Chapter 1 - Worth It

"Are you sure we should really go there?" Asked Madeline. "Why are you so sceptical about this trip?" Replied Darryl. Everyone stared at Darryl for a moment. "What? You know I paid for all of us!" Said Darryl in a worried tone. He had a reason to be worried because he was saving up for months on end, working three jobs all day long. Jake and Rosa were the ones who really only wanted to come because it would be a waste of months of hard work and a lot of money.

There were a couple days left to the trip. So, everyone got as much as work done possible before they went. Madeline loved animals. She loved them to the point that when she sees one, she ignores all visible human in the vicinity. When she was around her friends, they always had to apologise to whoever she was just talking to 5 seconds ago. Jake and Rosa were twins. But you couldn't expect the usual synchronized twin behaviour from them. Always fighting, polar opposites, basically each other's worst enemy. And then there was Darryl. The hard worker. Always motivated. You get the picture. They were the best of friends, differences aside.

The day of the trip finally arrived. Since this was a rural trip, most people were sceptical about this. The only thing they were excited about was getting a souvenir or a pool, the most generic things a person could like when they go on holiday. Finally, after arriving at the airport, they all left their luggage at the counter, got their ticket, and waited. After 45 minutes of cold, hard waiting, the flight finally arrived. They got in, everyone only coming along because otherwise Darryl would've been upset for about a week. After a long, mid-air, cosy slumber, everyone got up. After they got out of the plane, Darryl noticed that the only excitement was for everyone to reclaim their luggage as if they were pirates looking for it like it was treasure.

And another cosy slumber for the day when they took the bus to their resort, making the total count two. Something unexpected for Darryl was the fact that they loved the simplicity of the resort and the nature around it. They checked in and their only worry was if there was Wi-Fi. Of course, it being the 21st century, all of them were big webheads so they always needed their update on everyone's social life. Such a relief for them to know that Wi-Fi was, in fact, available. So that made this place a beautiful, yet was convenient for the four to relax. This resort was more of an ecotourism kind of place so that means photographers always have a keen liking for this area. A disadvantage for them was, that this place had no meat. Luckily, they didn't mind.

After they had lunch, they went out for a little bit of photography. Before anyone else could take a SINGLE photo, Madeline was all over the place taking photos of everything she saw. There was so much vegetation that a whole crew of photographers need to be called to make an article of the place. Not to mention, the place was HUGE! So much tallgrass everywhere, that if you go in, you might just get lost in the first five minutes. From above, it looked like a million tons of shiny green paint had been dropped onto the property before the resort was built. There was so many creatures waiting to be found. So much that there might've been hundreds of undiscovered species to be found on this very resort. One cool thing that they found was a bird nest sitting on a leaf! Everyone was awestruck by this sight. They were tired by evening so they all went to their respective rooms, got fresh and jumped onto their huge white bed.

They didn't know they were that worn out. When they laid down, the bed's contact Relaxed them to the point that when the sheets made contact with their face, they fell into a cosy slumber, making it the third for the day. The four of them woke up in midnight because of a bright light. They woke up, and instead of meeting up, they texted each other. After that, they met up in the halls, trying not to make noise. The time was 3:30, so they better not. They got to the doorway and found nothing. Went to the side, then saw a light. Not the brightest, but not the dimmest either. They checked the back. The light was almost blinding, not to mention the high-pitched sound that was being emitted. They blinked a few times to see clearly. What they saw was a mysterious, yet majestic creature, coated with white fur, a horn that looked like a crescent, huge white wings that were prepared for a long flight, and it had a stone on its neck, held by a necklace. Everyone stood still, awestruck, never having seen something like this. They all asked Madeline about the creature, and she responded with a shrug, then telling "This might be a mythical creature, but they don't exist as far as I'm concerned."

It spread its wings, ready to fly, steadied its legs, and flew off into the distance. Everyone was confused as ever, and headed off into their rooms. They were thinking about the sighting all night, so no one could get even an hour of sleep. When they woke up, which was at half past 12, they thought they would go out for brunch. They talked about it while eating. After eating, they went to do normal tourism stuff. All the days went on and on like that and when the day came for them to leave, they packed their bags, did the usual airport stuff and boarded the plane. All they thought about was the encounter. How the creature didn't care at all that it was being discovered, the reason it flew so fast, and the overall appearance. They got back home, knowing this had to be kept a secret because no one would believe it. Leaving the four of them knowing about the creature. One thing that could be disclosed was, that this trip was worth it!
