Clara continued, "they were missing. They had no address of where they came from and where they went. That was suspicious activity and from the looks of air, anyone would say that you were involved in it because you did not raise any alarms."
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.
"Yo-you mean.." she had not reported it. Grace did not even know that she had to report any such thing because her immediate senior was the one who gave her the instructions to do something else.
Clara nodded.
Grace leaned into the chair out of helplessness. "Are you going to fire me, Clara?"
"Unfortunately, I have to." Clara admitted. "You were supposed to report any of such findings, but you were clearly played by your senior, so you were safe there. At the end of the day, the board and the owner have decided that you are supposed to report them to someone. Your colleague, me or the boss wherever you found any of us because we are quite accessible since it's a small branch. All those points were kept. I tried to keep it in your favor and the least of what everyone settled on you getting fired with two months of your pay."
"Fired?" She whispered in surprise combined with dread. Even though she knew where Clara was slowly getting out, she still dreaded it. "Clara, you and I both know this was not my fault. I reported it to him. He told me not to do it."
How was she supposed to know? What is supposed to go to the foundation of the company and check whether the suspense account was created or not? Her senior told her head of the department, told her not to look into such suspense and put it into the suspense account. What else was she supposed to do about it? Override his authority and go to someone else?
"I'm sorry, grace. I have tried. All I can tell you is you have to clear your things out and leave the premises as soon as you can." Clara winced at the end but got up and squeezed Grace's shoulder before moving out of the room.
Really? She turned over and looked behind the door that Clara had just left. This was it?
The vibration of her phone made her jump, and she realized that she was staring at the door.
Grace knew she had to get out before Mr Vega came back. Otherwise, she might get another accusation.
She walked back to her floor, and kept her back back on the chair before she started to collect her things.
The box was complimentary to everyone and grace based inside what letter of her staff had been here. She had tried to always keep her stuff mini here given that she was only in a small cubic space. Someone from the HR department dropped off the recommendation letter that she accepted without a word.
She kept the box in her car and before going back inside to the kitchen. Grace decided that she was not going to meet anyone for now and was going to be extremely petty. More than half of the box was gone so she packed up the rest of it and took it with her. She was going to gorge on those cookies and no one else would get to have her food.
As she shifted the car into the first gear, she cursed throughout the ride. People could go to hell.
People sucked!
