Chapter 69 - New Role in The Battlefield

As the afternoon of Neo Tokyo got darker with the color of the orange light was like a ripe pumpkin, roads were filled by crowds of various vehicles back and forth passing any available building. Office workers with messy, tired faces were mostly spotted on the sidewalk as this was a quite suitable time for them to go home.

Although outside of Neo Tokyo was crowded, Chemistra secret base got a different vibe than the outside as it was full of gloomy cold wind. Misaki in her usual black tank-top attire and sat on top of her favorite, steel chair, gazing at her wrist that popped out a slice mark and the kitchen knife was beside her hand.

No single drop or line of blood fell down from the slice mark. Instead, a sticky, metal string stitched the slashing wound till it turned into a tiny, impenetrable wall. Moreover, the wall shapeshifted into Misaki's clean, white skin for instance.

A pleasing smile formed within her face as she hauled her wrist that was completely healed from the slice wound clutches. However, the pleasing moment didn't last long when her eyes caught a single piece of blood, dripping to the metal ground.

"Still not perfect? How unfortunate?" Misaki exclaimed in an irritated tone before she let out a sigh, "Fine then."

The Chemist grabbed the empty injection tube she used for spawning a regenerative, metal liquid through her whole body and got up from the chair. Her sharp-shot eyes were centered on the metal bed that contained a sturdy, road-grey liquid.

Misaki swiftly headed towards the tube and picked it up in a wandering demeanor as she twirled around the chemical tube. Grim reminders soon revealed within The Chemist mind especially when she held up her long-gone mother, dead body.

That memory soon faded away, but sorrowfulness latched on Misaki due to gritted teeth of regret scorched through her expression. One of the hands shakingly clenched her knuckle the more she endured it.

"Shit, this emotion thingy only bugging me a lot." Misaki bickered, "No wonder, I wanted to erase this and you are right Zero. After Mama's death, cyberization may be the right path."

"Misaki…..what did you mean by that?" The sudden presence of Prime Minister Kamiya and a petrifying voice were quickly caught Misaki's attention.

A haunting shock polluted through Misaki's expression when she met her father frozenly, standing still. His eyes contained a shimmering worriedness that convinced The Chemist to take a sigh and headed towards The Prime Minister's direction.

Prime Minister Kamiya raised his hand, preventing Misaki's confrontational approach, "Misaki please can we just have a talk about your current condition?"

"Sure…..Papa." Misaki bittered in a despairful demeanor.

Afternoon sky slowly went to the sunset phase as there was a cherry light embarked through the whole Neo Tokyo. Even Sakura Forest didn't escape the clutches of the light and smoothly danced flowers left to right.

While The Sakura trees endured the peacefulness with the warming wind flow, an N.T.P.D police car was quietly parked in the middle of the road without any visitor detected. A brown soil ground was being watched over by the fresh, greyish stems.

The sound of thundering noises began to loudly announce throughout the serene atmosphere of Sakura forest. Wild electricity strings could be seen by the trees as they rapidly zapped any available spot of the ground.

Tabata with a struggling grit tried his best to hold a yellowish lightning string that originated from his Onmyouji paper card. Agonizing screams echoed through the whole forest till a slender young man with messy red hair, yellow sweater, short pants with military pants.

"Father, stop it!!!" The red-haired man yelled in a mesmerizing worriedness.

"Sado, don't worry about it, I would not make the same mistake as yesterday," Tabata spoke in a jolly tone.

Sado could only bite his lips in a petrifying gaze towards his father who kept his hard stubborn demeanor. Even though his hand was erupted by shimmering, light that latched on like skin that only increased the painful scream of Tabata, he eagerly remained steady to holding it.

The thought of watching Superheroes dying, seeing Superheroes get beaten or found badly wounded, all of those rounding up within his mind like a wheel. The Officer grinned in excitement as he tremblingly aimed the card on the ground below.

"For decades, I had been a witness to every Superhero activity that happened in Neo Tokyo!" Tabata muttered, "However, time changes because right now I am going to join the battle and…"

"HERE IS THE PROOF!!" The officer added with a glorious howl as he tossed down the thundering card to the ground.

A temporary, vortex wave whirled around on top of the ground, decimating every grass that stood its path to dust as the electric strings widely spread out. However, The Officer must pay the cost after unbinding cast this technique, his stand trembled to the ground and his casting hand constantly shaking similar to being electrocuted.

Sado rushed through help towards his father and witnessed the clutch of electrified skin dimmed out like a broken lamp. Petrifying worriedness painted his whole face as he stopped his steps to see Tabata cough up a gulp of blood through the grass.

"Father, I think you should take a rest." Sado pleaded, "It seemed the curse still remained in your body."

"It's not truly a curse." Tabata replied in a deep tone, "It's more like my rejection to use casting an attacking spell. Yes, magic is sometimes very confusing when it comes to the restriction and rule."

"This is why I highly forbid you to train your onmyouji power." Tabata added in a bitter tone, "I don't want you to suffer odd curses like me, Sado."

Sado clenched his fist and gritted his teeth in regret as he slowly turned to the right. Eventually, the red-haired boy sighed away the burdening air and landed an opened hand towards his father. Tabata turned around and willingly nodded before he accepted his son's help.

