Chapter 42 - Chapter Forty-Two

Alexander

It was pretty obvious to me now that I wasn't finishing the review of that book today. This woman was my happiness and my biggest distraction. I can't even remember the last time that I felt this elated. She brought back sparks to my boring life and I could be myself around her without being scared of what she thought about me. With this, it was now pretty obvious to me that my life with Julie was so boring because Lily here made me feel more alive.  I just stared at her while she played with the girls after she fed them again. The house felt different with her in it like she lightened up the house and brought in the warmth that was missing since Julie's pregnancy. The doorbell rang and brought me out of my thoughts. She looked up at me.

"That must be Kevin or Lia." She said to me as I stood up to answer the door.

"Hey duuudddeee, it's been so long. How's our sexy wet nurse?" Kevin said as he came in while he playfully punched me.

I chuckled softly and followed him as we went into the living area where Suzy sat with the girls on the rug.

"Hey, Kevin." She said and smiled up at him.

"Hey beautiful, how you doing?" he said as he bent to kiss her cheeks. She nodded her head, smiling at him then she looked at me and her smile widened. My heart fluttered immediately because I just remembered what she did to me at my office in the afternoon. I felt on top of the world like I have a dirty secret with her, and we kind of remind ourselves of what we shared a few hours ago in front of Kevin. Kevin looked at me and shook his head and burst out laughing hard.

"Kev, guess what I found out today," I said while we sat down on the sofa.

"Suzy is pregnant for you." He said laughing.

"Shit, no douchebag," I said kicking him playfully and Suzy looked at him and laughed.

"Asshole." She said laughing harder.

"She's the mysterious girl in that picture I found back then," I said and smiled while I waited to see his reaction. He stared at me like he saw a ghost.

"You are kidding right?" he asked and I nodded no and laughed. He looked at Suzy who was struggling to hold in her laughter but failed because she started laughing at him.

"Are you guys serious right now?" he asked as he relaxed on the sofa and crossed his legs. The doorbell distracted us and Dana who was just about to leave decided to answer the door on her way out so we sat back.

"Heyyy people, who missed me?" Lia said as she walked in.

"Alex?" she said as she bent down and hugged me.

"Suzy love, I missed you," she said as she hugged her she carried Katie after she kissed the girls playfully, then she went over to Kevin and kissed his lips slightly then sat close to him. Suzy looked at me then we looked at them.

"What?" Lia and Kevin said together as we looked at them.

"Nothing," we said together before Kevin went back to ask us what we told him before Lia came in.

"Lia, Alex was the one who found that picture I lost," Suzy said.

"You are kidding right?" Lia said.

"The same thing I said," Kevin exclaimed as he looked at Lia before he looked back at us.

"Well, I'm not kidding, it's true. I'm surprised as well, like, what a coincidence." Suzy said while she rocked Kasey to sleep. I nodded my head and nodded towards Kevin.

"So what's up with you Kev?" I asked and looked at Lia. He understood what I was talking about then he laughed hard.

"Well, I've asked Lia here to be my girlfriend but she's still keeping me waiting," he said as he smiled at Lia who was blushing already.

"Oh my God, Lia, you egg. When were you planning on telling me?" Suzy said feigning surprise and anger, then she laughed.

"It's what I came to tell you," Lia said laughing out hard.

"So..." Kevin said as he looked at Lia. Lia looked back at him.

"What?, I'm still thinking, I told you I'll get back to you," Lia said as she punched him playfully. She was shy, I sensed it so I decided to change the topic.

"Kev, have you met the priest for Suzy's mum's funeral, remember it's by the weekend," I said to him. He nodded slightly.

"I'll be going there tomorrow," he said. Lia brought out a part of Kevin that I didn't know.

He was a bit moody after Lia told him that she was still thinking in regards to the offer he made. I did not even know that he'll ask her to be his girlfriend. That was like a first for him. Kevin was the no-strings-attached type, he didn't date even when we were in college.

"Kev, can I talk to you outside for a while?" I said and he looked up at me, he did not seem happy and I knew why.

"Suzy, Linda, and Georgia came over to the house to see you," Lia said then I kissed Suzy's forehead before we left the living room.

"Kev, you don't look happy, and I know why. You just have to give her some time to think. Brighten up." I said to him. "Was it that obvious?" he asked and I nodded. "God, I'm turning to a fuckin' pussy, this is not me, being all moody because of a woman. But Alex, I love her so much, I've never felt this way about anybody," he said and I pressed his shoulder trying to assure him that I understood what he felt, well, that's because I feel the same way about Suzy. "Kev, you ain't turning to no pussy, you're just in love and it's a good thing. At least, it's a good start for someone like you who doesn't even fall in love easily. I'm happy for you and I'm telling you now, calm down, and she'll come around. Just give her the time she wants so that she'll think of what she wants. But it's obvious that she's in love with you too." I said and he looked at me like I was his big brother. "Do you think so?" he said and I nodded in affirmation. My mind drifted off to Suzy, I wish what was going on between us could last forever, I still wasn't sure of what she was up to though she seemed like she was totally in for what was happening between us. I know that she likes me, I see it in the way she looks at me, but I didn't know if she had other plans for herself. She was still my employee and had the right to back out and leave because we were not dating yet. I just hoped deep down inside of me that she would not leave. Now what we needed to sort out was her mum's funeral. "You'll be fine bro, trust me." I finally said to Kevin then we went back inside to plan out for the funeral.
