Chapter 72 - Accidental Misdirection

Chi of Decidit's blood quantity increased by 467%.

Sparking into the battle, a humongous armored rat with the resilience of a star's core is confused by the two floating entities above. Menacingly, the calm blood bender used her rippling blue and red artifact to cast the very same sun as the one on the beast's back—until the other entity slapped the caster with a metal gauntlet.

"You fool! You want to kill us all!?!"

You as that particular blood bender feels the stinging slap of that metal gauntlet. A tear of unfairness falls down from your eyes despite the blunder of your calculations of two colliding suns that might actually kill everyone in the ruins. So you disperse your spell and conjure a searing middle finger the size of an elephant composed of your Chi of Decidit.

Trying to turn all of that anger you have into something useful for the mission, you hurl the middle finger down upon the massive calamity. "At least unequip your gauntlet first! That slap hurts like heeeeellllll—"

The mole rat casually chomps down the middle finger. A rather surprised look is shown by you and Lues, but nonetheless, the hunt continues.

The sign of hatred then dissolves into contagious liquid, stretching like a web into every inch of Yaksa Raja and begins to infects the boiling beast's blood. With the help of insurmountable elemental essences, you take over all the blood to prevent the Calamity from circulating its energy. Your Chi of Decidit gains a new trait.

'Boiling Blessing From The Sun' Chi of Decidit's trait acquired.

Opposite of the newfound trait you absorbed, you harness all of your artifact's liquid to spike down the temperature of the beast from within. Although you couldn't freeze the beast completely due to the persistence heat from the literal sun minding its own business on the Calamity's back. Not to mention wasting your mana to fuel the thermal isolation will take a tremendous toll on your mana depository.

Because of the sudden drop of temperature, the beast tries to dig into the earth once again.

"Oh no you don't!" Lues dashes in after taking a chunk of your mana, coating her conductor gauntlets with two pairs of giant crimson arms with big chains on each, spiraling into her shoulder.

You form more spears with your artifact to pin the rat's limbs in its place. With no concept of pain, the beast tears off the limbs as it wiggles furiously like a deranged worm before Lues uppercuts the gigantic beast into the air above the hole made by the Calamity.

A visible wave of energy is accumulating from the small sun into the beast's body, the limbs begin to regenerate until you force open a giant gap using the part from Chi of Decidit residing within.

You immediately lower the temperature more on the edges of the gaping wound, to prevent the regeneration and use the gap to inject more of your liquid artifact into the beast. With enough blood, you single handedly bloat the monstrosity from the inside as Lues leap high for another strike.

In the air, the crimson arms transition to two pairs of huge chain-sword whips. Rotating to gain momentum, Lues launches herself while spinning with the crimson blades cutting everything on the 40 meters area indiscriminately. Ruins, sands, grounds, all have been diced except you. So considerate.

Guts, hardened skin, muscle tissues, and a huge amount of hot and cold liquid of your artifact. All are being flung in every direction possible, one of the organs lands on Blast's gas mask far away from your location, he only stands still with no reaction whatsoever. The firework is disgusting, especially on how the pieces have smashed themselves into your front from head to toe.

'I need to tell Lues what's a half-assed consideration later on.'

You notice that with every slash, the crimson devil inflicts the beast with more of your virus vessels, hinting you something.

As if the time starts to slow down—in one second, the fragments of the beast decelerate and freeze in the air. The sun shifts its color into red as the chopped pieces begin to rush to the sun.

Taking the initiation, you reconfigure all of the virus vessels into a beacon for your Chi of Decidit. Not a second has passed yet the artifact already rushes to coat every fragment possible. Yes, even the one that lands on your coworker's face.

The beast can't regenerate if every of its pieces are blocked from each other. The sun is still dangerous nonetheless, you're wondering if your artifact can absorb it if you pour enough elemental essence—but that will kill the beast, the goal is to capture, not annihilate, despite your operator class.

To reduce the mass of the Calamity, you disintegrate half of the disconnected fragments with melting heat using the Chi of Decidit's new trait, it seems like you can increase the temperature to scalding magma with enough mana. Unlocking the rest fragments from your artifact, the beast comes out two times smaller than its first appearance.

While you collect all of your artifact's liquid, Lues appear beside you with a rather pondering look. "Ohoho, the smaller it becomes the cuter it is."

"Don't tell me, you want to keep it as a pet?" you reply with a concerned expression.

She throws her gaze away from you. "No…"

You then throw a harsh truth right off the bat, "You're so readable—but unlike Goyang, that is a Calamity, we can't keep it."

"Aww."

'Soon enough, Lues, soon enough.' You subconsciously gaze at the Chi of Decidit. 'Taming them won't be impossible.'

Yaksa Raja begins to accumulate more energy from the sun as the ball of searing heat shrinks into the size of a basketball. But unlike the magma ball, the beast has retained its size.

"Now it's wreaking havoc, and it's rushing to the crater, shouldn't we try to stop it?" asks the disappointed devil.

"OF COURSE WE SHOULD!"

Destroying every apartment ruin on its path, the Calamity rams through the debris and rubble as if they were mere stone. Desperate to search for more source of energy, the alluring malignant energy is leading the beast into the crater where the artifact extraction was taking place. It's still far away from its destination and it doesn't have much energy left to take from its sun, but your mana is getting thinner each time you or Lues tries to do shiny performance tricks, as your partner lives off your mana, so ending it faster should be beneficial for you.

Both of you fly to chase down the fleeing Calamity. Ratatoskr should have already extracted the artifact by now, but the thought of Yaksa Raja reaching the crater and obstructing the mission is scary enough to boost your flying speed faster.

'Shit, Ratatoskr will definitely kick us out of the squad like this!'
