Chapter 144 - A Magical Improvement

The day when Alessia rediscovered her mana was an unexpected but welcome surprise. The rest of the day, Secessus decided to teach her more theoretical aspects of magic, such as how to cast spells and his general thoughts when he decides to use magic. This was mainly decided because she did still faint that day and overexerting might not be a smart idea. Plus, Cornelius told them both that her body was acclimating to the rediscovered life force that for some reason went unmaintained for a long time.

Alessia is luckily eager to learn this new life force of hers and is paying close attention to Secessus's teaching. There are a lot of moments where she has to ask for a more detailed or reasonable explanation from Sol. As someone who is naturally talented with arcane matters, explaining certain things at a more novice level is sometimes difficult.

Luckily, Cornelius is nearby to aid in those instances. He isn't eager to help, however, and only does so when completely necessary. Ironically enough, it seems that Secessus himself is also getting trained whilst training someone else.

The day passes by as they all study diligently throughout it. Another evening approaches in Yeorough, the largest city in the grand duchy of Creseytesia. The populace makes its way from their workplace to their home or a tavern, depending on their lifestyle.

As evening arrives, they call it a day, hoping that tomorrow they can truly start practicing. The 3 individuals make their way toward the general training ground of the adventuring guild. Alessia is especially eager to tell Kir about this development.

Kir seems to be almost finished, as not a lot of applicants are left remaining on the training ground. The three watch for a bit, deciding to not disturb their friend when he's working. Surprisingly enough, another instructor approaches the three individuals, even though from his nearly shaking legs and hesitant visage, the instructor doesn't seem too convinced about it. Admirably, he temporarily shakes off the fear and approaches Secessus in specific, telling him that his taunt in the morning had actually sparked some interest.

Someone of noble descent came by in the early morning and heard Secessus's taunt. At first, he didn't pay it mind, but after easily defeating his instructor, he demanded to be allowed to duel the adventurer called Sol. Afterward, he refused to leave and created some trouble, delaying the instructors from being able to rank other applicants and thus creating more trouble. Only, after some time, could they convince him to wait in the lounge whilst he leaves you to be, until your return. Even if he is noble, your lineage doesn't matter in the adventuring guild and since Secessus was an official bronze rank he couldn't just order him to come.

"If he wants to battle against me, then please let him. A promise should be kept, after all." Secessus replies, hearing this tale with a peaceful smile on his face. He looks strangely relaxed at the prospect, which is more terrifying.

"You two can stay here and discuss with Kir for a bit. I won't be that long." Secessus says before following the instructor who delivered them this tale.

The instructor guides him towards the general lounge, as he asks for Secessus to wait a bit. Secessus complies, but keeping his eyes quite alert. Hoping that only this noble will show up and no other interested parties.

Secessus doesn't have to wait long, as soon the instructor returned with a well armored young man next to him. Young man might be an overstatement, young boy a more fitting term for the young face carrying a golden helmet at his side.

The boy has a confident look on his face as he walks toward Secessus. The boy spots Secessus and purposefully starts to walk slower, either scared or deliberately trying to piss him off.

"Here I thought you had run away!" The boy yells, attracting way too much attention. His short crimson hair is quite neatly cut, his sides a bit shorter than up top. The boy certainly acts with confidence which now, seeing his young face, is probably ungrounded.

"What did Ishmet steal your tongue?" The boy says, probably taunting the shade demon. Having no clue who Ishmet is, Secessus remains rather unaffected.

"…" Secessus stays silent, not responding to the taunts.

"Where did all that brav-" The boy, probably trying to start another taunt, gets cut off.

"How old are you, kid?" Secessus asks, his arms crossed, looking like a disappointed parent.

"I'm an adult. I turned 16 around 2 months ago." The boy replies, accompanied by a smug look on his face whilst doing so.

"…" Secessus doesn't know how to reply to the young boy's confident answer.

Taking a closer look, it does seem evident that the child is of nobility. His armor, looks of a high standard and is embedded with enough gems to make one's eyes bleed. The coloration of blue, orange, and yellow probably represent either an affiliated guild or perhaps his own noble house.

"Tell me your name. I want to know it before I beat you." The young noble boy speaks his confident, still not shaken or declined in any way.

"It's Sol." The shade demon replies, unsure about what to do next. He was rather excited at the prospect of dueling someone. That someone being a rich kid is rather disappointing, however.

"Last name?"

"Just Sol."

"Well, I am Tryzan Khiel, sixth son of the count of Heydoningt and 37th in line for the grand duchy of Creseytesia." The boy proudly announces, for some reason, keeping every possible noble lineage in the back of his head.

"Have you ever adventured before?" Sol asks in a seemingly innocent and intrigued tone.

"No, I've just been ranked to the bronze rank. Afterward, my story of glory can begin!" The boy yells, already envisioning things so great that it would need its own book written about it.

"Very well, let's duel in the bronze training grounds then. Since we're both from that rank, it shouldn't be a problem." Secessus simply proposes not even trying for snarky remarks against his young opponent. He just turns around and leads the way, ignoring all the following small taunts and the over the top glorification of the young boy.
