Chapter 1 - Misery

It was eleven in the morning when the sleeping boy felt a tug on his shoulder. He groaned and turned on his side. He freaked out and cursed when he felt a stinging pain in his ass, hit with thunder's force. "Fuck, mom. Why make my morning unpleasant?" he mumbled in a sleepy voice, rubbing his eyes violently.

"As if I wish to. Get ready, squirt. You're father wants to speak to you about something" his mom said, chuckling at her son's behavior.

"What is it about?", he asked, quickly thinking about what he has done to get a scolding.

"It's all about your future, bub. Chop chop, now. You don't wanna be late. I have to go shopping too, I'll be back by the time you are back", she said pecking his forehead. Jeff smiled at his mom and hugged her waist. He loved his mom so much.

Grabbing a towel he went into the bathroom, thinking about the meeting with his father.

Jeff was a bratty boy or you can say a playboy which didn't go unnoticed by his parents, but he played innocent. Everyone knew what a rich brat he was. His mother was sweet and loved her son and he too returned her the same love. His father or more accurately, step father, showered him with money and fake-affection which Jeff was dumb enough to not notice. And to tell in one word he was the spoiled brat.

But Jeff could be very endearing and lovable too but sadly only his mom saw the sweet side of her son. She gave him her love and warmth and in turn he was caring and responsible when it came to his mom. She had always tried to break the dark wall his son built around himself and the others. It made it look like a cold person, but she knew he was good at heart.

Jeff came out of the bathroom, his wet hair sticking to his forehead, his abs gleaming in wetness, his eyes glossy and lips tinted pink. He looked hot as hell.

Jeff sighed, grabbing his car keys, dressed as usual in totally black attire. He sped down the elegantly built stairs and watched his mom's car go out of the gate. He stepped out of the mansion the mansion and jumped into his Bentley and five minutes was all it took for the boy to reach his destination. He parked the car in his personal garage, stepped out of the car, his dark aura surrounding him and entered the place as if he owned it. And of course, he did. His father, Mr. Jackson was the owner of The Jackson's Modelling, the no. 1 Modelling Company in America.

He entered the lobby and directly walked into the VIP corridor and was ushered by guards into his father's room. He kicked the door open and came in. "Dad, I'm here. Mom told you wanted to talk", he said projecting a fake smile. Yes, he didn't like his father much. He wasn't dumb enough to notice that his father didn't love him much.

"Ahh, my son you're here", he said and embrace him in a hug which he returned reluctantly. Mr. Jackson gestured his son to take a seat, getting seated himself. "Son, I've decided something bright for your future and I'm sure you'll accept it. It will be good for all of us" he said beaming.

Jeff looked skeptical. He wasn't very sure about the whole "FUTURE" thing.

"What is it, dad?", he asked trying to seem interested.

"I've decided to retire my post and hand over the company to you. Of course, I'll assist you till you get used to everything but this is my decision and I hope you agree with me. You'll be the CEO of this vast empire", he said stretching his arms wide dramatically.

Suddenly Jeff felt faint. He blinked few times to bring himself to the present and opened his mouth but words failed to form. "B-but dad you know I w-wanna t-take photography-", he stuttered but was interrupted.

"Ahh photography!" his father spat. "It's the lamest thing I've ever heard. You're doing as I tell. My decisions are to be followed not discussed. You and your bitch of a mom would've died if I hadn't married her. You were nothing, but I gave you everything. For what? For you to take some filthy photos and fuck around? If you thought that, you were the fool. You're taking over the company, that's it! Understood?", he snapped and sneered in a venomous voice. Jeff felt blood rushing to his head in pain and humiliation.

"Yeah! I've got to do whatever you want! After all you don't love me right! You just wanna retire! And how dare you humiliate my mom like that? It was you who married her for her wealth. It was you who used us for our money. I don't know how I have lived with a monster like you as my father! I'm leaving! You don't have to tell me what to do!", he shouted pouring out his anger. He turned to go when he felt his wrist twisted painfully.

His father held his wrist brutally and said "Don't ever dare speak to me like that! Yes, I don't give a damn about you! Yes, I don't love you! After all you are nothing to me!", his father spit out fire through his words which made the boy feel pangs and pricks in his heart.

"YOU ARE TAKING OVER THE COMPANY! That's that!", he roared. Somewhere in a corner of his heart, he felt something crack. He dragged himself out with tears in his eyes.

Jeff rushed out of the building and wiped his tears harshly. He can hear his father's words playing in his mind like a tape record. "He doesn't care what I like. He doesn't love me like all fathers do. I can't have what I have dreamt. This is it. This is how I have to live", he thought aloud miserably.

Crowded with his own thoughts and hit hard by reality the poor boy got into the driver seat and started the car, silent tears flowing over his cheeks. All the way, he was thinking of going home, being consoled by his mom, lying in her lap and pouring his heart out to her.

As he was driving, loud voices from the corner of the road got snapped him out of his thoughts. Jeff turned towards the voices and saw a crowd circled around a practically smashed car. Suddenly he found himself opening the car door and running towards the spot. He was surprised himself as he made his way through the crowd, pushing and pulling.

Jeff peeked into the sight and instantly wished he hadn't. In the middle of a pool of blood, lay a elderly lady, head crashed and badly bleeding. Her clothes were drenched in blood and almost every part of her body was wounded. He suddenly felt nauseous but decided to help the victim though deep inside his heart he knew the person was dead.

He turned the person around to see her face and that's when the time stopped for a second as if grieving for him. He felt misty, as if he was in a dream and could hear his heart pounding painfully against his chest. This isn't it. This couldn't be happening. He was panicking, his mind screaming. He couldn't take this anymore.

It was someone he knew.....

It was someone he cherished....

Someone who really cared about him.....

The only person he loved on earth.....

His mom.

The last thing he saw before he passed out was his mom's lifeless pupils and her dead face.
