Chapter 117 - Dealing With Beasts

Ergillaz stands up having hit Volathriis, the attacking chimera of him. A sense of annoyance and slight anger permeates in his aura.

'Of course, nothing had to go right. They just had to use chimeras in an experiment. Probably the one they used to summon Eloisa. Should I tell him? What if he decides to redirect his rage on her? No, I made an agreement to protect her. I'll just have to finish this battle quickly.' Ergillaz thinks, trying to regain his calm and a general sense of the situation.

The golden eyed arch devil starts to cast spells whilst Volathriis is still at a distance. His distance spells don't do a large amount of damage. Volathriis is surprisingly dexterous and quick, something fitting for what was once supposed to be a simple mount. The skin of the chimera is also tougher than expected, Volathriis is considered a pillar of this city, so of course some strength was to be expected. However, in the grand scheme of things, him and Ulthris were rather noncommittal. Ulthris was, quite frankly, not close to Ergillaz's power nor his cunning. Volathriis is a beast that has battled with Ulthris before and has won every time. Still, Ulthris never died, so it was generally assumed that both of them had around the same strength.

Ergillaz quickly noted that this way of thinking was riddled with faults. A battle to the death between a beast and an orc should always end with someone's death. The fact that they battled multiple times and that Ulthris has survived, meant that he was spared.

'I never looked into the matter, so I don't know the reason why Ulthris was constantly spared. It shouldn't have anything to do with Anima. Unless she had been meddling a decennial ago, still I doubt it. If that's not the case, then he was trying to preserve the status quo in our city. Which means that Volathriis's is significantly more intelligent and aware than a mere beast.' Ergillaz's thoughts run wild, whilst still clashing against Volathriis in the process.

The chimera called Ha has, in the meantime, disappeared from sight once more. His natural invisibility or camouflage is quite a tricky ability. Still, he won't be able to scratch the bronze skin of Ergillaz. Making his sole purpose to simply be that of annoyance to the of Talvit lineage devil.

Besides, now he's expecting the attack. The battle between Volathriis and Ergillaz has purposely been drawn into a slow stalemate. Gold dust scattered heavily across the stone surface.

'Come on, any second now.' Ergillaz thinks his plan in motion.

Volathriis, the strongest chimera, has also been quite patient during this battle. Its willingness to battle is probably lessened since he's not fighting against anyone from the church. Still, it makes it way forward towards Ergillaz.

At that exact moment, the gold dust scattered across the floor gives away some crucial information. Two footprints appear on the ground, near the elder Talvit brother. Seeing this, Ergillaz turns the gold dust around the 2 footprints completely solid. Making sure that his opponent is stuck in place. Ergillaz reaches out towards the hidden opponent, he managed to capture.

With simply the faintest of touches, Ergillaz's completely golden hand sends his mana toward the chimera called Ha. turning him into a golden mixed with blue sapphire statue, except for his head and neck. Apparently sparing his opponent for the moment.

Volathriis has not simply been standing idly whilst its subordinate has been petrified. In these few seconds, Volathriis rushes forward, coming in close proximity to the powerful arch devil.

Its first simple physical attack was insufficient, so it decided to change its tactics. Instead of a pure beastlike attach, dark flames form in the skeletal mouth. Now in close proximity to Ergillaz, he spews them out. Engulfing the arc devil in smoldering pitch black flames.

Ergillaz's mineral shield is not entirely invincible. Whilst very hard to crack, it does not necessarily need to be cracked. Heating up this emerald based shield is a possibility. Especially when controlling flames of unnatural degrees.

The golden eyed arch devil's emerald shield is melting. The amount of damage is staggering, if the situation does not change in the next matter of seconds, then it was clear that Ergillaz would die.

Volathriis did not have his hopes up. The beast has the best instincts of all the chimera's this includes the instinct to know when a prey is mortified. Ergillaz was not mortified, his feeling are simply those of annoyance and general sense of urgency. He did not even consider the chimera in front of him a hunter.

Gold dust gathers around Ergillaz's frame, with a dim shine, they subdued the black flames around his body. The golden liquid created by his melting begins to flood back up towards its original position.

This sight would terrify most. To watch a man, beginning to melt in front of your eyes, would already be considered quite the gore for the faint of hearted. However, watching him control that liquid that melted of him whilst not even breaking a sweat, is terrifying for even those of the strongest of nature.

Volathriis roars loudly towards his almost entirely petrified chimera subordinate. Shattering the gold around him with his sheer power.

Ha, the lizard fiendish chimera looks worse for wear. Not necessarily physically, but rather mentally. Realization has sunk in that he could have easily lost his life, and that these two are leagues above his own.

Whilst trying to control his breath, the chimera wants to disappear from vision again. However, him and his master didn't get the chance to do anything of note.

A wave of telekinetic force overwhelms them, dragging them both into the air.

Looking at the source of the casting, they see ruby eyes and a seductive figure walks closer. Sorzana the strongest succubus of the city, had arrived, changing the entire flow of battle.

"Here you are, Ergillaz. I don't think I need to tell you about the situation." Sorzana speaks, trying to sound completely calm. Ergillaz could, however, easily distinguish that seemed to have been worried and still is now, frankly.

"I am aware, unfortunately. If the chimeras continue to fight alongside the orcs and wraiths. Then not much will be left of this city." Ergillaz replies, in a calm tone.

"Do you have a plan?"

"Not yet." Ergillaz walks towards the chimera of chimeras.

"I have a proposition for you, Volathriis. Would you care to listen?" Ergillaz's says in a polite and controlled tone, grabbing the attention who can hear him.
