Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Through the third story window of a well-known home, three plump men sat around a table. The laughter from the intoxicated fools echoed through the dimly lit neighborhood, causing a rodent to pause. It's ears twitch towards the lit up window, nose sniffing. The rats frozen body relax as it realize it had not yet been seen and soon continued onward toward the next unwelcoming ditch.

From the rooftop of a neighboring estate, a hooded figure sighed loudly. She pulled the hood of her jacket off and slouched against the peeling roof.

"If you continue acting as uninterested as you do now, I might as well bring Kaiser. Even that fool would be more helpful than you." The voice was nothing more than a whisper, but was sharp as a dagger.

The girl flinched at the words, knowing that she had been caught slacking, "I didn't sign up to watch fat, ugly men drink, I signed up to ki-"

"Enough, " The body of the voice stood up silently, letting the street light brighten their face, "I don't want to hear anymore complaint. You're the one who 'wanted more experience', not me, no you will do you're best to keep your thoughts to yourself."

"Come on, Eclipse, it's freezing. I can even see my breath, look" The girl let out a long sigh, allowing the mist to form and float away into the nothingness of the dark. "Can we just go back to the mansion already?"

"Why don't you go in ahead, Briar. I'll bring the thief next time." Eclipse rolled her neck in annoyance and crouched on the edge of the roof again, her face swallowed my shadow.

Briar, who was still leaning against the roof, let out a defeated groan and focused her attention back on the men in the window.

They cackled with drunken laughter, the plumpest one spilling his drink on the expensive carpet that layered the floor, "Them kids are gonna make us rich!" His loud boasts bounced through the window and into Eclipses ear.

She stiffened at the slurred words, not sure if she had heard correctly, but her train of thought was cut short by a sharp bark from the second man, "You know the boss wants us to say 'Packages' Franklin, you never know who might be listening..." His voice dropped low and all three of the men went quiet, looking to see if anyone was near. The moment of silence was soon ended by the spit of laughter again.

"Oh hush, nobodies here, it's the middle of the night, Herbert." The third man chuckled and took a swing of alcohol directly out of the bottle, earning himself some grunts of amused complaint. "Who would be out in the streets at this time of night?"

Eclipse watched as the second man, Herbert, looked at the clock hanging on the wall and then reached to grab his pocket watch. He rolled his neck and let out a pleased sigh, "It's about time I get home to the wife, can't keep her waiting, if you know what I mean." He winked and the trio laughed, nodding to each other. Herbert stood up and stretched and downed the rest of the bitter liquid in his glass before bidding farewell.

The third man stood as well and wished the first man a pleasant evening, soon following the second man down to the carriages that waited in the courtyard. The first man stayed exactly where he was, grabbing a new bottle and breaking the seal. He drank slowly, and even from a distance, Eclipse could see the twinkle of curiosity in his eyes.

The black haired woman tilted her head slightly, wondering why he looked as he did. Her eyes left him there as they followed the other two men who were stumbling to get into the carriages. Herbert, who looked less intoxicated, made one last look at the lit up house before closing the swinging door and signalled the carrier to make his way home.

Eclipse kicked the other girl lightly against the foot and made a small chirp-like whistle. Briar smiled, "Time to hunt. "
