Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: There is still hope

Meanwhile, on the bench, Diego, tied with several chains on his chest, sitting on a rolling chair, said to Robert:

- Hey, Robert - said Diego - could you bring me a little water, please?

Robert ignored him, and Diego said:

- I designed this plan - Diego said - If you are safe, it is thanks to me. A little gratitude.

- You're under arrest - said Robert - rest a little

- I ask you for a little water, nothing more. Please - said Diego - Could it be a little water?

And Robert nodded. Later, he came with a disposable glass of water, and gave Diego

- Thank you - Diego said - You have a bad face. Do you sleep badly? Do you wake up three, four times a night, at least? Hey?

Robert just remained silent and thoughtful, until Diego told him:

- Hey, Robert - Diego said - if you need something, talk, whatever, here I am

- Thank you - said Robert nodding his head and left

When he was far enough away, Diego approached Gustavo with his wheelchair and said in a low voice:

- It is the weakest link - Diego said - Palpitations, excessive sweating, insomnia. You would have to free yourself in guarding him. He won't be able to pull the trigger

- Why do you think I'm not going to kill you when I let go? - Gustavo asked Diego

- Well, I blew your head off with a stick, and you blew my eyes out. Boards. A pact between gentlemen

- Are you asking me to trust you, you piece of shit? - Gustavo asked

- What I'm telling you is that outside they decreed a truce - Diego said - they will not enter armored vehicles. We are in a bloody cold war. And you and I are captives

- So what? - Gustavo asked

- You would have to become the agent of chaos we need - Diego said - in Alien, the eighth passenger, in John McClane in Hard to kill, in the John Wick whose car was stolen and his puppy was killed

And Gustavo just stared at Robert in a serious and disturbing way.

While this was going on, Lucas and I returned to the storm pool. This place was our lair. That place was vital in order to complete the heist later on. Walking a bit and going up a few stairs, I reached the robbery monitoring area.

Liz: The Professor came to the storm pool thinking about Lucia. Exactly like Alberto when he got into the ambulance. It's curious how you can think of the same person at the same time in so many different ways. They say that love moves the world. But hatred is not far behind.

- You were right - I told Liz through a call to the bank - Lucia is alive

Liz was happy to hear this and asked:

-Where is she?

- In the tent - I said - I imagine they are questioning her

-How long can she be there? - asked Liz

- I don't know - I told Liz - but they will give her the 72 hours of preventive arrest anyway

- At some point they are going to transfer her - Liz said - can you rescue her?

- Not in a transfer - I told Liz - she would be very clumsy of us. It would be a complete suicide

- And what are you going to do? -She asked me-They have Lucia with the whole plan in her head-Including the place from where you call me

I was silent for a few seconds until Liz said:

- Professor

- I don't know - I told her - I'm very tired Liz. I can not think. I will find a solution, don't worry.

Then, I heard a metallic sound, and I could see Lucas cooking, and he said to me:

- I make ravioli - Lucas told me - you need energy

So he continued cooking. Then I asked Liz:

- Is Diego still tied up? - I asked Liz

- Yes - she said

- Come over and tell him the following - I said, but Liz interrupted me

- No. I'm not going to tell him anything - Liz said - he would bite my face

- You're going to have to do it - I said - Tell him this: "You have a message from the Professor. Lucia is alive. She is detained in the tent, and I need you to think something to rescue her"

- He won't do it - Liz said

- Listen to me - I said to her - all I want is for Diego to fall in love with the plan again and to have him inside her again. You go and tell him, I'll think of something. Got it?

- Got it - Liz said and hung up the call

I rubbed my face, thinking about what to do to fix everything that had happened.

- I observe footprints on the surfaces - said Alberto, while he was checking the ambulance with a suit, gloves, glasses and a special mask for the situation, together with his group - the walls are full of plans, maps, diagrams ... I see a kiln. They may have used it to remove evidence. I proceed to examine it.

He grabbed the oven, set it on a small table, and opened it.

- You can see plastic remains of a possible electronic device - said Alberto - I begin to separate charred elements.

He began to separate the items that had been completely burned until he found a chip that had not been destroyed.

- I think we have something - Alberto said when he found the chip and held it with a tweezers.

After the examination of the ambulance, Alberto placed the chip in a transparent plastic bag, and took it to Colonel Tamayo to examine it with a magnifying glass, and said to Alberto:

- This bastard leaves us traps even in the bidet - he said - surely they have placed it on purpose.

- Because of how it was hidden, I would say that it is impossible that it was placed on purpose - said Alberto

- So then? - Tamayo asked

- The plastic of the chip has an engraved number of up to 19 digits, unique to each SIM card. This disappeared in the combustion, but during the process, it has been folded over the metal chip and has left only seven numbers printed. We have compared them with the operators and 354 matching cards with this final number have appeared. One of them, bought three months ago, has only made one call. It was during the robbery.

