Chapter 23 - Misfortunate plight

Cahira didn't know what to do, she wasn't clear about his chances of survival, so she just couldn't leave Borris behind, On the order hand, she had to go back to the group and warn them about the incoming herds of night gyxes.

Yes!

She knew entering into a forbidden land was akin to forfeiting one's life, no matter the chances of survival. The Deadly volcanic regions were mysterious and unpredictable and weren't a place where the results you desired were the outcomes you would expect, rather it was the opposite.

Looking behind to see Cahira still standing there with a dazed expression on her face. Borris gritted his teeth as he activated his hereditary bloodline, immediately his whole body looked like a man whose skin was made of metal, as they excluded a dim light that shone from some parts of his body.

Although the 'golden toothed bloodline' only enhances a person's strength by 5 per cent, increasing Boris physical strength slightly above his current prowess, bringing it from 35,200kg to a terrifying 36,960kg. It didn't increase his mana reserves, as it was rapidly draining. But the boost in power was much stronger than expected.

But not only that, as one of his swords, is a grade 1 ranked artefact that boosted his attack power by 1.5 per cent, allowing him to deal up to 37,514 kg worth of physical damage, combined with his battle prowess, made Boris an elite among his rank.

As expected, a devil with a hereditary bloodline was so much stronger than others on the same rank, thus becoming almost unmatched on the same tier. Looking back as he attempted to call out Cahira, snapping her back into reality while she continued to carelessly stand out in the open.

Golden radiance!!!

Boris immediately used another hereditary bloodline technique whose main purpose was to stun an opponent with a bright golden flair, immobilizing them for a few seconds.

Although it seemed like a very little amount of time, those few seconds were enough to put a sword through an opponent's heart.

Directly positioning himself, Boris threw his sword at the night gyxes that aimed their jaws at Cahira. Although Boris didn't know why the clan leader selected her among the few for such a mission as she was still completely inexperienced, he still couldn't stand back and watch as a girl he treated like a daughter knock at death's door before his eyes. Boris hacked down on the beast, while his other hands pulled out the sword as he went slashing down at the enemy over and over again.

But fortunately, Cahira had already regained back her senses and began heading back to the group at full speed. Cahira looked back at Boris as a series of emotions passed through her eyes, though they lasted only for a brief moment before completely dissipating.

.....

Some minutes earlier

Old man Bael immediately stopped his movement, as he noticed the sudden amount of bloodlust due to his sensitivity been higher than the others, and a series of turbulence that replaced it. Unhooking his battle-axe that hanged on his back, old man Bael was sure to brush his hands against the handles, as they were covered with drawings that were inscribed to the tips of the heel.

Looking at his most prized weapon whose name was the Smiting shattering axe, a high tier ranked grade artefact which was among the highest of its grade, filled his heart with pride as it had journeyed with him through many trials.

Sighing as his intuition for battle had never failed him. Old man Bael immediately got into preparation for the foe they might encounter, along with the others who had just become aware of the disturbance.

''Uncle Bael, it looks like the disturbance is right ahead of us'' Liam said.

''I could already sense that, but isn't that where Boris and Cahira were currently making their way to?'' Old devil Bael said with a solemn voice, as losing a clansman this deep into the forest would not only stunt their progress but would also be disastrous to the clan in its current state. However, that wasn't all that weighed on his mind, as the sister of Cahira wasn't someone he would want to deal with as he was sure that she was one of the main reasons Cahira was chosen as a member of the mission.

''Yes, they headed over there, but going after them now would be a foolish idea, as we would just be heading right into the front lines without knowing what we are dealing with'' Liam said, racking his brains for any useful ideas that could aid their current situation.

Old man Bael unconsciously raised his brows as he looked at his niece who had only been acting like a spoiled brat since birth. Although he didn't condemn it but rather wished he acted this way more often than usual.

''Then we would have to change our current path, which is much more problematic than it sounds'' Old man Bael said.

Because even if he was a lesser devil at the 8th tier, he was still made aware of the fact that his strength wouldn't be enough.

''Something is coming'' Pergan immediately drew his sword, as he noticed something heading towards them at an incredible speed.

As he struck, his sword was countered with that of another blade, looking closely at the individual that blocked the brunt of his attack, Pergan immediately retracted seeing that it was Cahira.

But her face was devoid of any colour, as she sweated profusely, dripping down on the leather amour she wore.

''Cahira, where is Boris?'' Old man Bael said as he waited for her to catch her breath, but it seemed he didn't need to wait long, as Cahira quickly filled her lungs with enough air to speak.

''Boris and I surveyed the area up ahead to make sure that they weren't hidden threats the group couldn't handle, but we were suddenly attacked by a herd of night gyxes''.

"But it wasn't just a group of night gyxes, it looked like a whole herd," Cahira said everything she had seen, since every second they wasted here, the more endangered Boris life would become.
