Chapter 1 - The unsinkable Chip part 1/10

As I open my eyes, I find myself in an overly cramped space that seems to look a lot like a chip's cabin. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I noticed the small, round-shaped window above my bed. The second I realize this, I force my body to move, and I position myself on the side of the bed with my feet touching the cold, hard floor below. Finally, in a comfortable position, heavens know I needed after laying in this stone-like bed for God knows how long, I start to gather my thoughts.

Instantly, many questions fill up my head. "Where in the hell am I? The last thing I recall was uh.. fuck; I can't even remember that! What the heck is happening? Why can't I remember anything?"

"More importantly, who exactly am I?"

As the questions keep on coming, my stomach fills up with worry. I swallow hard to try to kip the vile down and myself as calmly as possible.

Even though I can't exactly remember who I am, a feeling tells me I'm probably the freacking out type. Still, there must be an explanation for all of this.

This situation, as weird as it is, has to have some sort of explanation.

Maybe I had an accident and lost my memory; I guess that wouldn't explain how I ended up in this place, or maybe I have short-term memory loss like Doris. The thought put a smile on my face. But, man, was she funny!

"Wait a sec. I remember Doris! Shit! I remember Doris and Nemo, and... little by little, I started to remember every show, movie, or book I ever read.

"That's just great!"

I can't remember who I am, yet somehow I remember a character from a kid's show!" Gotta be honest, I'm a bit disappointed in my brain's priorities."On the bright side, I still have memories, at least movie-wise. Maybe I really do have short-term memory loss. Let's hope that's what's happening here and pray to God my long-term memory comes back soon.

With newfound resolve, I get up from the tiny bed and start to look around the room to se if I can somehow find anything that can explain my current predicament.

To my disappointment, there was nothing of the sort. All there was on this shoebox is a tiny bed and a desk with a mirror, that's it! Like for real! They don't even have the decency to install a bathroom. What kind of low-budget crap of a chip is this? I mentally shake the frustrating thought away and walk myself to the mirror.

My appearance, in a word, shock me.

What the...? Huh?

The realization that I was a kid was, by all means, surprising, even though I couldn't remember who I was or my exact age. Mentally I felt older than the reflection in the mirror. However, the thing that made me lose my mind was the clothes I wore.

"This, what is this?" I was wearing rags-like clothes, and they looked old, like at least a century. "This type of clothing is definitely not from the 21st century. ``Oh God, Where exactly am I, or better yet when? My heart speeds up like a Ferrari, and my hands start to sweat.

Not only was I without memory but also in a different time period.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I took all this information in, someone knocks on my cabin door. The sudden act calms me down. Maybe the person on the other side has answers.

When I open the door, a tall, dark-skin, well-dress, and rather handsome man faces me.

"Hello, young man. My name is Alfred Jones. I came to deliver this letter (he shows it to me with a smile) to the person occupying room 202. This person must be you, correct?"

"I..uh."

I didn't know what to say, was it alright to receive the letter? I didn't even know my name, let alone my room number.

The despicably dressed man stood there waiting for my response, yet he didn't seem to be in a hurry for a reply, so I took a quick look at the door, and indeed it said 202.

That little notion gave me all the confidence I needed to respond.

"Indeed, sir, I am the person occupying this room, and yes, this letter must definitely belong to me."

After hearing my response, the man called Alfred gives me a faint smile and hands me the mysterious letter.

The moment the letter is delivered, the man speaks once again.

"It has been a pleasure to make your acquaintance, young sir. But, nevertheless, I must take my live right away. May we meet again."

And on that note, the mysterious man disappears through the hallways.

"He didn't even give me the chance to say thanks! What a weird guy!"

I decide not to go back into the room. Being in there only helps to suffocate me.

Holding the letter tightly, I close the door. I then walk through the narrow halls of the chip while thinking of the answers hidden inside. I awkwardly smile at the few passengers who pass by me and lightly nod with their tall hats. Wish seems to be in faction right now. All of which also wear similar clothes to my own. I gulp and try not to think about the bizarreness of it all.

Finally, I reach a staircase; let me tell you; They were as narrow as the halls.

"For the love of God, what kind of chip is this?" Calm down, me. After all, this is probably the first chip ever created. The notion of being stuck in some backward time period only made me feel worse.

A minute later and Finally I was outside.

My brain couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. This chip was freacking hudge. What the--?

How can a big chip like this have such crappie accommodations?

Seriously the more time I spend here, the more questions I get.

Sighing, I walk myself all the way to the edge, and man, the view is something else.

Now that I was outside and a bit more relaxed, I open up the mysterious letter.

(Dear Alexander, I know that you must feel lost and with a lot of questions right now. Sadly I can't answer them all. Fret not. I can answer a few that must be bugging you the most. First of all, your name is Alexander Maxwells, and that's all I can say about your identity.

-Second, you must've realized that you are not in the 2000s anymore. Right now, you are in the year 1912 of our lord.

-Finally, I will give you a special gift to survive these current times. As you know, ww1 is around the corner, and the next one is not far off.

This chip you find yourself on is a small test of sorts for what is to come in the next few years. All you have to do to pass the test and get my gracious gift is survive the trip.

-sincerely, your benefactor.)

My heart skipped a few beats. The second I finish reading the letter.

I look at the back to see if maybe there is more, but no luck.

I look down at the ocean, and I think to myself if I should just get it over with.

I was royally scruwed!

Benefactor my ass, this fucker just gave me a fucking death sentence!

And if my suspension were correct, let alone making it past ww1, I'm pretty sure I won't make it through this Godforsaken trip.
