Chapter 123 - The Final steps before the peak

Tossing aside the heavily wounded Mosk, Anima's focuses once more on the more threatening opponents. The 2 priest manage to keep their emotions in check as they do not rush in a frenzied rage. Botwolf starts to walk towards her back as Treyah Tuldani takes the front. Encircling the wraith queen in an attempt to used their numerical advantage. During these few seconds of respite, another divine filled root reaches out. This time towards the body of the disguised Mosk, quickly forming a cocoon around him.

Anima does not react to this protection of their fallen comrade, as she rather continues to spread her misty aura through the church. Treyah Tuldani now walks towards her, filled with divine power and clear rage. He swings toward anima with his large wooden hand, crackling with the bright red power of Luciel. Instead of making contact, with the wraith queen's form, it simply passes through. Anima had during this small respite used the same trick she used against Ergillaz. Four different clones appear in the mist. Only one, the actual real one. One of these wraith queen figures attacks the back of Treyah Tuldani. However, she also just goes through without resistance. That figure seemed to have been a clone.

One of the other figures goes to Botwolf, attacking him straight on. The hunchbacked feline does not react. This figure also slashes through, just like the other. Botwolf immediately turns around as another one of the figures prepares to attack. This time, the hunchbacked wolf devil does decide to dodge, his keen senses playing a crucial part in his decisions.

He howls towards the attacking figure of Anima, before attacking her himself. This figure is the real Anima, as the claws of Botwolf and ethereal blade of Anima make contact with each other. Botwolf uses his other hand to grab the blade. Doing so, it does cut into his hand.

Treyah Tuldani who sees that his companion has sort of grappled Anima immediately sends a large amount of divine magic that way. The destructive bright red spell quickly makes it way across the church as it explodes against Anima and Botwolf.

When the red light disappeared, Anima was still there standing. Not even slightly hurt, Botwolf on the other hand does seem to have felt it. Even having received the lesser amount of impact between the 2, his skin is singed and his breathing irregular.

Anima uses her free hand to hit Botwolf. The punch sends him flying away against the closes wall, almost breaking through it.

"How, ironic. To wield the power of a god yet be unable to do anything of note. I suppose it's fitting for a pretender like you." Anima says, calling out Treyah Tuldani.

The first sight does not respond. He cannot respond, as all Anima has said until now was the truth. He begins to cast again, trying to keep Anima at a distance. The wraith queen simply ignores the spells cast towards her. They do not damage her, almost like a fly trying to hurt a mountain.

Anima quickly closes the distance between herself and Treyah Tuldani. Now in reach, she stabs him with her ethereal blade. The first sight brings up his arm to block the blade, however it still manages to penetrate through his arm and also through the right side of his chest. Treyah Tuldani drops on the ground, heavily wounded as well.

"Look at you all, defeated in a matter of seconds. And you dare to call yourself those who carry her holiness's wish?" Anima calls out, mocking the priests.

"Do you want to know something, first sight? This unity you preach, she doesn't want that. She doesn't care about you as an individual, nor any of us. She cares about what we can offer, and these city dwellers offer close to nothing."

Anima abruptly turns around, breaking this moment of suspense between her and the first sight.

"I didn't expect you here. I must admit." She says towards the approaching figure.

A demon approaches with pure emerald green eyes, wing made out of dark mana and wielding a spear made out of the combination of that dark mana and blood magic.

"Believe me, this was not my first choice." Secessus responds, having now fully entered the church.

"Have you come to stop me?" Anima asks, seemingly truly unsure.

"That should be rather obvious." Secessus replies, not willing to understand the reason for her doubt.

"Join me in my revolution, reincarnate. I can see it in you. You can be far more than these pretenders." She says, whilst stretching out her hand, beckoning for the shade demon to join her cause.

"Why do you call them pretenders?" Secessus decides to ask for multiple purposes. One is just general curiosity and the other is to delay any possible battle.

"They use a power that isn't theirs to maintain what already exists. They maintain someone else's creation. Ruling as if they have always been in power. What else can they be called than pretenders?"

"Usurpers, perhaps?" Secessus replies in a snarky manner.

"To be a usurper, you have to have actually killed the previous owner. But that's not the case, right, Treyah?" Anima does not look towards Treyah even whilst mentioning his name. Her gaze is firmly fixed upon the intruder in front of her.

"What would I be then?" Secessus decides to ask another question. Simply trying to gather even more information.

"A creator and destroyer." Anima replies, not a single doubt in her mind.

Secessus does not reply immediately as silence fills the church. Only the struggling breath of the wounded and the distant screams in the city can still be heard. He slowly reaches out his hand toward Anima's hand.

They make contact, a firm grasp between them. The grip becomes firmer as Secessus focuses blood magic on that hand. With a surge of blood magic, the emerald eyed demon throws Anima against Luciel's statue. Destroying the statue's head in the process.

"In case that wasn't clear. I refuse." The spear wielding demon says out loud, firmly refusing the wraith queen's offer.
