Chereads / Killing Snow / Chapter 22 - The 'Car'

Chapter 22 - The 'Car'

"Freedom, finally" She exhaled, gazing up at the blinding bright sky. Deducing it must have been summer since the temperature was really warm, or maybe she had just been in the cold for so long.

Enhaling a deep breath and emptying her lungs of all the negativity that had been storing up over the years, she stepped forward. Further, she needed to go further. Until she could completely escape this hell.

"Car, I want to go to the car. You said it would take me away. I want to leave now." she ordered, dragging him along of the pavement onto a road.

"W-wait! watch it!" He yelled, as he watched a yellow vehicle speed past her face. Sweat ran down his face, as he pulled her into an embrace so she wouldn't get hit.

Unaffected by the near death experience, she shrugged him off and asked, "What was that thing? It was almost as fast as me..."

In amazement at the new 'species' she thought she had witnessed, she dazed off and began wandering across the road not paying attention to the other incoming cars.

"H-hold up -" he began, as he directed her back onto the pavement, continuing "D-dont you have any sense of danger. Seriously stick to the pavement or one of those things that passed you, will flatten you. Dead."

Listening to him babying her, she rolled her eyes and started storming down the path to which he hurriedly followed. Grabbing her arm he pulled her to a hault.

"What is it now?" she whined freeing her arm from his uncomfortable grasp.

'Ughh, he's so clingy. I know we're acting like a couple but for f*cks sake, will he stop touching me however he pleases. Has he already forgotten that I hate him just because I haven't killed him yet!"

"Umm...the car..." he stumbled

"Spit it out! The car what!?" exasperated at his constant stumbling around, she spun around glaring him head on.

"Thecarisnt'thatway!" he spilled out in the one go. Ebony stunned and confused as to what language he had just spoke, asked him again exasperated and bored of his meek act.

"The car, it's in the other direction...in the car park." He huffed out, while wiping the built up sweat off his forehead. Not even bothering to ask what a car park was, Ebony strolled onwards in the other direction as if she already knew where she was going and what she was looking for.

