Chereads / The Devil Job / Chapter 4 - Level.... -10??

Chapter 4 - Level.... -10??

A man who apparently wished to commit suicide.

Ripped red shirt and jeans. A face that spoke volumes with simply how ghastly it looked. Skin that looks like its been scratched violently every second of the day.

These traits make the act off carrying out one's death -not so surprising.

This man must've lost his mind!

The dark gravel on the floor flew up as the man landed from such a large distance and height away. His legs were clearly twisted and destroyed, yet he ripped at the kid's skin with fervor.

Maybe he was hungry to be forced to scavenge for food to this extent?

The blue forcefield was steps away.

The remaining kids which could be counted on two hands quickly scurried to the others watching in the distance in horror.

The man...No, the cannibalistic monster watched as they tripped countless times. Once they stepped into the force field, they were apparently non-existent to it, though.

It continued to rip through the child as the kid screamed in excruciating pain. Each muscle ripped through like butter and each scream increasingly becoming quiet.

The tears tried out as the kid's body became cold.

The instant the child died, the monster glanced at the direction the other kids left through and crawled away with his hands as if he was looking at a one way glass.

To the children within the force field, the mere glance of the monster sent chills down their spines as many of them were drenched in cold sweat. The distance between them was so large, yet the cries of the child rang in their ears.

Jean unknowingly creeped near the smiling Ajax whose smile was greatly subtle.

She looked up at Ajax, who was a two or three inches taller than her and said with a shaking voice, "W-what was that?"

The curiosity in her usual voice fully suppressed by fear and tears ready to break out at any moment.

Ajax knew he had to seem scared at this moment, so he put some horror on his face. With widened eyes and a mouth left hanging, he uttered almost to himself, "Why would someone do something like that?"

Most people in the few groups that arrived huddled together.

Few discussed with minimal excitement and mostly horror. Even those that had some sort of problem and were unnaturally excited were horrified with it showing greatly.

With his heart beating in excitement while watching the masses in horror, Ajax controlled his expression with great familiarity.

He glanced at Jean and watched her expression of expectance for a few seconds. 'How unfortunate that I don't have any sort of true leadership experience or talent. Right now, controlling people with optimistic lies would be ideal.

Ah well, for now, blending in should definitely be fine.'

He decided to continue being in 'horror' as things ran as they would.

At this moment, someone had the space around them open as they shouted out loud, "Everyone, stay calm! That thing, no, monster out there must be part of the ones that brought us here. As long as we reason with it-"

At first everyone was somewhat expectant of the idea this person would come up with in their lost states.

The instant the person started the last sentence, Ajax shook his head.

Shouts came from the crowd that overlapped. "How do you know that!?"

"Ok, genius! You do it then!"

It was totally unreasonable, but everyone seemed to form an alliance against that one person's voice as they yelled at them with unreasonable reasonings and demands to increasing extents.

Then every one became silent with nobody speaking out even if they had the intent to, afraid they might become hated.

That was just how children are.

As everyone became lost, kicking around random rocks on the grass floor they stood on, sitting down, or entering the parking lot again, another group entered from the double doors.

Leading them was a girl with straight blonde hair that cut diagonally down from the right to left.

She had smooth skin, a thin nose, and was relatively short. With her chin up, she looked around with emerald eyes and laughed silently with a soft voice.

The entrance into the parking lot from outside was sloped, so despite her short height, the girl was able to be seen by everyone.

As more and more people turned to look to her direction, her laugh became louder.

Once her laughs became silent and all attention was on her, a man to her side with messy black hair that had dark blue green highlights stepped forward and shouted, "Miss Renald!"

Her face suffused a smug expression that looked so very punchable, yet one would feel the urge to hold back on the punch to the point of eventually not going through with the punch.

She glanced around with her gaze purposefully landing on a few that became flustered after noticing her attention on them.

With a smile that became more smug, she was about to speak as she glanced at Ajax, but the instant her gaze landed on Ajax, her smile froze.

