Chapter 4 - 4 : Mission Abandoned

Kira remembers the first time Water Divination was presented in front of her. Just like Gon, Killua, and Zushi, she was just as curious and excited when demonstrations were done beforehand.

The white-haired girl smiled at the memories while observing the boys being taught by Wing about finding out their Nen categories from another building across.

This method would be deemed risky but the Zoldycks wouldn't have hired Kira to keep an eye on Killua if she's not a professional.

'It looks like Gon is an enhancer'

It was the same overflowing water that Kira witness in the demonstration years ago from her master. She sometimes wondered how he's been doing now.

Zushi turns out to be a manipulator when the leaf on the water moves. And finally, it's Killua's turn.

'Hmmm. A Transmuter, eh?'

Kira chuckled a little when Killua turned the water sweeter. She's instantly reminded of her own water divination that resulted in frozen water.

It seems that Gon has 4 weeks time before his fight against Hisoka. It means that the boys have 4 weeks time to strengthen their nen.

Kira sighs. This means that she would have to observe Killua practicing for 4 weeks. That would be boring...

She moved away from her spot quietly and leave her target alone for now. She's starting to question this mission from Silva.

Kira is the Zoldyck family's bodyguard. The person who would protect all members of the family whenever they were on their mission if there would be a trap or any foul play from the clients.

The Zoldycks aren't stupid. They always have backup plans. And it's so happened to be Kira. She would assassinate whoever wanted them dead. In other words, Kira is her own assassination business. Whenever her service is needed, the family would hire her. Only a member of the Zoldyck family can hire her. And just like Zoldycks' business rules, she can't leave the mission until it's done.

All missions that Kira had done were nothing like this current mission. Killua had run away from him previously and Illumi, the eldest Zoldyck siblings were sent to keep an eye on him. He successfully brought him back but was once again able to leave the house due to Silva giving him his permission to travel with his friends.

'Why would he hire her if he himself allows his son to go in the first place?'

Kira was told that dangers would always revolve around Zoldycks. And that Killua being out there are prone to get attacked.

But from what she knew and saw during her time of the mission, what she had been told were true indeed. But, Killua has gotten a lot stronger and he got his friend, Gon by his side. The pair helped out each other whenever they were in trouble.

Hiring Kira is useless here!

She finds that making friends and having them along in the adventure is the best decision that Killua has ever made. Yet, his family never approves of that.

Or was it..? That by Kira's daily report to Silva every day at 10 am, the Zoldycks were able to track down Killua's movement?

Kira suddenly felt disgusted. Disgusted that Killua's family never cared for or supported his own way of living. Disgusted that Silva decided to hire her to 'keep an eye' on his son. Disgusted that she accepted the mission.

Kira is disgusted with herself!

Her whole body was trembling with anger. Never in her life that she came across the thought of abandoning her mission until now!

🚩

3 days.

It's been 3 days since Kira abandoned her assigned mission.

She stopped peaking through her hotel's window to observe her target.

She didn't step foot in the Heaven's Arena.

She stopped keeping an eye on Killua Zoldyck.

The phone that was given to her for the sole purpose of delivering daily reports only kept ringing for the past 3 days. And Kira has been ignoring them.

But today, she hoisted the phone, pressed the 'answer' button, and place it to her left ear.

"Where have you been? Why aren't you answering the calls? Were Killua in trouble?"

Silva's deep voice run through Kira's ear. There's a hint of anger in his voice tho he tried to control it. Kira remains unfazed by the intimidating voice, keeping her focus on whatever was in front of her.

"My apologies, sir," Kira spoke.

"I thought I needed time to.. rethink the purpose of this whole mission that you've given me.."

There was silence between them as if Silva wanted her to continue.

So, she did.

"Did you get want you need, sir? I've told you that Killua has started nen training under the guidance of a man named Wing. And I've also updated that his progress of learning is tremendously excellent. Were there any more you need, sir? - perhaps you don't need to know about that at all-"

"You are in no position to question your mission. You never have."

Silva finally spoke. His tone was calm, however.

"All you need to do is obey me and accomplish the mission that you were tasked upon. This is the agreement that both parties agree."

Kira sighs. "Ah... Indeed I had agreed.."

The sky above her was dark and cloudy, accompanied by a loud thundering roar and lightning. Suddenly, a drop of water cascade onto her head. Followed by a few more drops, that slowly turned to increasingly tempestuous rain.

Picking up calls on a rainy day is a bad idea, especially there's no roof above Kira.

"You've never questioned your mission before. Even back then when you were tasked to keep an eye on that lazy pig that literally never move out of his room. Why now?"

"Because I felt that you should let Killua plan his own future and stop molding him into something he's not. Therefore, I'm dropping off this mission. I'll gladly accept any form of punishment that will be bestowed upon me. "

Silva didn't respond to that. Or maybe he did but Kira failed to hear it due to the fierce, wind-driven rain. Nevertheless, she's still not finished.

"And don't ever refer Milluki as of a lazy pig. You don't even know everything about him."

Kira cut off the call as soon as she said that. She then proceeds to remove the sim card and crush it. She did the same to the phone, and throw it off the building where she's standing. By now, she's already drenched and cold. But her eyes still focused on what's ahead of her.

Through the window of Wing's apartment, there's Killua and his friends, practicing to strengthen their nen.

Kira knows she's supposed to stop stalking the white-haired Zoldyck boy. But somehow, she also wanted to see how Killua has grown, both physically and mentally. She wanted Killua to be strong enough to protect himself and others around him.

Unfortunately, only time will tell. But right now, Killua is on the correct path.

Maybe someday, he would be strong enough to resist Illumi's manipulation.

Eventually, Kira walked away, making it the last time that she will ever keep an eye on Killua. From now on, everything that he does would not be her business anymore.