'Park... Park! That's where kids go to play! So I should be looking for a place where some large travelling creatures are playing. Right?'

~~~~~
"What the f*ck is this?" she asked pointing at the blue car in front of her. Exhausted, Ghosty sighed rubbing his forhead. He had just had to drag her all the way here, after seeing her chasing cars up and down streets to ask 'where the park was'.
"Oiy! Ghosty! Your car is dead. What the hell were you thinking of? Did you forget to feed it or something or is this the kinda park you put the dead in. What do you call it... A graveyard!"
She exclaimed, nodding her head in agreement.
Smacked back into reality, Ghosty looked down at her disapproving face as she thought he had killed his car. Shaking his head, he pulled the key out from his pocket and clicked the button to open the doors.
Hearing the unlocking of the doors, Ebony jolted backwards thinking he might have electrocuted it back to life like he had done to her many times.
"Don't worry, it's not dead it's just a machine humans have made to travel easier. A car park is just a place people leave there cars in while they do whatever they got to do." He explained, opening the passenger door for her.
Stepping into the car and sliding into the chair, she nodded her head in realization. Heat rose to her cheeks as she realised how silly her scolding was and that she had completely got the wrong idea of the situation.
'Urgh, I really have no clue what any of this is. All my knowledge is from kids picture books and even then most of the pictures were burned or torn from when my parents had to flee their homes. My mum only took her favourite story book that she had received for her birthday one year of her parents. It included pictures of animals and weak girls in dresses called 'fairytales'. I had only managed to understand a little bit of text before my parents died. Reading wasn't really an issue out in the wild anyway. My parent's mostly taught me survival techniques so I could live without them when they died. Guess it will come in handy now, huh... Hahhh'
Shutting the door on her now saddened face , Ghosty walked around to the other side, climbing into the car and starting the ignition. As the car began vibrating suddenly, Ebony sat up strait gripping her claws into the seat of the chair.
"Whaaa...the car is making a weird noise like it's gonna go bang!" she yelled, pulling a strange expression as she went to smash a hole into the window.
"Huh, HUH! W-WAIT! HOLD UP NOT MY WINDOW! THE HANDLE THE HANDLE!" Ghosty cried, spinning around to stop her arm shooting a hole through the window.
"Don't stop me! I don't wanna be blown to pieces next to you!" she cried in disgust, as she shoved him out of the way in an attempt to continue smashing her way out.
"No! Wait! It always makes this noise it won't explode. The engine is just starting to warm up that's all." he explained, putting his arms above his head swearing honesty.
Pausing, Ebony lowered her arms, huffing as she glared at him with watering eyes.
"Really?"
"Yeah..." He confirmed, putting his hands onto the steering wheel.
"Shall we go then?"
"Uh, y-yeah. Start telling the car to go to your house remember." she commanded, averting her eyes from his as she sucked her embarrassment back in.
Suprised, as the car began to reverse backwards, she flinched while clenching her hands tightly. It swirved it's way out of the painted white lines and started rolling along the road on its way back to Ghosty's house.
It was a twenty minute drive as per usual for ghosty, but Ebony lurched forward holding her stomach as she gulped down the rising feeling in her throat.
'This is bad. Reaally bad. I feel like I'm experiencing a whole other level of torture. What is this inescapable feeling of sickness mixed with the sound of my pulse pounding inside my skull. Is this normal for this type of travelling.'
Dazed by the pulsating noise in her head, she stared over at her hostage burning holes into the side of his head. Feeling her glaring at him, he began to pale confused as to what he had done now.
Breaking the silence he asked, "Emm... You OK? Your looking a little... Agitated ."
"Ohhh... Really? Agitated is a little bit of a understatement don't your think?" she spat sarcastically, as she curled up in the seat.
"Ummm, may I ask why? Did I do something?" he queried, wondering if he was going to survive the last two minutes of the drive.
"This f*cking journey...is killing me.What... the hell did you do? I feel like you've landed blows to my stomach...while knocking me over the head with a hammer." she slurred, beginning to inhale air through the window that Ghosty had just opened.
"You feel any better?" he asked, watching her as her head hung from the side of the window panting. He smiled as he compared her to a dog wagging it's tongue out of a window.
'Mmm... I feel like I'm running in the forest without having to think about dodging trees and rocks. I don't even have to waste energy by actually having to run. This is refreshing...'
"uh-huh" she slowly replied, returning into the seat comfortably. Gazing out the window, she saw the car was becoming enveloped in trees along both sides of the road. Listening to birds and insects, she relaxed her muscles, sliding carefully back against the seat.
"We'll be arriving in a few seconds, after we leave this forest and take a left there'll be a cottage." He instructed, so she wouldn't suspect him taking her elsewhere.
"mmh" she nodded, relaxed in the comfy chair and slowly drifting off.
He exited the forest and took a left, like he said, down a narrow, rocky lane that had a white fence planted along the side of it. The car bumped up and down along the rocky driveway, causing Ebony to widen her eyes and stand alert.
Halfway along the path a large cottage came into veiw surrounded by trees and grass along with a small swing featured outside. Ebony, entranced by the scene, leaned forward to take a closer look at the ivy and rose bushes growing on the walls of the house.
*Screechh"
Pressing the breaks on the car, he turned to see Ebony fly forward and hit her head of the window. Realising he forgot to tell her about seat belts, he rushed forward seeing if she was OK.
"Ughhh, why'd it stop moving so suddenly for?" wincing, she backed into the chair rubbing her head in circles where it had hit. It was already starting to go red and swell but due to her healing abilities it quickly died down returned back to normal.
Backing off before she attacked him, Ghosty introduced his home to her with a simple "we're here."
"Right... Well. Let's get moving then!" exclaiming, she got ready to jump out the car.
"Yeah..." he stated, worrying about how his wife and son were going to react to him bringing home a thirteen year old girl, dressed in the seductive dress his wife wore on one of the days she went to visit his office...
*Smash*
"Ooops..."
