At the same time, in her room in her family home, Souya was lying down on her bed while reminiscing about her past.
[9 years ago…]
It was revealed that she was once who was a part of the Sohma family. But, for some reason, she ran away from her biological family and the Sohma family estate because her parents were abusing her younger sister, and that she was their favorite child. Souya, known as Hana as her real name before running away, couldn't stand that and in the middle of the night, at 9:10 p.m., she packed up her little backpack and ran away from home, never looking back. But before running away, she made a promise to her younger sister that both of them would meet again someday.
So, after running away, she was free, but she was not free of being homeless. Luckily, someone, who turned out to be her future adoptive older brother, saw her in need and being dirty in her nightgown and asked her if she was okay. Hana then looked at him with neediness in her eyes, before revealing to him that she ran away from home and the reason why behind it, as well as not wanting to come back home. That person, a middle school boy named Juro Aikawa, was shocked and felt bad for her. So, Juro offered her to live at his family's house. Hana was stunned and asked, "Are you sure about that?"
Juro then smiled at her. "Yes, you're better off with us. Don't worry, we'll take good care of you."
Eventually, Hana agreed, and Juro took her to his family's home down the block.
Later, at Juro's home, Juro introduced her to his parents, a Japanese-Filipino couple, and explained to them about her reason for being homeless in the streets. Eventually, his parents understood her feelings and took her in as their new child. This made Hana a part of the family. The next day, to cover her tracks, her new family changed her name from Hana Sohma to Souya Aikawa. Ever since then, she lived a good life with love and understanding from her new family and their acquaintances. This happened a year before Souya met Masayuki and Emiko.
