"Dammit!" Lilly frowned as she ruffled through her purse desperately searching for something. "where the hell is it" she dumped her bag over the table spilling out all its contents, she proceeded to " carefully look through belongings" however this just served to cause more chaos on the table and some of her things spilled of the table and fell on the floor. Her two companions who sat opposite to her at their small table were busy swapping saliva in an intensely passionate moment, stopped midway through to stare at her like she was the large stain on the wall behind her that hadn't been cleaned for seven years. This is what they call the look of utter disgust. " What is it Lilly don't tell me you forgot your wallet again!" The woman across from her demanded clearly upset.
"ehehehe, it's a funny story" Lilly gave a sheepish smile and laughed and then she shrugged and said "sorry"
" Oh for the love of-MARTIN!"
"Y...Ye...Yes! I'm listening" Martin hastily adverted his eyes from the waitress whose backside he had been admiring and turned to the woman. The Woman in particular saw where his eyes had been wandering but she said nothing and snorted loudly.
"Earlier this month we invited Lilly to our engagement party. Today she called and said she would be treating us, but it seems that that plan has flown out the window and instead we will be treating her to dinner as usual." Martin who wasn't really paying attention said "Sure whatever you want babe" his eyes kept roaming around the restaurant following a certain object around like a cat chases a laser. Lilly picked up her possessions from the floor, organized the ones on the table and placed them back in her purse.
After a few moments a waiter came over to their table.
"Good afternoon what would you like to order?"
Immediately Lilly was in her element " I want a number 2 and 3 with hot wings!"
"My fiance and I-"
"Oh and some hot sauce thanks" Lilly Interrupted the woman just as she was about to speak, the woman took it quite well and gave Lilly a big smile " Martin what do you want the waiter is waiting" Martin took a moment from bird watching and replied " anything is fine"
She turned to the waiter and replied then we'll have two number two's please"
"alright will do" The waiter answered then he said to Lilly " The five dollar discount for employees will be applied so it's only going to cost thirty bucks and the beers free" Lilly nodded "alright thanks but she's paying" she said pointing at the woman. The waiter continued the manager wants to see you at 8:00 in the morning sharp tomorrow though, also I was thinking maybe you and I could go out to the movies next week"
"I would Tony but my family is having a funeral next Wednesday and that's my only free day. sorry"
"You lying bitch!" after the Tony left Lilly's friend berated her " If your not interested you should just reject him nicely"
Lilly rolled her eyes and laughed " Who Tony no way he's a total dog don't let his looks fool you into thinking he's good, he spends half his time chasing women and i've heard he has STD .
Immediately the woman wrinkled her nose in obvious disgust, and then changed the subject" So will you be there?" she asked leaning into Lilly's space. Lilly threw her hands up in exasperation "I will get off my back already Naddie I said I'll be there"
They waited for a while for their food to get served and talked over lunch. eventually Nadia and Martin left and Lilly was left to herself at the restaurant.
........
A few minutes later Lilly crossed the street, heading home with her purse slung over her shoulder she thrust her hands in her pocket and pulled out a credit card and a smug smile slowly crept on her face then she carefully placed it inside her purse and hailed for a taxi
A few minutes later a cab pulls up to the curb and she gets in.
"where to?" the driver asked
"1402 West Hill" Lilly replied and then she closed her eyes laid her eyes back and fell asleep.
"gotcha" the cab driver said as he pulled off the curb and into traffic.
Lilly is the rare type of woman who is completely dependent of herself, In fact Lilly is an orphan. When she was a child she grew up in a broken home, but not in the sense that one might think. Her parents were going through a rough patch in their relationship her mother was unfaithful and her father became an alcoholic. soon they decided to get divorced and Lilly had to see every uncensored moment of their fight and the end of the relationship.
Three weeks to her ninth birthday her parents decided to try and salvage their marriage, they took Lilly to a nice restaurant and the three of them had a great time. Her parents were happy and laughing again, in those short hours everything seemed like it was going to return to the way it was before her mother's affair; but on their way home her mother and father started arguing about something as her father was pulling turning into a highway. Her father didn't see the speeding truck until it was too late, there was a loud blaring sound and then everything went black.
"We're here" the slow driveling voice of the driver seeped into her conscious and brought her out of her dreams. Her eyes were red and puffy, a single tear slid down to her cheek and rested there.
"Are you alright?" the driver said as he looked at her through the mirror" I'm fine she croaked then she reached into her purse and pulled out a few bills" How much?"
"Twenty" she shoved the money into his hands and walked away. "Wait this is too much" the man yelled from inside the car, but Lilly ignored him and kept walking and soon the sound of engine revving was heard and the car became a spot in the distance.
Lilly walked up the steps to her small house but soon she stopped dead in her tracks.
There was a dead man lying on her porch!
