I was surprised with his brusque manner and immediately stood up. I guess old habits die hard. I was once treated like this by the man I cared about deeply. I don't want to acknowledge it, but receiving that treatment from Edison really hurt. It hurt more that it did before. Why?
I was still mulling things over in my head when I bumped into something that is rock hard. I looked up and felt my cheeks heating up. I can feel my forehead tingling as well as my elbows. It seems that he extended his arm to steady my when I bumped into him. I really do not know why Edison can elicit such strong and extreme reactions from me. We just met!
I bumped into Edison. Why am I such a klutz. I have to be vigilant and careful so as not to touch him again. But, he was facing me. He should have known that I would bump into him if he did not move. He did it on purpose! I lifted my face and looked at him as if he was a bacteria smeared across a petri dish. I could actually see laughter in his eyes even though he still has his poker face.
"You did it on purpose!" I accused. "You know I was coming but you did not move."
He shrugged and said "Let's just say that I wanted to know how you would feel in my arms."
"Jerk." I shouted. "Why would you want to know that!" I started walking away from him. But I was so mad at him that I turned around again and said, "You're a lunatic. Just plain crazy."
"Hey! You were the one who was not paying attention. So you have to deal with it." he said with a slight smirk on his face. "Besides, all ladies wants to be touched by me. Consider it as an honor."
"Well, news flash. I am not like those women. And I certainly do not consider it as an honor." I bellowed not caring about people passing by looking at us with amusement. "Horror. It was a horror on my part and not an honor!" I lied to him and to myself as well. I just can't accept the things that he can make me fee. I am not just ready for that again.
"What did you say?" he asked. Anger written all over his face. He started advancing towards me. When I saw this, it made me subconsciously take a step back. When he saw this, he sneered.
"Well, I guess you were lying then, eh? You felt something for me, didn't you?" he asked. He is purposely spurring me on. Hah! As if that would make me spill my guts. It would take more than that to get the truth out of me.
"Dream on, Hunt. Keep on dreaming." I laughed manically making sure that he will not be able to tell that he is making me flustered. I saw Jefferson coming out of the restaurant. I stopped walking backwards and started to make my way towards him.
When Edison saw this, he sneered again and asked, "Change your mind sweetheart?"
"Keep dreaming, Hunt. Keep dreaming." I responded. With that I walked briskly away from him with Jefferson in my arms. I half-hugged, half-dragged him away from the Ogre.
"What was that about?" Jefferson asked. "Did you two fought again?"
"You just won one million dollars." I said. "How can you be so nice and he be worst than a jerk? Are you sure that he is your bestfriend? Maybe you think of him as one but he doesn't think of you that way. Why don't you stop talking and hanging out with him and come with me. I am the best friend that you can ever have." I said while peering sweetly at him.
He chuckled and shook his head. "You both are really similar. You are just too bull headed to admit it. Well, I am not unfriending anyone today. Neither you nor him. Why would I do that when I can have both of you and hang out with the both of you?"
"Since when have you known each other?" I was really curious about their friendship. It is not too obvious since they do not spend their time talking to one another but you can actually see it once you observe them. Their actions compliment each other. It seems like they always have each other's back even when one would not say it out loud.
It made me miss Bryanna more.
"Well, we met when I just came her. I came from Wilson country. My parents died in a car crash and I was told that the case was closed due to lack of evidence. We just heard that the driver was drunk. I heard that the Weinstein's Group are sending volunteers to Kirk City for some Medical mission. I volunteered." he said. "And I will reserve the rest of the story some other time. I will tell you about it over drinks." while winking at me.
I suddenly heard my phone ring and saw an unregistered number. Thinking that it might be someone from work, I answered immediately.
"Wait up!" came the brief and brusque command. Arrrgh! I angrily ended the call.
"Who was that?" Jefferson asked upon seeing my angry face and peered into the screen of my phone. He then laughed out loud and he was what I wrote.
"Is that how you think of him?" he asked with a laughing voice.
"Yes!" I answered. "And once I made up my mind especially about my impression of someone, it is hard for me to undo it."
That made him laugh even more. I have to be honest, if Edison's smile made me loose my mind, Jefferson's laughter made me smile with him. It is clear and without inhibitions. It is very clear that Jefferson was a person who would be upfront with you and he would show it if he doesn't like something. I am really happy that he was my friend and because of this, I hugged him without prior notice.
