As the door closed behind them, Bai Liling snapped out of her stupor, and approached her sister.
" Physician Wan…please take a look at her."
The average looking old man, who had white hair, and was dressed in silk robes, moved over and attended to Bai Fengxi.
As the physician cleaned and wrapped up the wounds, Bai Liling's body was trembling. The gruesome wounds on her sister's body were deep. And if it healed it would surely leave ugly scars. But considering their circumstances, they might not heal, but she would make sure they did.
' I promise to protect and care for you no matter what happens! And one day get revenge for us!' She swore in her heart.
" The wounds are too deep, but luckily it didn't reach her bones. Make sure to always change the wraps and don't allow water to touch them. " The physician said as he packed up his things.
" Yes, Elder." Bai Liling replied as she helped him carry his things, and escorted him out.
On reaching the door to the room, the old man stopped and collected his box of medical materials from her, and said,
" Her condition is very critical. It's a miracle that she's alive, but she can not move her body. "
Bai Liling's hands curled into fists, as she listened to the physician's words.
" She might never be able to stand up from the bed. " With that said, the physician opened the door and walked out.
Bai Liling stood behind the door for a while, keeping her emotions in place, before turning around and walking towards her sister with a smile.
" Fengxi…I.." The words she wanted to say got choked in her throat as she saw how her sister's face was bandaged up.
" Don't hide the truth from me. I know our mother is gone. She died while protecting me. " Fengxi's voice was croaky and dry.
Bai Liling's eyes watered, and tears pooled out. The strong image she had put on cracked the instant her sister spoke the truth.
" Fengxi….wu wu wu wu.." Liling held her twin sister's hand tightly and sobbed.
Bai Fengxi could understand and feel every ounce of her emotions. She had been in a similar situation as now, and surprisingly, she could feel the emotions of the body she is inhabiting. The only difference was that she didn't have a shoulder to cry on.
Tears streamed down her face, as the memories that weren't hers rushed into her head resulting in a splitting headache which she endured silently without making a sound.
The memories kept playing in her head like a rewinded movie, until it integrated deeply into her mind and heart.
" He abandoned us. We were cast aside like rags, and bullied to their hearts content. To eat three times a day proved delusive. I…had to do humiliating and hard jobs to provide for us. I had been through a lot, and there were times where I had wanted to give up but I couldn't. " Bai Liling said amidst sniffles.
She had finally said it! She had poured out her burdens, and now she felt lighter. The pool of tears gradually stopped.
Bai Fengxi used up every ounce of her strength to lift up her hand, and wipe the tears from her sister's face.
" Now…You won't be alone. We are in this together. " She comforted her with a smile. Bai Liling nodded with a bright smile on her face , as she also stretched her hand forward and wiped the tears off Bai Fengxi's face.
" Silly me ! You must be hungry, I would get food for you. Just wait a while. " Bai Liling pulled the old quilt up to her neck before exiting the room.
A minute after Bai Liling left, Bai Fengxi's expression changed. Her face was bleary. Now that she was alone, she could sort out everything that had transpired, and know of her current predicament.
In the original plot, she was already dead, and the blackening of the villainess began. But currently she was alive, and her sister was still a bit …innocent, which would lead to the collapse of the original plot.
" This time…I will live my life to the fullest and protect my loved ones!" Her expression didn't fluctuate as she gazed at the distant sky with determined eyes through the holes in the dilapidated roof.
Just then , her sister entered with a tray. From afar, Fengxi couldn't tell what was in the bowl, but she knew it was food.
Her sister sat beside her , and held the steaming wooden bowl in her hands. She scooped a portion out of the bowl with the wooden spoon, and blew on it for a while before placing it inside Fengxi's opened mouth.
Umm! Ommm!
Fengxi slushed the muddy like substance in her mouth before swallowing it. It was a spiced up porridge. It had vegetables in it. From its taste, she knew her sister had gone extra miles to get the fresh vegetables.
" It grew behind our courtyard." Liling said, answering Fengxi's upcoming question.
" En. It is delicious." Fengxi knew that her sister couldn't cook, but circumstances forced her to. And moreover her sister was eight years old. So the only thing she was capable of doing right now was to compliment her.
Liling's eyes glittered, hearing the praise. She fed Fengxi with much enthusiasm, and in no time, the wooden bowl was empty.
" Rest a bit, okay?" She said worriedly. She was supposed to get her sister into a sitting position before feeding her , but in order not to aggravate the wounds, she didn't.
" Okay. "
Fengxi burped slightly in satisfaction. Her eyelids dropped, which she had tried to stop but couldn't. Only the gentle rhythm of her breathing echoed in the room.
A serene and peaceful face was the image Liling met after coming back from where she went.
[Five Peaceful Hours later…]
Fengxi groggily opened her eyes. She looked around her surroundings and sighed. She had better get used to this new world.
She looked beside her to see her sister sleeping soundly. With all she had been through, she needed to rest.
Fengxi looked away and started thinking. She was an anomaly in this world or not…. She couldn't start debating on that. Sooner or later the truth would be revealed.
Right now, she is very vulnerable and weak. She couldn't eat, move , and do things on her own. That's just how weak she is. She is no different from a paralyzed patient. Even though her situation was tight, she had a Golden finger. She knew almost everything about the world. Why didn't she know everything?
The author skipped some parts in the plot and left some in suspense. But that didn't matter. The information she had was enough.
Following the plot, what would happen next is -
" Fengxi…you are awake. " Liling yawned and stretched out her arms like a cat.
" Yes." Fengxi replied.
" Fengxi…we are leaving. We will never come back to this place. " Liling said after hesitating for a minute.
" Okay."
Liling stared at her sister with wide eyes. 'She just accepted like that without any questions?! ' She didn't expect that kind of mature reply from her sister . They say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.
Liling smiled and nodded her head happily. She kept muttering, " That's good." as she packed up the little things in their room into a bundle. There wasn't much, anyway.
" Wait here! " She skidded out of the room. Fengxi watched her go with a helpless smile on her face.
This sister of hers was a villainess from the beginning. The next scene that would take place in the plot was-
[ Bai Liling's abysmal gaze swept across the endless sea of people, before resting on a woman. Her dark eyes narrowed carelessly, though there was a hint of cautiousness in her expression.
" I want compensation for their deaths. My mother's entire dowry. " ]
Fengxi had re-read the sentence several times, looking back and forth at the word "compensation" .
It could be said that the villainess manner was mischievous and tough, yet they were also indifferent and careless towards danger.
Bai Fengxi had a hunch that her sister went to get the dowry. Because in the original story, Bai Liling was able to survive and rise up due to the dowry.
Now that she didn't die, that doesn't mean the behavior of the people would change. It's a pity she couldn't see the drama that was about to happen.
" Ah! There will be more exciting ones in the future. "
