Carefully lifting his axe, as he attempted to block another attack, old man Bael deliberately raised his senses to the maximum, as the atmosphere grew tenser. While another snuck behind him, attempting to hinder his movement, Old man Bael immediately leapt up from the ground as he narrowly dodged the attack while using the axe to smack the other in the face, sending it crashing to the ground.
At this point old man Bael could guess that these beasts were toying with him, and if they went all out, he wasn't sure about defending even one of their attacks. But that still gave him a slightly higher edge, as he didn't waste time in using everything in his arsenal.
Swiftly directly his axe towards the fallen beasts, old man Bael immediately used the technique.
Golden hail!
A golden series arc of light shunned as it cracked the armoured scale tailed demonic beast, leaving a slightly visible trace of injury as the demonic beast growled even more ferociously. He had put everything into that attack, hoping to end its lives, but all he left was a deep gnash clearly showing that although he had managed to injure the demonic beast. Playtime was over and he could only hope that he could get Liam and the rest in time.
Everything had just taking place in less than a minute, and judging from the traces of battle around the area, the few remaining corpses of night gyxes was the only stench that permeated the atmosphere.
''tear''
''crack''
Old man Bael immediately felt a presence behind his back accompanied by a scream, turning back his head by reflex, old man Bael saw Cahira held up her sword, as she tried to block an attack from an armoured scaled tail beast.
Observing closely, old man Bael felt a disturbance in his guts, as he had managed to let the demonic beast sneak right past him. Of course, there was nothing he could do if the beast wanted to move right behind his attack, but he had only hoped to keep the focus of the primitive beast on him. However, he was at a loss as he never expected this type of outcome, as the situation has taken a drastic turn of event.
Old man Bael looked up Cahira's armour which was partly ripped off, as a shocking deep cut was imprinted on her arm, while she tried to protect both herself and Boris making it difficult for her to retaliate against the enemy. But aside from that, it seemed he was not going to have an easy time.
The situation didn't look too good, and looking back at Liam and Pergan, he saw that they were exhausted from their previous battle with the night gyxes. And it seemed that they won't be raising their swords any time soon, as they kept on replenishing their mana reserves. Seeing this old devil Bael expression turned grim as there were no more available options he could think of.
But he wasn't down yet, his hereditary bloodline which gave him a great boost in strength, coupled with his high ranked war axe, old man Bael trusted that he could hold out longer until the group recovered enough strength to flee and recuperate themselves find a way to survive.
Charging straight at the demonic beast, hoping to draw its attention from Cahira, old man Bael immediately dashed straight from his current position, drawing the attention of both beasts to him.
Swinging down his axe against the demonic beast, old man bael was about to bear the full brunt of the armoured scale tailed beast attacks, but he was careless. As he was about to counter-attack with his weapon, hoping to clash with the demonic beast again, he felt something coiling around his leg.
But, by the time he could register what it was, he was swept off the ground, with his body being thrown high in the air. The speed at which the 8th tier primitive demonic beast reacted wasn't something even old bael could keep up with, though even that could do little to deter him, as even while in the air, old man bael decided to shift his body, repositioning it as though he still stood on the ground.
Throwing his weapon, old man Bael threw his axe while simultaneously activating -Golden arc- hoping to use the momentum of the force as an advantage to attract the attention of the armoured scale tailed beast.
''Booom''
''Booom''
''Crash''
Even before he could descend back to the ground, old man bael saw some series of blurs heading straight for him, he couldn't even react yet again, till the only thing that covered his vision was the tail of the demonic beast as it attacked him from all sides forming a zigzag like pattern while pushing him further above the ground, delaying his fall as he took the brunt of the attacks from all sides.
For the first time, old man Bael had felt the full brunt of the demonic beast, to say he wasn't in the least distress would be a lie, as his blood pumped with all the strength he had left. Pushing his bloodline to its limit only added more strains to his body as old man Bael could only defend against the attack.
''Boooom''
With just one more attack, it was over. Old man Bael fell, crashing into the ground, although he had survived the impact from free-falling from the sky, his body still laid loosely laying on the ground.
He blinked a few times trying to know what had happened. When he threw his axe, he knew that his hereditary bloodline technique had activated, although he didn't manage to land a fatal blow on the demonic beast, he saw as his axe accompanied with the golden arc of light cutting into the skin of the demonic beast.
He knew that the beast would come running after him since his attack managed to cut through its skin, although it was shallow, it was more than enough to garner the ire of the demonic beast as he had succeeded in landing a hit.
But then the strangest thing happened, as the beast didn't come after him, it didn't chase his body to maim on his corpse. But instead, it fled with enough speed that old man Bael himself didn't know if he hold a candle to it.
That was it, his life was spared. Old man Bael slowly stood up, while trying to pick up his war axe that had landed several meters away from him, as he tried to stabilize his body.
He hadn't even reached the position where his axe had landed when he heard another scream. But this time, it was one filled with the intent for battle, but also accompanied with traces of agony. Slowly looking back, he saw the demonic beast that he had previously failed to land an attack.
Looking closely, the screams didn't belong to Cahira but belonged to Borris who had sacrificed his body to protect that of Cahira. He knew fully well that she couldn't face a beast of such tier, so he pulled his body to protect her, shielding her from the incoming attack.
''Banngg''
And just like that, he died.
The main purpose of coming back and pulling a frontal attack was to protect Boris's life. The strength of each of them mattered in the forbidden land and losing one of them was akin to putting everyone's life in danger.
The mission has already been deemed a failure, as they had just lost a tier 7 lesser ranked devil, with only 3 left, him, Liam who was in the 7th tier, the same as Pergan. Leaving out Cahira who was only a tier 6 lesser ranked devil, falling back behind the rest.
Retreating now would do them much good, as going any deeper would be deemed much crazier than a suicide mission.
Pulling up his axe from the ground, old man Bael trembled, as his body boiled with anger. Sprinting towards the demonic beast, he couldn't stop his body from coming to a halt, as he crashed headfirst to the ground, immediately trying to get up, but his persistence further increased the pain on his body directly immobilizing him.
However all his efforts were for nothing, as he watched the demonic beast pulling Boris body with a clear intent of escaping with its meal, On its jaws clearly showed the lower body of Boris from his waist down, clearly showing the sharpness of its razor-sharp teeth's while the upper half of Boris body laid beside Cahira as she stared at the deformed corpse clearly not understanding what had happened.
Boris had blocked the attack, pushing her out of the way as he took the attack of the demonic beast, as it severed, completely severing his life from his body. Cahira didn't understand what had happened as everything had happened in just a moment, but looking at the dismembered corpse of Boris only made her come back to her senses, yet she still didn't wish to accept the reality she was looking at.
