Chapter 4 - Pretense

Li Na was flung onto a bed, with enough force to bring the blindfold down from her eyes to her neck. She immediately turned around and saw the man already bearing down on her.

"Wait, stop-please-," Her captor ignored her cries and proceeded to rip the side of her dress so that the side her left leg was fully exposed, using his leg to press down on her two legs that were feebly trying to kick him away.

She watched in fright as he removed his dark garments, revealing a lithe but powerful and muscled upper torso. Li Na's chains around her thin wrists clinked together rapidly underneath her, her flesh tearing as she vainly tried to move away and free herself.

To her despair, because she was left in the water cell for so long, she only managed to moved an inch before collapsing again in exhaustion. Panic clouded her rationality.

"Please, I don't want to do this-"

Wordlessly, he then flung a large blanket over their bodies and bent down towards her neck.

Li Na closed her eyes tightly, tears running down the sides of her face. "Song." she whispered, before she felt the distance between her and the man close quickly.

A hot breath grazed the skin on her neck, but that was the closest contact she felt from the man. The bed creaked as the man moved his body up and down on top of her as if he was doing a form of pushups, moving in a way so that it looked from a distance like he was mating with her.

Slowly, Li Na's eyes opened.

Her breath hitched as she stared at the man above her with shock.

The captivatingly handsome face above her looked exactly like her crush in her past life, except the color of his eyes was an emerald hue containing piercing, glowing flecks of lime green, and his originally stubby, brown hair turned midnight black. His hair was longer than before, smoothly slicked back besides a few strands in the front that touched her left cheek whenever he lowered himself down.

Although her blind date in her past life looked somewhat similar to Song, this man definitely topped that similarity a hundredfold more.

"Son-"

The man's hand covered her opened lips.

"Quiet," he said in a low tone, "they are watching us." Perspiration formed on his forehead as he continued with his rhythmic movements without touching her and stared at the pillow laying under her in concentration.

Li Na obediently closed her mouth, and the man subsequently removed his hand, placing it beside her head. The only noises that remained were the squeaks of the bed, their breaths and the man's motions.

She felt heat creeping up onto her face from the sounds and from the fact that there was a man above her that looked like her lost love pretending to make love with her. At that moment, She felt incredibly grateful for the darkness of the room that was only lit by a single candle.

Slowly turning her head and looking over the blanket, Li Na noticed two shadows of human figures behind the thin curtains. She watched them leave after they watched her possessor steadily perform his moves on repeat.

The man above her only stopped his movements after they had gone for a while.

He shifted away to sit at the edge of the bed, drinking a glass of water with an unreadable expression in his eyes.

Li Na gazed at the man, her heart in her throat.

Something in her heart finally came loose. She wanted to know. Breaking the silence with a trembling voice, she said in a whisper, "Song, is that you?"

The man's hand that held the cup paused midair. But that was all but a second before he turned to gaze at her with his piercing green eyes. "My full name is Valerius Arlys Rainilda. I am not this Song that you speak of."

Li Na's heart dropped back down again. "Oh." Although, she didn't believe a word he said.

"What is your purpose?" Li Na said softly.

"You don't need to know my purpose," Valerius replied, "just know that in this place, I am the only one whom you can rely on."

His steady gaze into her eyes were unreadable; she could not tell what the other was thinking as he spoke.

Not giving her a chance to respond, he covered her with the blanket. "Sleep. You'll need it."

Li Na wanted to protest. She had so many questions running through her brain and she just had transmigrated to an unfamiliar world, landing in a weak body trapped in a den of wolves. And meeting him... The last thing she wanted to do was sleep.

But her body seemed to disagree with her. Over the dull, throbbing pain resonating throughout her body, as well as the hundreds of needles she felt pricking the places where she bled, a large wave of fatigue poured into her.

Darkness entered her vision as she let her eyes close.
