The sun has not yet risen high when Adrian arrives at his campus. He departs from his uncle's house by riding a motorbike his uncle gave him. His eyes still remains sleepy, after last night he could only briefly continue the rest of his sleep due to last night's dream that is still hanging in his mind. After parking his motorbike, then he walks down the campus corridor, towards the department's secretariat office on the second floor. He attends one of the leading public university in his city, majoring in Criminology and he is in his final semester. Today he has to finish his lecture administration affairs, which is taking care of his final assignment.
Not so many students milling about today. This week is a quiet Sunday after the end of the semester final exams. Just waiting for the test results. Final semester students like Adrian rarely appear on campus. Their activities are only guidance for the final project or looking for reference books for the final project.
In front of the department's secretariat office, there is only Pak Hamid, a diligent and reliable office worker. "Mr. Hamid, who is in the office?" Ask Adrian. "There is no one, sir. But earlier, Mr. Ferry came, leaving a folder for Adrian, sir. I put it on Mr. Ferry's desk." Mr. Hamid answered at length. "Thank you sir." Adrian rushes into the office, and heads for Mr. Ferry's desk. On the table is a blue folder. Adrian immediately take the map and open it. "Aha..!" Adrian smiles happily. All right. Finally, Pak Ferry, his final assignment supervisor, agrees to his final assignment proposal. Mr. Ferry has signed it.
Lately, his time has been occupied by the administration of his lectures, which requires him to go back and forth to campus. Now the administrative matters are done. He rushes out of the office. "Bugh..!" His body collids with a slender body wrapped in a plaid shirt and jeans.. "Wow.!" Adrian exclaims in surprise. "Hey...!", shouted Erika, the person in front of her. Good to meet you here. I was looking for you downstairs." He said again. "What's wrong..?" Adrian answered as he goes down the stairs. The two of them walk towards the garden, talking about something.
"How is your final project proposal?" Erika asked, smoothing her hair in a gust of wind. They are sitting on a park bench. "I have Mr. Ferry's approval. Here is the proposal." Answer Adrian. "Hm.. Ok. Then our plan is done right? I've contacted my mother. She will prepare everything. She also wants to know when we get there." Adrian and Erika plan to go to Erika's hometown. There is a harvest party that will be held next week in his village as well as a family reunion.
Erika and Adrian have been friends since they first set foot on this campus. They are both members of student organizations there. They participate in many activities together that make them close. However, Erika took a different major from Adrian, namely the Department of Anthropology. The tomboyish girl Erika feels comfortable being friends with Adrian, who she thinks he is more mature than the other friends in her college. "I've looked up the train schedule, looks like we can leave the day after tomorrow, Thursday." Adrian said. "That means we still have one day to prepare." said
"Hey .., last night I had a dream and it was the same dream before. I've had that dream twice, and I don't want to dream it for the third time," said Adrian. "What dream? Erika asked. Then Adrian tell Erika his dream. He still remembers the details of the dream very well. Erika is surprised by Adrian's dream, the same dream repeats itself. And it appears through your dream as if to tell you," Erika said. "Yes, it seems that dream is not an ordinary dream. There's something I need to find out. But what does that have to do with me? Is it time for us to believe in dreams? Adrian said. "But sometimes things happen from a dream. The problem is we don't know how to interpret the dream." Erika said at length. And it seems that the dream is related to you Adrian." Erika said again. "Never mind, we'll talk about that dream again later. I have to go to the library, look for reference sources for my final project. I'm still confused about what case I'm going to make as a final project later." They then left the garden, continued towards the library building.
When the sun is high, they left the campus after finally Adrian did not find what he was looking for in the library. Erika returns to her boarding house which is only 300 meters from campus. In the parking lot when Adrian gets on his motorbike, "I'll tell you what time we leave. Oh yeah, I don't want to bother your family. So I'll just stay at my grandfather's house. After all, there will be a lot of people at your house. Your family is all together" said Adrian grinning. "No problem, the important thing is not to miss the harvest party. I want to make a documentary about the harvest party. You help me be the cameraman." Erika said smiling. "Ok..!" But you also help my final project." Adrian said with a big smile. "Ok, deal ..!" They laughed together.
Suddenly, the handphone in his pocket vibrated. Adrian pick up his handphone, a call from his aunt. "Hello aunty, what's up?" "Iyan, hurry back home..! Your uncle...." Her aunt's voice trembled, sobs were heard. "What happened to uncle?" asked Adrian surprised. "Your uncle fell unconscious, hurry home!" Aunty continues. "Okay, aunty. I am on my way home now". He turn off the handphone. "Erika, I'm home now. Want me to take you home?" Ask Adrian. Erika shook her head, "No need." Erika replied. They headed home opposite. Erika didn't want to bother Adrian. "Ok, I'll let you know later, okay?" Adrian said as he hurriedly got on his motorbike and left the parking lot. Erika doesn't have time to ask Adrian what happened to her uncle. She looks at Adrian's back which is getting further away. There's been a strange feeling in her heart lately. The feeling of always wanting to meet and worrying if she hasn't heard anything from that man for a long time.
Along the way Adrian feels restless thinking about his uncle's condition. This morning when he left the house, there was nothing unusual. His aunt as usual cleared the table after they had breakfast together. His uncle went to his grocery store which was not far from his house. Before he arrived at his aunt's house he would pass his uncle's shop. He looks that the shop is closed. Then he accelerates his motorbike. Soon he arrived at his uncle's house. On the terrace of the house he meets Pak Wily, his uncle's shop keeper. "How is uncle, Mr. Wily?" asked Adrian worried. "Your uncle is in his room," replied Mr. Wily.
Adrian goes into his uncle's room. His aunt is sitting on the edge of the bed rubbing his uncle's hands. Adrian walks over to his uncle who is lying on the bed, his eyes still closed. "Uncle..!" Adrian exclaimed. Her aunt turns to Adrian, "Sit here!" Said her aunt as she stands up. Then Adrian sits down where his aunt has been. "How is he, aunty?" asked Adrian to his aunt. "Your uncle wants to talk to you." said her aunt. Then she patts her husband's shoulder lightly, "Dear, Adrian has come home." Mr. Pramana, Adrian's uncle, opens his eyes slowly. Then he said, "Adrian, I'm sorry. I must tell you about the story now. It's time for you know." His uncle said slowly. "What's the story uncle?" Adrian said curiously. His uncle gives Adrian a photo. Adrian receives the photo, an old photo. Adrian look at the photo carefully. A Photo of a boy and girl each holding a baby. The two babies have similar faces.
"Who are they in this photo?" Ask Adrian. "They are your family. Your father, mother and your brother. You are twins" Answered his uncle. Adrian is surprised. His mother, whom he knew has died, was not the woman in the photo. "This is my mother?" Adrian asked, looking at his uncle. His uncle nodded. "And I have a brother..!" He can't believe it. "Then who is the woman I've been calling mother?" Adrian's voice is heavy, holding back a lump of sadness in his heart. "She's uncle's sister, but she's not your mother son." said his aunt. Adrian is silent. Slowly her tears fell. A lump of sadness that dwelt in his heart now becomes longing. "So, grandpa and granpa aren't my real grandpa and grandma either?" Adrian said slowly. "We love you like family, my dear" His aunt said again... Then his uncle sits back on the bed and tell him about what he has kept for 20 years.
