I pulled on a clean pants before making my way towards the kitchen, no one was inside. I strode towards the hall. Aleecia was on the couch playing cards with herself.
"Good morning" I greeted and she glanced up at me twice before snorting contemptuously.
"You didn't" She managed in disbelief
"Didn't what?" she pointed to Ray's t-shirt amusedly and I forced a smile, sitting on the opposite end of the table.
I leaned forward "Did you two ever?" I asked, unnecessary questions popping up in my mind. It felt kind of weird asking but I was a bold girl, who decided not to think about this bold thing.
"No. Ray's like a brother" she grimaced and I nodded
"Did something happen?" I quizzed innocently. I mean, guys with junk like that usually flaunt it everywhere, they are usually cocky and are major assholes//jerks. Well, on second thought- Ray was an asshole.
"Not my story to tell" she returned to her cards and I bobbed my head, disappointedly.
"What happened to Caleb? How did you find me?"
She skimmed me over, a bit irritated. She sighed, placing the cards unto the transparent glass table. "Caleb is being processed, he will be sent to a prison in Canada by tomorrow."
He's not already gone!?
"After Caleb took you, some guard on the beach found us and carried us to the village health care center"
There was a village health center?
"We spent the night there. By the time we got out Caleb had already covered his tracks. At first we thought he was sent here to kill you"
"Sent to kill me?" I asked intently
"These are things you needed to hear last night" she forced a smile. "I thought you'd be dead but Ray kept on looking. Then he found you passed out in the handmade cottage deep in the woods. Apparently Caleb tried resuscitating you and was successful. Later that day, Caleb came back to check on you, instead he found Ray's fist. Turns out Caleb was just some creepy stalker"
I had so many questions. I didn't even know where to begin.
"Mal on the other hand…" she continued
"Mal?" I never told anyone about Mal.
"Yea, I kinda implied Ray would find out who tried to murder you"
"She didn't try to murder me. I fell, like I said" I insisted and she smiled warmly. I mean sure Mal had a knife and yes I ran into the bathroom and closed the door because she seemed bent on stabbing me to death but we talked, she left and I cried until I passed out.
"She's the one that set your house on fire"
"I killed her mother" I reminded. I deserved to be burnt alive. I deserved whatever came my way. I deserved to die.
"Wrong. Whosoever wanted you dead, killed your mother"
I scoffed and she sighed, the room becoming awfully silent.
"What happened to my biological mother?"
"Our mother's fine"
I froze. Did she just say 'our'?
"Uh."
"Yea, Mia. I am your half-sister. Aleecia Dullard. Don't you see the resemblance?" She paused, an evil smile slipping across her lips. "Also you're older sister"
"That's impossible."
"Actually, no it isn't. You're dad met my mother a year after I was born and after she was framed for fraud, she moved here and created this island. Suspecting that I was in danger she assigned me a Shadow. Ray's brother, Michael" she spoke her voice falling below its normal pitch.
Ray cleared his throat and I fidgeted at the sudden sight of him.
"I think that's enough for now" He smiled "Let's get something to eat" he offered.
"How about some pasta?"
I nodded, faking a smile. There were so many things I didn't know. I was completely obviously to everything that was currently happening in my life. I felt so helpless and lost. To think, all this time Aleecia was my sister. I was always kept in the dark and told only the things Ray wanted to tell me. I mean, what else could he be hiding? Maybe he's my long lost brother. I grimaced. That was some sick ass thinking.
**
"So, who flaked first?" Aleecia asked innocently and I choked, knowing exactly what she meant. Ray laughed a full laugh and I struggled to stop coughing.
He handed me his glass of water and I drank, pretending I didn't hear a thing.
"Like a girl" He mumbled, almost too low for me to hear but I did.
I snickered "Like a scared little cat" I mumbled back in the same hushed tone, shoving a fork twirl of black pasta in my mouth. I didn't even like cats. They scared the hell out of me but it was only fitting.
He huffed, spinning my chair to face him and I raised my eyebrows as a means of intimidation
"You can't handle…"
"You're just scared Ray. Admit it" I challenged
"Scared?" He smirked with hidden intentions.
"Touching, really, but I'm still in the room" Aleecia cleared her throat and we returned to our meals. This wasn't the end. He had started a war.
**
Ray signaled that I attack him and I launched at him with a fist, stopping mid-way before sweeping his feet
He jumped back and laughed, completely unfazed "Come on. Don't tell me you fight like a girl too" he jeered and I relaxed. It was late in the evening and we were in the training room, getting in some training. Aleecia had gone to work. I on the other hand, had to stay home and train, because of such Aleecia and Ray were the only constant faces in my life at the moment.
"What are you doing?"
"I am a girl, babe" I smiled slyly unbuttoning my plaid shirt and letting it fall to the ground.
"Blossoms! Stop" he chuckled, looking away
"Does that scare you Ray?" I teased, jiggling my breast playfully.
He placed a hand over his eyes, hiding an amused smile and I used his moment of distraction to sweep his feet and pin him to the ground.
He looked up at me, a sexy smile crawling across his lips "I love this, how we are but you're playing with fire" he pointed out, releasing my grip with ease and slipping his hands around me, keeping me still and in place.
"I'm a bad girl, I deserve to be burnt"
He chuckled "You need to stop"
"Tell me when your 'scared' stops talking." I huffed trying to get up but he had me restrained.
"Sex isn't everything. There is so much more to a relationship"
"Yea, Ray, cause you're like, the most romantic guy, ever" I said sarcastically, a bit irritated.
He frowned "I can be romantic"
I muffled a cynical laugh and he scoffed, letting me loose and sitting up, practically shoving me to the ground.
"Challenge accepted"
I eyed him distastefully and he gave me his tongue before standing up
"Put some clothes on, wet rat" he chortled while walking away.
"And the most romantic guy in the world goes to Professor of the Cat foundation, Ray" I jeered.
"That's daddy to you young lady" he winked before stepping out and I huffed, hating how he always had the last say and how nothing ever seemed to unnerve him.
