After a while she heard footsteps and her heart raced
"Come down Betty" she told herself and the door opened. A young woman appeared she took a quick look at her.
"How may I help you young girl?" she asked politely
Betty thought of her as a housemaid
"So fancy" she thought
"I'm looking for my mum"
"....."
The woman took a hard look on the girl and finally let her in. Betty stepped inside and what she saw left her in a daze. The sitting room was as big as her whole house. The chairs were all made with white material and gold with a big screen TV in front of the sitting room.
"Please you can sit"
She sat as she kept on admiring the whole place. She heard footsteps coming towards her and she braced herself for what was about to come. Another young fresh lady came forth but the way she dressed she looked like she was the boss around here. She was her mother. Her mom looked at her for a while she stood frozen without moving like she had seen a ghost
Betty thought otherwise that she disgusted her and felt really bad She bent her head down in dismay
She felt an arm around her.
"My daughter"
"Mum" as they hugged each other they cried for a long time till they finally came down.
"Betty where have you been"
"I..."
"I have been looking for you"
"I thought you were gone" before Betty could speak up her mom pulled her into her embrace and they stayed like that. After a while Betty remembered her dad
"Uhm...mum"
"Yes baby"
"What of....."
Her mum looked at her waiting for what she wanted to say
"...da...d.....dad."
Her Mom stood up immediately she was displeased at the mention of that name. She turned to moved but Betty fell on the ground holding her legs stopping her from moving she began to cry profusely
"Mum....mum...mum please"
"Please mum Forgive dad" She began to cry harder her mum couldn't take it and helped her up she sat her down and wiped her tears
"Betty stop this"
"Mum please forgive him dad is changed now he's good now mum...."
"I can't ....."
"why mum?" her mum wanted to reply her but the door bell rang and the young lady that Betty saw ran towards the door. Once she opened the door she bowed and collected the brief case and a man walked in. Her mom stood up as the man gazed at them. She walked towards the man and hugged him
"Whose she?!" he asked coldly
Betty felt her heart jump into her mouth
Her mom hesitated as if she was looking for what to say. Betty felt that if this man got angry that it would be over for her mum she saw how her mum was struggling with her words
"I'm the new house maid sir"
"..."
The man glared at her and the atmosphere calmed down
"Welcome" Betty felt like it was an order and she bowed.
He looked at her mom and smiled
"I'll meet you upstairs"
She nodded
