impossible.
That would never happen.
But it did. The impossible happened. The people on the boat and Tristiane had seen the very evil that would destroy the world. And it started at their corner of the world.
