Chapter 26 - Chapter 24: The talented one

Monica uses her magical fingers to keep a test for Abbe and Selene.

Monica: Good hunting!!

Selene and Abbe reach an isolated place having artistry walls.

Selene: Can you see anything?

Elf Abbe: Weren't you listening, Selene ? Monica wants to see what we can do individually.

Selene: Yeah...but still we can work.

Elf Abbe: No !! You're on your own.

Professor: You are wrong. Neither of them were ready for this.

Monica: We won't know that until the test is over, will we ? Now what test shall we use?

Monica picks up a glass bottle....

Professor: Shadow cloud.. you can't be serious.

Monica: If we don't push them, how we will know what they are capable of ?

Monica uses her magical fingers to disappear from the scene. She reaches the park and opens the lid of glass jar.

Professor: I want it on the record that I do not approve of this. They are not sufficiently experienced enough to handle shadow cloud.

Monica: They might learn something in trying. So might we.

(rumbling noises)...

Elf Abbe uses her magical fingers to destroy the cloud.

Elf Abbe: See ? Thats how it's done.

Selene: I wouldn't be so sure. You have just made it bigger. And way badder!

Elf Abbe: If we can't disperse it using magic, then we need to contain it.

Selene: How do we contain smoke?

Abbe thinks....says (Thanks)...

Selene: What did I say?

Selene runs...

Selene could see her friend approaching near the dark cloud, she uses her magical fingers to make him fall afar. Meanwhile Elf Abbe uses a vaccum cleaner to absorb the dark clouds.

He groans...

Selene: What happened? Are you okay?

Jake: I don't know, something hit me. Did you see it?

Selene: Uh, see what?

Jake: The weird looking cloud of smoke.

Selene: No ...

Jake: You must have!

Selene: What?

Jake: Black smoke, it was right there.

Monica: That test was about following your instincts. Abbes' instinct was to employ a potentially risky strategy to keep magically hidden, whilst dangerously visible...but her risk paid off. That was a textbook example of how to contain an outbreak. Although, next time don't be in such a rush that you forget to go invisible.

Elf Abbe nods her head...

Monica: Hers is the sort of thinking we need at the DMI, because our job is about making difficult choices...

Selene: It wasn't right..

Monica: Something to say Selene?

Selene: What you did risked my friend's life! I don't care what you're trying to teach us. That was.. irresponsible.

Monica: Let's be clear. You tried to help a boy rather than deal with a threat, that could put the entire human world in danger. At the start of the day, you said you would do anything to protect our secret.

Professor: Monica!!

Monica: I understand how you feel, Peter. But because of her human connection she will never truly be part of the magical world.

Professor: Selene will stay.

Monica: Are you sure, you want to do this?

Professor: I'm Selene's teacher. The decision is mine.

Monica: I suppose I've should have expected this from you. Abbe, come see me sometime.

Monica leaves the library...
