Chapter 7 - The Forgotten Beach

It was dark, so dark, I couldn't see anything, but I could smell something salty, and I heard the roars and crashes of waves. Even though I couldn't see, I felt as if I knew exactly where I was, and that I had been there before. I walked forward for a while, not really sure where I was going. I started to see a bright light up ahead so I started towards it, speed walking a bit. Once I got to it I touched it and then a bright flash happened, so bright that it blinded me for a second. When I could see again I was standing on a beach.

I suddenly had a realization that this was one of those dreams again. Something was different this time around, I had free reign of what I did. Every other time I was just watching it play out but this time I was actually there. I wasn't sure how to wake myself up so I just wandered around for a while to kill some time. This beach was extremely liminal, almost enough to creep me out. It felt as if it had no beginning or end, it was just infinite nothingness but sand and water, along with a few palm trees.

I walked up toward the shoreline to get a better look, and just as I figured, there was nothing for miles. I stuck my hand in the water and to my surprise, it was pretty warm, then for some reason, I decided to try it. I don't know what I was expecting. It just tasted like salt and I spit it out. I was getting pretty bored so I just walked further for a good while. I started thinking of the worst like what if I was going to be trapped in here for eternity but that was just me being stupid, I know something like that can't happen. I suddenly realized a sign a bit farther up so I made my way towards it.

Once I got up to the sign I saw that there was some writing on it. In big letters, it said "Welcome To The Forgotten Beach" and below it, there was a list of rules. They all sounded pretty normal like "don't swim after dark" and "only swim while a lifeguard is on duty" however one thing stuck out to me. It said "Don't forget the beach" I found that pretty ironic seeing as it literally contradicted the name of the beach so I chuckled.

"That is pretty funny isn't it," a voice said from behind me. I knew that voice, I wish I hadn't but I did. At that moment I was horrified. I knew if I turned around I knew what, no, who I would see standing there. I turned around anyway, and then I woke up, but even if it was for a split second I saw Eve standing there, her white hair blowing in the wind, her smiling face and glistening eyes, that one second was burned in my memory, and would be for eternity.

I wasn't sure how exactly I felt after that dream. I kept telling myself that it was nothing but deep down even though I knew that I was still so sad. I must have been out for at least an hour because it was well past sunset when I woke up. When I was getting up I realized my bag was dripping, I forgot I bought some ice cream for myself and it had melted. "Just my luck," I mumbled to myself, aggravated. I drudged back home and sorted out what was and wasn't ruined in my bag. I wasn't tired in the slightest because of that nap so I just watched some mindless TV show for a while, until about midnight before taking a shower and going to bed.
