Folklores had been passed down from generation after another through bedtime stories. Monsters had been introduced to us the moment we started getting naughty. It was a way for the elders to control the curiosity of the young not to wander about at night.
For years I was scared about the shokoy that would eat my guts if I wandered near the river at night or near sunset. Or being careful not to get too close to the cursed shore on one of Sta. Magfdalena's beaches. And who would forget the story of the Sirena who would always claim a young man on a yearly basis in Bacon beach. Those stories mde my childhood memorable. Not to mention, they scared the shit out of me.
