Chapter 356 - CH123 (353), Happy Surprise

Mr. Cameron went ahead and sat down on his office chair before smiling at me.

"Congratulations on your internship at Oak's Laboratory. That's something many young aspiring researchers dream about," he congratulated me before he mumbled something that I had a hard time hearing even with my enhanced hearing.

I think I heard the words grand-uncle, pass, and missed chance, but since he did not seem to plan to mention whatever that was about to me, I did not ask him what he was mumbling.

"Before you go home, let me share some news with you. I've finished the talks with the last few habitats and the dates for your visit have been determined," Mr. Cameron declared after he finished his mumbling.

"That's great," I chimed in and he nodded along before he continued.

"Your first appointment is on Mewday at the Mienfoo habitat. The second one is on Palkiday at the Buneary habitat and the final one is on Kyoday at the Pancham habitat.

I made sure that there is a day between each appointment so that you can have a day to introduce and get to know each Pokemon a bit before a new one joins," he announced and I thanked him for his consideration.

"Alright, now that you know the dates it's time for you to hurry home. It's already half past six and I'm sure your parents are waiting for you," he said while making a shooing motion.

"Thank you for everything, and have a good evening, Sir," I returned before I left his office and the academy.

It had been some time since I flew around so I decided to do so right now. To make it more interesting I decided to test my flight speed, but since I did not want my clothes to get dirty or wrinkly, or Mew-forbid anything to happen to the incubator in my arms, I made sure to reinforce and shield them as well as myself before I levitated into the air.

It took me a bit more than 3 minutes to arrive home which translated to my flight speed being around 160 kph. That was slightly slower than my current regular maximum speed and a tad slower than a third of my aura-boosted maximum speed.

I had only used my telekinetic abilities to fly this time around, so if I added a shield around my body with a cone-shaped front, I could probably raise that by half or so, which would be above my regular top running speed.

Still, even if I could run faster than I could fly, not to mention teleportation, nothing beat the feeling of being able to fly through one's own capability. Flying was humanity's dream/a man's romance after all.

Anyway, after landing in front of our house entrance, I took a look at the incubator that I had been forced to carry along for showcase sake since the Silph.Co-bags were not suitable for eggs or any living beings for that matter, and I was not planning to blatantly show off Utopia regardless of anything that happened today.

Having to carry around eggs/incubators like this was not convenient at all, not to mention riskier, so I actually began considering if I should work on creating a storage device specifically for eggs and incubators.

I had at least the basics of the necessary knowledge base for such a project thanks to my ball-crafting mastery, so it was not impossible for me to actually produce a working model if I worked on it for a few years, but I had Utopia so outside of showcase situations such as this one, I did not need an egg bag.

Maybe I could recommend the subject to someone else. I honestly could not believe that something like that had not been invented yet, but maybe mobile egg storage had not been interesting/lucrative enough to arouse major interest.

Nevertheless, I ended up shelving the idea as one of my many possible future projects, before I moved the incubator in my arms so that I could free one of them. Once my right arm was free, I pulled out my key and opened the door.

While stepping inside, the thought that I could have used my telekinesis to do the same came up, but I shrugged it off. No need to cry over spilled milk.

The thought that I could have also simply levitated the incubator also came up but got similarly shrugged off. I wanted to keep body contact with the egg/incubator since I was willfully radiating my aura so that the egg/Charmander could feel and get used to my life signature.

That was not a problem inside the nesting area of Utopia since my lovely space did that automatically, but right now I had to do it myself. Anyway, mom and dad seemed to have heard me entering since they were coming towards me when I stepped into the living room.

"Welcome home," they said in synch before their attention was taken by the egg in my arms.

"Congratulations on getting yourself a Charmander," they once again said in synch, and I had to laugh when they looked at each other in surprise at having said the same thing at the same time.

"Is that a couple thing?" I jokingly asked them which made them laugh as well.

"Yes, only the closest ones can do it," dad returned mirthfully while taking mom's hand into his own, passively feeding me sugar.

"How about you bring the incubator to your room before coming back down? You can hardly eat dinner with it in your arms like that," mom requested while throwing dad a happy look.

I briefly considered if I should leave these sugar dispensers alone for a bit, or if I should stick to my previous plan.

"Alright, I'll be back down in a moment," I told them after deciding to leave the egg inside Utopia since it could emit my signature just as well as I could. I was back home so the showcase was over anyway.