- Bingo! - said Javiera, who left the room where she was questioning Lucia

- Where was that call made? - Tamayo asked

- Wait - said Javiera - a little suspense

Then with her mouth and her hands she imitated a drum roll for a few seconds, and when she stopped, she directed her hand towards Alberto, so that he would give the answer. He sighed and said:

- To Mindanao, Philippines - said Alberto

- Damn, I knew it! - exclaimed Javiera

- We will talk to Interpol - Tamayo said

Antoñanzas, who heard all this, came out of the tent. He went to a phone booth, and called me.

- Yes? - I got up to ask what was happening

- Mindanao. Philippines They know it - Antoñanzas told me

I was shocked by what he told me, and I asked him:

- How was it?

- A half-burned SIM card - he told me

Hearing this, I put the phone down, and knocked the table where I was monitoring the robbery 4 times. And I said:

- This doesn't change anything for you. I need you to enter the room where she is being interrogated now and show her the clock -I told him

- Understood - said Antoñanzas and hung up the call.

Meanwhile, Liz decided to go with the joust to Diego to inform him about Lucia, who was still alive.

- How do you handle the pressure of command? - Diego asked him

"Divinely," Liz told him, as she led her chair away enough from the hostages.

- I am all ears - said Diego - I hear you

Liz approached him, and in a low voice she said:

-You have a message from the Professor: "Lucia is alive. She is in the tent. I need you to think about how to rescue her." That's an order.

- First you give me a putsch and then an order - Diego said - how curious, I would say that it is ... very dangerous, but also ... it is understandable, of course. But there they are, empowered women. All this shit stale. And it's over, little girl.

-Is she there? - Liz asked him

- Hahahahaha - laughed Diego

- What's wrong? - Liz asked him

- To me? - Diego asked

- Are you mad at Mom? - asked Liz - didn't they give you enough suck?

Diego just nodded his head quickly, although Liz kept talking:

- Is that why now you're looking for milk ... like a desperate person? Well ... the order is from the Professor.

She said that, winked at him with a smile, and left. And Diego was only thoughtful.

In the police tent, Javiera took the chip to Lucía in a plastic bag and put it on the table:

- They are in Mindanao - said Javiera - in 24 hours we will have found them. You know the protocol. Paula arrives here, she finds you guilty of child abduction, you lose custody ... and she goes to live with her father.

Lucia was surprised to hear this and said:

- Have you come to tell me I'm screwed? - Lucia asked him - Because I already know that

- It depends - Javiera said giving Lucia a cell phone - I'll let you call them. Here and now. And you put them to safety. When we get to your lair, they will no longer be. We screwed up. I'm not excited that Paula is with that idiot Alberto. What is Paula doing right now? Close the eyes. Imagine her. Tucked in bed. Her hair of her across the blanket. You can almost smell her from her.

- What are you doing, Javiera? - Lucia asked

- It's only five years of waiting - said Javiera - and then you see each other again. She runs in your search: Mom! She hugs you like this. She twists you. With legs and arms, like a little monkey. And you bring her close to you ... and you take her little face. To look at her. But she won't let you go. And she repeats over and over again, like a mantra that will save her from everything bad: "Mom, don't leave me." "Mom, don't leave me." "Mom, don't leave me."

Hearing this, Lucia's face was about to burst into tears. But Javiera told him:

- I know that you love him, and that he loves you - said Javiera - For that very reason. What do you think he would tell you to do? I had offered you five years in prison. I'll trade it for you for five minutes.

By saying this, Javiera tore the documents of Lucía's arrest twice where she would be in prison for a longer time and threw these documents to the floor. And she said:

- I offer you freedom - said Javiera - Joseph goes to jail and you stay free. Your arrest has not been official. The flames, you put them to safety. In 24 hours, you are with them. We will never look for you again. It's all over, friend.

Then, Lucia, with tears streaming from her eyes, and with trembling hands, she grabbed the cell phone that Javiera gave her, and began to slowly write the number of the place where her mother and her daughter were. But, as Javiera was thirsty, she got up from the table, walked to the door of the room, opened it and called Antoñanzas and told him to bring two coffees for herself and Lucia, and just when she was about to call his mother, Antoñanzas put his coffee from hers on the table. Lucia looked at him, and then looked at the watch she was wearing, and Antoñanzas left. Then, Javiera sat down in front of Lucia, and said:

- Better? - asked Javiera

And Lucia, nodded. It was at that moment that she knew that the band and I knew that she was alive, and that as impossible and difficult as it was, there was still hope.
