Chapter 20 - Those were the days

It's Monday! I internally screamed as I excitedly rose from my bed.

After so many years of trying to get a job, I finally made it. I will do everything in my power to keep this job. I will stay no matter what comes my way, I promised my self.

I started dressing up. It will take me approximately 15 minutes to reach the building. That is 15 minutes of brisk walking. And I do not intend to appear rushed and disheveled on my first day and the days after.

With that thought, I quickly made my way to the kitchen. I will cook something for lunch later. I currently am running low in my finances so it is better for me to pack some lunch.

I made my well loved braised pork with sweet and chili sauce. I also packed some of the macarons that I made over the weekend. After making sure that everything is set and ready, I hurriedly made some toast for breakfast.

I took a bath leisurely since I still have an hour and a half. When I was done, I opened my closet and looked at my clothes.

I don't have a lot. I did not grow up having the luxury of owning a lot of clothes. All of them were donated and used before. And me owning these in my closet brought a huge sense of sadness to me. These may be in my closet but none of them were bought by me. All of these were given to me by Bryanna.

I have to buy some new clothes on my first pay check, I promised myself. With the thought, I took out the peach colored blouse with large peter pan collar and a white skirt. Good thing she forced me to buy the three different colored shoes. I just wanted to buy a pair of black pumps.

I could still her nagging ringing in my ears. Its as if she was just here with me.

"You really don't know anything don't you. A woman cannot just own a pair of shoes. That is just unacceptable. What would you wear when you have to go on a date?" she demanded.

"I am not looking for someone to date, Bry. I going to look for a job. I don't need three pairs of shoes." I quietly reminded her of the reason why I would be leaving for Kirk City.

"Stop arguing and leave everything to me." she started walking away from me.

Left without a choice, I tagged along with her. She started leading me to the women's section. I looked at the endless rack of clothes with horror. But when I looked Bryanna, her face tells me that she is in paradise.

We are just as different as night and day. She loves fashion while I do not understand anything about it. She loves men and had tons of boyfriends while I only loved one man. She grew up like a princess while I grew up as a pauper. I noticed her looking at me like a person with evil intentions. I began to regret letting her drag me into this.

"What are you doing over there? Come here sweetheart and start choosing." she commanded.

I hesitantly came over and when I did I grabbed the nearest blouse that I could reach and said, "This is all I want. One is enough."

She looked at me like I had sprouted wings and horns. "No way, in heaven will we leave this place with just one." she said angrily. "If you are worried about it, pay me back once you start earning. So come with me, try these on."

We left the department store after three grueling hours of looking, trying and discarding. I ended up going home with ten blouses, three blazers, five skirts, two slacks and three pairs of shoes. She also made me buy some t-shirts, skirts, shoes, denim pants and jackets for casual wear. She also made me buy three different purse. All of which can be used either for work or going out.

"I'm famished." she said. "Let's go grab early dinner so that you won't have to cook." She then went inside a restaurant we both like. They serve great food there and the ambiance is also really good.

I thought we were done but I was sadly mistaken. She dragged me to a popular boutique that sells evening wear. I vehemently told her no but she ignored me. She made me try two dresses. One is a black cocktail dress and the other one is a champagne colored long gown. I loved both of the dresses so I quickly tried it on. I have never worn anything this extravagant, I thought. I saw the knob to the fitting room being turned and I knew that she wanted to see me in the dress so I opened the door.

Her gasped was enough for me to know that she approved of both dresses. She then handed me stilettos that could go with both dresses and a matching evening purse.

"Just a little more for your hair and make and you are good to go." she half mumbled to herself. "I will teach some basics for make up later."

And she did just that. She patiently taught me the what each item in her kit was for and what I need for the basics. She also told me her skin care routine. I never knew that it was so tedious. I was just so used to just using soap in washing everything. From hair down to my body.

Those were the days.

Today, I decided to wear the nude peep toed shoes matched it with a white Baguette bag that she made me buy. She wanted to buy some designer bag but I threatened that I will no longer talk to her if she did. So she settled with some cheap but elegant looking purses. I completed my look with a very light make up. I watched tutorials on how to achieve a natural look even when using make up.

I gave myself a once over at my full length mirror and I smiled without knowing it. I looked good at the ensemble Bryanna had for me. I quickly took a picture of myself and sent it to her with a caption, Thank you my stylist. Off to work now. Love you.
