Chapter 9 - brute Intelligence

Cycle then fell down holding his stomach, laughing in unison with the others 'hes that guy's who's ass your always beating.'

Jaren watched on as Gooba tried to run away, but there was always a bigger goblin ready to stop him from going forward. He got ganged up on and beaten by multiple goblin's. They tried to spit on him but that is where Jaren stepped in, giving all the bullies a smack to the face. 'Stop with what your doing' he said, making the goblins run away.

'Are you alright... Gooba?' He held his hand down so he could pull up the bloodied victim. Gooba grasped Jaren his hand, surprised that he didn't come to help the bullies, scared that that would change. 'Thank you boss.' he made a quick bow and limped away, disappeared in his hut.

Leaving Jaren in the dust, confused the boss followed him and took a peek to what Gooba fled in. Just like everyone his hut was big enough to fit three goblins in it. Gooba's back was facing the entrance as he sat crosslegged, you couldn't really see it but it looked like he was working on something.

Both of his elbows poking out from his sides, moving as if he was tinkering, it was that or the Goblins already started j*cking off.

When he took a step inside all was revealed. He saw a wooden bow on the side of the hut, it's string of sinew -the tendon of sprinters or in real life tendon of deer - the arrows where beside the bow all set in a quiver. The spears he made where mostly the same except his had a stone end.

Jaren tried making stone spears but he was no engineer, everytime he made one it was more practical to use a wooden one as the stone end of his spears would fall of.

'Did you make this?' Jaren asked. With a jolt Gooba turned around, letting out a high pitched scream.

'y-y-yes sir,' he responded, he jumped at Jaren's feet, grabbing his ankles 'please don't break them! I beg you'

Jaren looking at the weapons, with his eyes twinkling asked how he did.

But Gooba didn't hear it, his begging converting into cries. 'This will be useful to all of us, I swear!'

Jaren picked up Gooba by the shoulder, lifting his feet from the ground and shook him, making his head bobble. Back on the floor dazed gooba wobbled backwards 'how did you do all this, when did you do all this!?' Jaren demanded.

Still scared Gooba stood over his items, his arms wide like an protective cloak. 'i made them, from the leftovers I get' he then further explained how he made sinew, how from that he made a bow, how he attached a sharpened rock to an stick. The longer he talked about it the more exited he became, his scared trembling voice turning high pitched.

Later that evening Jaren even hunted a sprinter so Gooba could explain in detail and show him.

'can you help me prepare some traps for Tomorrow? With your skills it should be much easier.' Jaren asked. Gooba hesitated, seeing this Jaren continued 'Do you still want to be a squad leader, then all of you can make our weapons.' that got a reaction out of the scrawny goblin.

'depending on how your traps work you get to participate tomorrow and get another chance'

-----------------

Thinking back on how he got to stand he Gooba jumped into the crowd and struck a power pose 'Wh-who do I get to fight boss?' he had an bow on his back, and the quivers were tied to his waist, a bunch of sinew on his shoulder rolled up, a knife in his hand. The others stood in awe for not only did they see never see that kind of equipment, the scrawny goblin also never looked so big.

Pipin watched in confusion as he was sure he saw this goblin lose on the first day, laughed at him as he ran of, but he kept quit.

Jaren threw a Shaka at him, and another one at Boko 'both of you, show me what you got' he calmly said. Gooba looked at the big hunk of meat that was standing on the other side and gulped, Boko was looking back and grinned.

Gooba shriveled up again and turned at the arena, murmuring to himself 'fine then,' he said so soft that no one heard him 'I am going to stand at the left side' he said running down to the first.

When both where on either side ,Gooba stood on top a moss covered, sharp boulder, massive enough to stand beside the woods. Immidiately seeing Boko was heading to his direction, like an hidden beast the bushes and trees beneath him made a rustling noise, but Boko wasn't trying to hide his assault, he hit the trees, and yelled out gooba's name, which made the birds fly away.

Gooba winded up his bow and waited for boko's next signal. It was at that moment he realized that he had barely used his inventions. Yes, he would practice on targets, far away from where anyone could reach him, but those where made of grass. He would stand 35 meters away(114 feet) and even then he would hit his shot 1/5 times.

The scrawny goblin shot his shot the arrow quickly taking a nose dive and plunging in to the ground, taking with it Gooba's confidence.

Boko was was 105 meters (342 feet) away, at the pace he was going he would arrive in three minutes. Reassuring himself Gooba took his time to set things up descending back to the ground.

When the giant was close by the boulder arrows immidiately rained down at him, all of them missing. One after another they dismis him as a target, Boko coming to the realization that his opponent was les of a match than he thought.

When he finally saw his opponent face to face he let out a last roar as a show of dominance. The missing arrows stopped a while ago, but now seeing how the little man froze up, there was not going to be any kind of resistance.

He climbed a top of the boulder and instead saw a grass dummy, with the blood currently flowing in his face, he shouted with anger 'Little man, come face me instead of running, now!'

'now you come here' Gooba responded, on the ground in between two trees, his face sweaty, and hiding something behind his back.

Exited Boko jumped down, the sound of his body hitting the ground sounded like a cannon, and quickly begun his persuit of the smaller sibling.

Gooba ran first, moving with strange side steps, for no reason Boko thought. That's when he noticed the rope he had in his palms, with a fast jank, three arrows Boko his left bicep.

He didn't notice, too obsessed with getting his prey. Gooba looked behind him expecting an hurting beast, but the giant was relentless, something he admirered, as he would faint from a flesh wound. Gooba had one ace up his sleeve, on that he saw since looking around when he first descendent down.

Above a normal patch of dirt a rope lied, he jumped, grabbed and swung as far as the rope allowed, cutting it with his knife when he landed.

He looked back as Boko eventually slowed down, and sunk into the ground, 'quicksand, a surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one' he thought.

He left his hunter in the shadows and went to his side of the arena, were his Shaka was neatly placed on the ground.

After he bashed it everyone arrived within minutes, as the sweet smell spread through the whole forest, the chemical sugar overtaking his senses. They would find Gooba eating the Shaka stuffing his mouth. Jaren found Boko and got him out of his problems.

They waited an hour until the smell diminished.

Back at the camp after getting gangu smeared on her arms, Eli sought Bleux.

The injured had all waken up, and enjoying themselves as the previously did, playing tag, wrestling with eachother. Bleux was in the middle, his darkened skin and extra height made him stand out. As if he was a big bro, 6 other goblins tried to get him to fall in a wrestling match, he was undefeated, lightly throwing his adversary's to the ground.

When he noticed Eli, he introduced her to Salut, the goblin that they found a few days ago, he was there for three days but could already talk enough to get across where he was from.

Like they expected he was from the others, that was it. he couldn't further articulate the rest

they went to the edge of the camp. He asked her how it went, what happened to her arms, which she all explained. Then she asked him why he doesn't come to watch, and with a face asif to say :'i hate to admit it but...' he said that he couldn't bare to watch them almost kill eachother.

'Especially after those two dead goblins, It feels like Jaren is pushing you to hard. I understand why but it doesn't feel right.' he said, while guiding het to the graves of the goblins. Which was nothing more than a hole in the ground covered on dirt. 'it just feels right if they are able to rest above under us:

Eli answered with a confused nod
