Days passed by, and one afternoon, Masayuki was working part-time at the convenience store after school. He was working well with diligence. But, he got an early off from work so he used that time to go to Shigure's house for a sleepover. Then, after he changed into his school uniform, he looked at the balance of his savings account on his phone. The total balance was 100,677 yen left, and his last withdrawal was a few days ago to pay for his tuition. Although he wasn't into the money, he was worried about his financial situation. He still makes monthly payments for his washing machine and refrigerator back at his apartment home.
"I need to save up more for a plane ticket to the Philippines once I graduate from high school," he thought.
But, he was still confident about his life.
So, he shoved his phone into his bag and left the store to take a train to Shigure's house.
Later, when he arrived at Shigure's house, he opened the door. "I'm home." He and Emiko felt that Shigure's house was their second home.
"Welcome back, big brother," Emiko, who was there before him, greeted.
"Good afternoon, Masa-kun," Tohru greeted, too.
"Welcome, Masayuki-kun," Shigure added.
After he had taken off his shoes, Masayuki entered the dining room. "Hey, how are you, guys?"
But, he noticed a person dressed in a girls' kimono sitting in the dining room.
And that person is Ritsu Sohma, the monkey of the zodiac.
"Uh, who's that person?" Masayuki asked.
"Oh, him?" responded Shigure back. "That's Ritsu Sohma, the monkey of the zodiac."
Masayuki was surprised to hear Ritsu's actual gender. "What? That person is a he?"
Hearing that, Ritsu freaked out and apologized to Masayuki repeatedly.
"Uh, it's okay, it's not even an issue to me," Masayuki said to him.
He then put his bag on the table and sat down next to Emiko.
"So, have you known about him?" he said to Emiko.
"Yes, and it seems that apologizing was in his family's genes," Emiko responded.
"Woah, really?"
Then, Tohru revealed to him that the woman who ran the hot springs inn was Ritsu's mother.
"What?" Masayuki commented.
He then remembered the noise he heard back at that inn.
So, he responded, "Oh, that makes sense."
He then documented it in his small journal with his pen.
After that, Ritsu asked him, "Uh, who are you, sir?"
"Oh, I'm Masayuki Honda," Masayuki said to him. "Nice to meet you, Ritsu-san."
This time, Ritsu tried to calm down in that situation.
Not long after, Mitsu came to pick up Shigure's manuscript, only to be teased and ignored by Shigure, causing her to go suicidal. Luckily, Ritsu sees this and this prevents Mitsu to hang herself. Masayuki sees this, and he was shocked to see that. "What the...? This is going too far!"
He then found out and concluded that Shigure was the root cause of her suffering and insecurities, so he turned towards him while being upset. "Shigure-san, why would do that?"
"Woah, Masayuki, what's with the face?" Shigure responded.
"I'm serious about being mature, and you, you acted like a kid."
Shigure was a bit fearful of his dominating attitude, as if Masayuki was his father.
Tohru and Ritsu are a bit nervous of his attitude.
And so, Shigure decided to go and open the door for Mitsu.
