She hoped that the four of them would be able to charge head-first into the herd of night gyxes even if it was unlikely, she thought that at least pulling Borris out of harm's way would be possible.
''Sigh…"
''It seems we would have to go the other way then, since charging head-first into a herd of night gyxes isn't something considered reasonable'' Liam said, as he had already given up all hope on Boris survival.
''But Bor….''
"IF WE HEAD INTO A WHOLE HERD OF NIGHT GYXES, TELL ME IF YOU WOULD BEAR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE LIVES OF ALL FOUR OF US?'' Liam shouted as he looked at Cahira and still couldn't understand what the clan leader saw in her in the first place.
Old man Bael knew that his cousin didn't want to charge into a herd of night gyxes because he valued his life more than that of others, and that was why he didn't falter a second when disregarding Borris deaths.
At the same time, he knew the reason why Cahira wanted to save Borris, wasn't just because of the same blood running through her fellow clansmen, but because they had a very strange relationship. Although Cahira was a talented individual, she wasn't someone who made use of her brains more often, which made her difficult to deal with at times.
''We are heading east, ready your weapons, we are heading back for Borris'' Old man Bael said.
Liam immediately froze from his argument with Cahira, as he didn't think that the old devil would do this because of a single life.
''But uncle, that would be the same as sacrificing our own life for a situation that is uncalled for'' Liam gritted his teeth, as he tried to reason with the old devil, surely his uncle hadn't grown sympathetic.
''Liam, do you know that a battle fought together with a clansman in arms, is much more satisfying than sending him to the frontlines alone with weapons armed for war'' Old man Bael said.
Liam was speechless.
What was this? Why was his uncle making it sound like there was no other way to get out from this situation apart from heading straight first into danger?
Of course, old man Bael knew what Liam was currently thinking, but that didn't mean he was been sympathetic with Borris, because he had seen countless deaths of both allies and clansmen. Having already weighed the pros and cons of the situation, old man Bael choose to recuse Borris as losing him now would be akin to losing a valuable resource in this dangerous forest.
But of course, that didn't mean he would give Liam an explanation, as his niece was smart enough to understand the current situation, but seeing Liam had already made up his mind, and changing that wouldn't be as easy as convincing him, he chooses not to.
''We have to hurry, I'm not sure he could hold them out for long'' Cahira answered immediately, as Borris life hanged on a thread with each passing second.
Liam still couldn't believe how easily sympathetic the old devil was, although every little strength they could garner were valuable, he still didn't wish to sacrifice his life for another living being, even if it was for his fellow clansmen.
Although Liam's ideology could be seen as inhumane, in reality, it wasn't. As that was an ideology that even an average denizen of the underworld possessed. But coupled with the amount of selfishness that a devil like Liam was born with, took that ideology to a whole new level.
''If that is your decision uncle, then I'm sorry cause it seems that I won't be able to accompany you'' Liam said, as he still didn't back down, while still hoping to reason with the old devil.
Old man Bael sighed as he saw that his niece had gone back to his previous behaviour, which was really unbecoming of a leader.
''Alright, you can head north around the mountains and meet us at the location'' Old man Bael said, as he was already moving to the source of the disturbance.
Although Liam understood what the old devil meant, he had no intentions of following up with the plan. Staying with old devil Bael who was a tier 8 lesser ranked devil, was much safer than wondering about this dangerous forest alone.
Even though he planned to charge headfirst against a herd of dangerous demonic beasts, with the old devil, he still had a higher chance of survival. And a higher chance of survival was still better than none.
....
Meanwhile,
Borris had been trying to stay his ground while using 'golden arc' and 'golden radiance' repeatedly. Trying to buy Cahira enough time to warn the group about the incoming herd, since the path along their road was currently blocked. So buying them enough time to take a detour and escape the encirclement was a plan he didn't think he could accomplish without sacrificing his life.
It was all for the sake of his clan, but he didn't just do it for the clan, but also for Cahira, as she was currently the weakest among all four of them. If he had let this herd pass through, her life would have been the least capable of survival. That would also mean her sister wouldn't let the matter rest as she won't remain still when hearing about the death of her beloved sister.
Their clan was going through a very stimulating stage right now, so every strength they could muster was a big help to the clan.
Swinging his two swords with perfect coordination, Boris stabbed through the thick hides of a night gyx -thereby sending it to its demise. Drawing back his swords from the beast's dead body, Boris stood his ground once more after slaying 2 primitive demonic beasts.
Just two!
And he has almost depleted his mana reserves. Things were getting problematic and Borris didn't harbour any other hopes that he would survive, his armour had already been crushed, falling apart like scraps of metal that looked like it wouldn't stay together with each passing minute.
Handling a single 6th tier primitive demonic beast was already hard enough for him to handle, added to the fact that the whole herd of night gyxes is fully composed of 5th tier and 6th tier primitive beast, considering their demonic traits is not something an ascendant could easily combat against. Borris knew that his luck had reached its limit when he saw another 6th tier demonic heading towards his way.
