Chapter 3 - Fate Without Sin

He could recognize the voice the face possessed, but not the face itself. The voice was as if it was the only thing, he had known his whole life. As she stood there in her perfectly fitting shirt that showed off her bosom to the pencil skirt that could not hold those perfectly toned legs.

'A work of art' he thought to see the perfect personification of the word beauty right in front of him.

Why was he checking her out so much?

What was in her that caught his eye, was it the feeling that they had known each other or was it just the superficial that caught his eyes and deprived it of its attention?

He cut this thought and got into his newspaper and read an intriguing headline, 'not seen coming' followed by a column about a robber who fooled the entire task force stationed there with a costume of a member of the task force itself. The paper avoided him from noticing the surroundings but when he did look, he saw the 'beauty' sitting on the table adjacent to him. He again began to take notice of her, looking at every inch of the exposed skin, his fantasies did not allow him to see her departure.

The human mind is amazing, even before he could analyze the situation, his legs began to run behind her, racing ahead of his mind. He made his way out of the cafe and into the busy streets of Wingo. It took him time to spot her but the strangest thing was that he saw her looking at him, directly at him with a smile that took him by surprise and the next thing he knew was that he was plunged into an abyss.

"What would you like today sir?", the clerk behind the counter asked him.

"Um.", he said or rather stuttered feeling the dizziness take him hostage.

"Sir are you all right", the clerk said while reaching out to take his hand.

"Yeah... I am fine", He said getting up on his two feet.

He saw a woman standing in the queue at the next counter, the same woman. He could recognize the voice that the face possessed but could not recognize the face itself. The voice was as if it were the only thing, he had known his whole life.

The events played as if he had lived it before but this time, he paid more attention.

The woman who read a book titled,' STUCK'.

She finished the book and began to walk outside with brisk steps and a constant pace that led to the Wingo state university which was just outside the café. He ran to keep up the pace but failed to do so. In the distance, he could see her holding a sort of button and she mouthed,

"I am sorry"

Then the darkness took me, hostage, again.

"what would you like today sir?", the clerk behind the counter asked him.

He seemed convinced that she was the one causing these sudden revivals. It seemed unfair that he had been trapped in this paradox without any chance of escape. This time he knew that he had lived in this same moment for quite some time now in its never-ending crux. He found it ironic that the book she was reading closely, described his situation of being held hostage to a strange paradox or rather 'STUCK'.

She finished reading the book and thought about how this book loosely connected to her situation.

'Was this fair?', she asked herself

The situation was relatively simple, her son was held hostage by a terrorist and the only chance of her son's survival was her action to destroy the whole city of Wingo. A million lives for one she thought but this was her son.

she reassured herself,' Family comes first' and she walked out of the cafe.

She noticed a man chasing her. She thought that he had gotten to know her situation and that could cause problems for her son. She quickened her pace with each her step, her conscience knocked on her door. Deaf to it all, she mildly tore but continued to walk with a brisk pace.

She reached the spot and smiled at the man who ran towards her, she said, "I am sorry" and let go of the detonator.

The abyss took over the sky and devoured the very life it tried to contain.
