She shivered at the thought of the terrible things that would happen to Aaron. It must not have been easy for Aaron to come here and she just added to the problem.
"I have to meet him," said Mai again. She glanced at Karina.
"Help me, okay?" Mai's eyes flashed anxiety and plea. Karina was silent.

That afternoon suddenly the sky that had been clear turned dark, a sign that it was going to rain. Mai hastened her steps, afraid of the rain falling. After begging Karina to help her, Mai is finally able to go out to find Aaron.
Karina's job is to cover up her departure by pretending Mai is still in the room. Mai promised to return as soon as possible. Mai felt bad, she had never done this before, defied and lied to her parents but she had to do it.