I swiftly turned around and made my way to my room. Once I locked the door behind me, I entered Utopia and appeared inside my place. Utopia did its thing and began analyzing the egg, and since it was an egg the only thing it ended up doing was generating a habitat with a nesting area.

I made sure that the habitat was squeezed beside Osiris/Marowak's habitat for obvious reasons before heading to the new place so that I could leave the egg inside the nesting spot.

When I made it there, I saw Osiris waiting for me in front of the cave entrance that contained the nesting ground. The appearance of a new habitat had no doubt roused his curiosity which was why he came over. I saw that his gaze was directly drawn to the egg in my arms, so I spoke up.

"This is your new little brother," I announced. "You're going to help me take care of him," I declared and he looked equal parts happy and uneasy.

I could feel his happiness at having a new family member and being partly responsible for raising him, but he was also worried that he would do something wrong and hurt the egg/youngling. I went up to him and pat his head.

"Don't worry, I'll be with you and we'll make sure you know what you're doing," I assured him and he nodded happily.

After that, I made my way into the nesting ground and placed the egg into the designated spot after taking it out of the incubator. I stored the incubator somewhere close to the egg and left the cave after I was sure that everything was okay.

Osiris was waiting for me at the entrance since no one beside me could enter the nesting grounds if they were not the parents of the egg.

"Everything is alright," I said while patting his head. "You can go back to your place. I'll call you over whenever I want you to help take care of the egg," I told him and he left after acknowledging his future duty.

I looked at his back for a moment before I left as well. After I reappeared inside my room I went downstairs and joined my parents who were waiting for me at the dinner table.

As usual, we began talking while enjoying our dinner, and I told them about my day. When I came to the part where I met Professor Oak and accepted his invitation, they actually clapped and congratulated me.

Not only that, mom stopped eating, stood up, and came up to me to pull me into a hug. Dad joined her, turning it into a family hug. We stopped a few moments later since we did not want the food to get too cold, but the excitement mom and dad were feeling at the news was still palpable.

They kept praising me during the rest of the dinner, happy that the brilliance of their beloved son was so outstanding that even Professor Oak personally came to him to extend an invitation.

Another reason for their happiness was the relief of knowing that no one would dare to mess with me now that I was part of Professor Oak's main lab. Aura was such a nice thing since it could turn nearly everyone into a great detective that could read more into a conversation than what was said.

Anyway, after dinner, my parents decided to celebrate the fact that I was joining Oak's Lab, but I managed to have them agree to shelve that until I had received the document/contract, signed it, and received confirmation that the lab had received the signed document.

After all, it would only make sense to celebrate the occasion after everything was in order and on paper. Had I not stopped them they would have probably started to call everyone, but thankfully I did.

I also asked them to keep the news to themselves until everything was done, and I was going to do the same. The group chat/My friends would have to wait for a bit before I shared the good news with them.

Still, even after they agreed to my request, my parents insisted that we went out for a mini celebration among ourselves, so we went to the cinema.

I did some good old piracy while watching the movie by passing on the movie and sound to Utopia so that everyone else could enjoy the impromptu cinema evening as well.

I got to eat popcorn and they had their snacks, so everyone was happy. The movie had been a bit long, so by the time we were back home, it was nearly midnight, and I directly went to sleep after wishing my parents goodnight.

The next morning I spent my time after breakfast split between spending time with the newbies/youngsters and supervising the training as well as spending time with the rest.

Everyone was doing a good job, and some of them were close to a breakthrough or evolution, which raised their motivation by quite a bit. Tyson/Machamp's evolution had fired them up, especially Tatsumaki/Kadabra who was working on the last move she had to master for her evolution.

It was a few hours after lunch that I received some extremely good news. Stan/Gyarados finally raised his last parameters to SSS, officially completing his limit breaking, which meant that he could at last break through to the gold stage.

Everyone became excited when I spread the news that Stan would be breaking through to the gold stage and we all gathered at Stan's habitat/lake. Once everyone was present and I had given Stan some head pats for good luck, I gave him the go-ahead and he initiated his breakthrough.

When a few moments later more energy from the environment got absorbed by Stan and he began to light up a bit, I, as well as everyone else, at least among the non-newbies, knew that Stan had managed to trigger something extra during his evolution, so everyone broke out in excited chatter, curious what he had unlocked.
