Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

Dr. Vargas sat patiently on the park bench waiting for Julia's arrival. She flipped through the notes from their previous meetings while watching a flock of pigeons congregated nearby. Since it was their last session, she thought it a good idea to meet outside at a park in central AsunciĆ³n.

"Something looks different about you today," Dr. Vargas said as Julia approached the bench where she sat. "You are radiant. Want to share?"

Julia smiled. "Let's just say our sessions have helped me make better choices."

Dr. Vargas smiled. "I'm happy to hear it. Despite your progress, it would be a good idea to discuss forgiveness. You have a lot of built up anger and need to channel it into something positive.

"Let me guess. You're going to say that I should forgive Louis for all the bullshit he's put me through."

"Actually, no."

"Forgive who, then?"

"Maria."

"Maria? What for? She's done no wrong to me."

"Exactly. But you resent her because she's invaded your territory - President Silvay." Julia sat deflated.

"I understand she is a constant reminder of your husband's infidelity, but that's not her fault. In order for you to fully heal, you need to forgive her. Start by getting to know her. I can promise you she is carrying a burden as well. Most people do. The only difference between you and her is you decided to take a positive step toward addressing it."

"Wasn't my decision, it was my husbands," Julia said.

"Whoever's decision it was, I'm glad it was made."

"Ok doc. You're right," Julia chuckled. "I'll give it a try. In fact, I have an idea."

"What is it?"

Julia smiled. "I know where Maria's mother is. I've known for years. I'm going to introduce her to her biological mother."
