Nothing much. What do you wanna know?" I asked her. She smiled and said, "Nothing." She sipped on her drink while looking at me with some odd look. Like one eyebrow of hers was raised.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked her.
"Do you like Aaron?" She asked.
"Why do you ask?" I asked her back trying to avoid answering her question.
"Why do you answer my question with a question? I need an answer." She said with a smirk on her face.
"I just want to know why you ask and I'll give you the answer right after you answer my question." I told her. She smiled at me like as if she had caught me red handed committing a crime.
"Fine, I ask because you and Aaron are really close." She answered still having the smile on her face.
"Alright then. Yes, I like him as a friend and nothing more." I answered her.
"Do you think he feels the same way?" She asked, making me cough. Like seriously, I wasn't expecting her to ask such a question.
"What?" I asked like as if I hadn't heard her. Right now, I need someone or something to help me change the topic
"Don't act like as if you didn't hear me, Rita. C'mon, it's just a simple question that requires a yes or a no." She said urging me to answer her. Luckily, Aaron came back. I hadn't noticed that the song was playing because of the question I was asked.
"Hey, you really do like that song." Hannah said to Aaron who as looking at me.
"Yeah, maybe I do." He said.
"Actually, I asked him to play it one more time." I said.
" I love the song." I added, making Hannah smile.
" Alright I'll leave the two of you to yourselves." She said and walked away.
"Thank you." I said to Aaron when Hannah had left.
" No need to thank me. You deserve the best." He said and I smiled.
I looked around the entire place and I actually felt good, knowing that there were people who cared for me.
"There you are." I heard Henry say. I turned to look at him.
" You know what Rita. I'm starting to think that you never liked mom at all. You seriously can not be hanging out with a drug addict during your late mother's burial. Just so you know, we waited for 15 minutes so that you could come and say a eulogy for mom but this is where you are - having fun with lunatics." Henry yelled. I swallowed hard in an attempt to make my tears disappear.
" You watch your words, Henry." I said and ran out.
" This is all your fault. You better fix everything." I heard Henry say. I supposed he was telling Aaron. I shook my head in disbelief. I needed somewhere I could be alone so I ran to school, avoiding any route where I could be seen by people at the church.
When I reached the school gate, the school guard stood and he had a confused look plastered on his face.
"What are you doing here? School is closed for the day." He told me but I remained quiet.
" Whatever you need, I cannot help you." He said
"I need to come in. You can help me with that." I said with a smile plastered on my face. I hoped I didn't look weary.
" I'm sorry. I cannot let you in." He said.
" Please, I won't do anything stupid. I promise. Noone will notice I was ever here. I just need a place to calm myself. If it pleases you, you can walk with me." I begged.
He took a deep breath and opened the gate.
" You can come in." He said and I entered. I immediately walked towards the hallway and reached the door to the garden where Aaron had taken me. I entered, sat on the grass and started crying. I couldn't believe what Henry had just said and done. I cried until my eyes hurt.
I woke up when I felt myself being carried. I immediately struggled to put myself down but the more I tried, the more the person held on tight.
"Put me down or else I'll scream." I threatened but the person only chuckled
"What were you doing at school on this day?" The voice I heard was too familiar to be an unknown person to me.
" Okay, this is not a joke. Whoever your are you better put me down." I said with a more serious tone. I felt myself be lowered. I stood and what I saw shocked all reactions out of me. What the hell was Brandon doing at school?
" Brandon?" I said
"Hi." He said. I shook my head.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him
"You know, I could also ask you the same question." He said
What is going on?
"Why were you carrying me?" I asked him.
"Was I supposed to leave you in there?" He said with a confused look.
I kept my mouth shut and stared at him he looked like he was from crying.