Although Tabata was able to steadily stand up, his body felt staggering and his sight became glassy-blurry that acted as a cost of his life of forcefully awakening his power. A concerned look shone through Sado's eyes, especially watching his father cough up another gulp of blood.

Therefore, Sado took out his father's cigarette from the left pocket pants and Tabata reluctantly accepted to wash away his boiling, burden thoughts by placing it on the biting lips. A short relief was grasped by The Officer with him blowing the smoky air from his chimney mouth.

The red-haired boy rubbed his chin and hummed in a pondering demeanor. Moreover, Sado surveyed from up to down onto Tabata who joyfully blew away the clean white smoke as he watched the orange sky.

Observative eyes of Sado began to look down onto the spot where the vortex waved used to occur, now reduced to dust. It left out a roasted, tiny circular ground that had been greased by the grey ashes of the grass.

Then, a bright idea shimmered within Sado, widening eyes and mouth after he spent a couple of seconds. digging for the usage of his father's power. He swiftly glanced his sight towards Tabata that furrowed one of his eyebrows in confusion.

"Instead of fighting, why not become something like a support, father?." Sado suggested.

"A….support? Can you give a further explanation about that term?" Tabata asked in a firm tone.

"I mean when you join the fight with the other heroes, you don't have to cast an attacking spell. Instead, you provide a heal, a boost, and many things that may help the heroes to fight this threat."

"I am aware that your haunting past still prevented you from unleashing an offensive spell." Sado added in a bitter tone, "But, it doesn't mean you cannot cast a support-related spell right?"

Tabata put down his cigarette as he took a glance at his young boy's half worried eyes that brought an optimistic atmosphere. A clear smirk arose through The Officer's lips before he giggled in a jolly tone.

Afterward, Tabata gazed down onto the casting hand, slightly trembling due to the electric skin clutches still leaving a side effect. But, The officer snickered towards the trembling knuckle in a sense of relief.

"Maybe, I should try the….support way right." Tabata bickered before he turned around onto the roasted ground that was being burned by his electric wave.

Tabata upheld his casting hand beside his cheeks and omitted a yellowish energy ball that morphed into a paper card with a Kanji spelled, "Recovery". The officer shut his eyes to inhaling, a gentle calming air that surrounded the Sakura Forest.

Moreover, a short compilation of the moment when he watched the dead bodies of two humanoids invaded his mind, convinced him to grit his teeth in regret. However, the corrupting burden of thoughts was blown away when Tabata opened his eyes widely like waking up from the morning sun.

Bright, jaded energy engulfed the paper card and Sado gave an amazement look from behind, seeing the energy shone similar to a star. Tabata without hesitation immediately tossed down the card to the vaporizing spot of the grass and watched green energy rise up momentarily before it wiped out into dust.

The circular spot that used to be covered by dirty, coal-black dust rapidly regenerated the lines of grass. Furthermore, the rapid regeneration was finished in less than a second and Tabata witnessed the burnt spot being turned into a grassland once more.

Reposed eyes sparked through Tabata eyes as uplifted the other casting hand that landed a healing technique on the grass. Gratification and appeasement were combined into a single chuckle from The Officer as he successfully discovered a new way of fighting.

Sado gladfully gave a thumbs up and smirked, "Father, that is one cool healing spell."

"It is, but I need to discover more possibilities with this support technique." Tabata murmured in excitement.

"Yeah you should. Support is not always about healing as far as I know."

"Agreed."

Another paper card spawned within the grip of Tabata's hand that had a Kanji that spelled, "Toughness". A deceitful look shimmered through his eyes as Sado frowned in a mix of excitement and frightened as he sluggishly took a step back.

"Sado, standstill." Tabata firmly warned, "I am about to test this card as a buff."

"Sure, just please don't put me in the hospital okay?" Sado replied in a skeptical tone.

"I assure you will be fine."

Afterward, Tabata swiftly slung his paper card that moved in a speeding bullet and Sado frightfully bit his lips. The paper landed on the red hair boy's chest that immediately exploded into a million golden sparkles, wrapping around his body before it vanished in an instant.

Not only did Sado feel the card landing like a being thrown by a cotton ball, but he also endured a soft pressure within his pounding heartbeat that raised his wondering feeling within. A reluctant smile widely opened within Tabata as he upheld his fist and charged forward at the unaware red-haired boy.

Sado's heart shockingly raised his eyebrows and it was too late for initiating a block as Tabata's knuckle landed on the stomach. Instead of receiving a hefty side effect, the red-haired boy felt nothing due to a transparent, golden barrier popping out on the whole body.

A bewilderment groan was shouted out loudly from Sado's throat and Tabata gladfully painted his smile with a smile. The red hair boy kept back and forth clenched his fist in satisfaction of receiving this enhancement that soon turned invisible from the naked eyes.

"Father, you did it, it was pretty cool." Sado praised.

"Yes, it is my son and because of this, I might try another variant of buff or boost." Tabata bickered in excitement.

"That sounds fun and engaging to see."

Although Tabata couldn't declare an offensive attack of his onmyouji spell, for now, he proudly discovered a new way of fighting that proved effective. Which was being supported that would grant a buff to the heroes who needed it when there was inescapable trouble.
