Back to the pirate's ship
I closed my eyes and leaned back against the post, unable to believe our misfortune. The only person who could help us needed help herself.
A deep sorrow filled my heart for all three of us. We were doomed.
"I'm so sorry, Abigail." My voice came out weak and cracked. I didn't know if the girl had heard me until I heard her answer.
"I'm sorry too." Her voice trembled. I thought she was crying. Perhaps she had not stopped crying since she had fallen into the hands of these wretched criminals.
Tears began to flow from my closed eyes—tears of despair and lamentation.
Suddenly I felt the ship moving, and my eyes snapped open.
"Brielle? Can you feel it too?" I asked her.
"Yes, Kira. We are moving and there is nothing we can do... for now," she added, and I smiled faintly. Her optimism gave me courage.
"Brielle?"
"Yes?"
"Can we sit down? I can't stand standing any longer."