With eyes that bathed in the aura of death and a smile that reminded one of the scythe of a Grim Reaper, Ajax noticed her gaze and nodded his head politely.

She unknowingly stuttered when she was about to speak after she felt her body somewhat unresponsive. "L-listen up, you peasants…"

She gained more control as she spoke more fluently after quickly moving her eyesight elsewhere and pushing that matter to the back of her head.

"To make my exit from this place a lot more perfunctory, I'm not going to listen to your foolish chatter. Instead, just listen to me. You either listen to the commands I give you, or have a chat with my friends over here."

The girl, Renald, gestured behind her as 4 kids of different sizes and origins stepped forward, next to the messy black-haired man.

Their movements were synchronized and well trained and those precise movements made it subtle that they carried hidden strengths.

After a few seconds, they spread in both directions as Miss Renald went in between them, as if a blooming flower.

As everyone had just a white t-shirt and underwear, the entire act was surely very comedic.

One kid pursed their lips before breaking into a fit of laughter, bending forward with their hands on their stomach. For some reason, their laugh seemed painful as tears that seemed both depressive and joyful were secreted.

One of the previous four kids that stood behind the girl stepped forward and roared, "What's so funny?"

The kid that was laughing wiped their tears as their voice broke. "Ah, it's just that a few minutes ago a kid died before everyone's eyes. I'm sure you didn't receive as much of an impact as some of us did as you probably only heard about it by ear, but that boy really really died."

The kid that was a boy with black hair with yellow highlights that parted in this middle paused and chuckled before he continued, "Then right after your bum ass comes through here telling us to listen to you, acting like Derrick didn't exist. It was only an hour ago when we were talking to each other about our favorite games over the phone and-"

He once again paused as he parted some of his hair that covered an eye and grinded his teeth, shouting with pure anger, "And then you come through tellin' us to listen to you like anyone would care about what your loli ass says."

The girl waved her hand. "What's important right now is how I get out of this disgusting place. I'm sure they're waiting for my father to pay the ransom right now."

Then her smug smile returned as she pointed to herself with elegance, with her clothing contrasting her intent again. "I am the most well treated of the Renald family, after all."

The boy that spoke up in anger stared at the girl with intense hatred as she spoke more, ignoring his words and expression.

Ajax was only looking at the two parties from somewhere in the middle left of the large group with an impassive expression.

What surprised Ajax somewhat was Jean. As she was a detective, he expected her to push for justice like her father, but it seemed he had wrong expectations.

He sized her up and reviewed his understanding of her, putting his attention to other things as he cared very little for the situation.

During this process, he checked out the floating square that closely resembled a computer screen, glancing at what was happening where everyone else was paying their attention.

'A few arguments, the bodyguard attacked the guy which kept on spewing insults, and Jean still cares so very little…' After quickly processing the situation, he put his attention on the floating screen.

After trying a few things he noticed he just had to think about what he wanted to do to the screen for it to do that action itself.

So, after moving it around to random places around him, including his feet and such, he thought of going to the home screen if that existed.

It was an instinctual thought of any modern human to first go have their options presented before them before making a choice. A home screen would surely contain these options.

He set the screen placement to the girl "upstage", so he wouldn't look out of place.

So, after thinking of going to the home screen, the previous screen minimized infinitely to a top right corner, revealing another screen behind it.

It was a screen with [Job System] on the top of it and:

[Job System

---

Criminal's Job

Level -10: -10,000/0]

Looking at that, Ajax was somewhat confused, but something automatically clicked as he understood something.

Information entered his mind as he understood how to use a few functions of the system.

'Status'

Just as this thought crossed his mind, an ethereal female voice entered his head, while displaying the corresponding information she says.

[Level -10.

Exp needed to reach 0: 10,000

Exp earned in one day: 0

Exp needed to evolve: 10,000]

Now that he reviewed the information, he almost couldn't stop himself from revealing his complicated emotions. 'I'm level -10???'
