Chapter 36 - Movements of the Mage Union

Sha Bao still had some impression of Gehr. It was because he was poisoned that he attracted the attention of the priest and sensed Lei Luo's presence. As a result, the series of events had occurred. The priest tried to slay a dragon and sell it to humans to obtain great benefits.

It was a pity that all of this had been planned perfectly, but reality had given the Merman Race a cold slap. They had completely failed.

Not only did the previous tribe leader die, but a Level-4 warrior also died. Now, the merman priest was also dead.

Until now, there were still many ordinary clansmen who didn't understand what exactly happened.

As for Gehr, Sharbao could not blame him. All of this had nothing to do with him. The main problem was the priest. He was too ambitious and did not have enough strength. In the end, he played himself to death and implicated the Merman Race.

A smile appeared on Sharbao's face. "Alright, Gehr, come over and tell me. The rest of you, go prepare the banquet."

It was normal for a banquet to be held when the tribe leader returned.

The other clansmen left. Soon, only Gehr and Sharbao were left.

"Tribe leader, let me start from the beginning. On the second day after you and the Lord Priest left, a human noble descendant arrived. Their guards stood on the ship and could easily harm our Level-3 clansmen. We didn't dare to have any contact with them. Then, on the third day, the ship suddenly sailed away."

"On the eighth day, the depths of the sea shook, but we did not dare to go in to investigate."

"However, on the 15th day, the human merchants came to trade with us and brought news from their side."

"It's said that there's something important in the depths of the sea. The Mage Union sent two Legendary powerhouses there, but they were ambushed. One died, and the other was severely injured. It's said that their Demigod expert is preparing to take revenge."

"This caused quite a stir in the human world. It's comparable to the Poison Dragon incident two years ago. However, it's said that the legendary Poison Dragon also fled deep into the sea."

"I wonder if it has anything to do with this incident."

When Gehr spoke of these principles, it was clear that he had a special understanding of the situation.

The Merman Race lacked entertainment. However, because of their strength, it was difficult for them to hunt sea beasts. Thus, the rumors of the human world were enough to excite them.

At the mention of the Poison Dragon, Sharbao inadvertently asked, "Why is it related to the Poison Dragon again? Didn't you say that it was already dead?"

Gehr shook his head and said seriously, "I don't know. The human merchants said so, and they even wanted to organize teams of people to explore the depths of the sea. They said there were treasures buried by the Poison Dragons, and they wanted to bring along the Merman Race to lead the way for them. I rejected them as I've never been to the depths."

Sharbao's expression was normal, but he was even more shocked in his heart.

Gehr knew about Lei Luo's existence. He had never seen Lei Luo before, but he knew that there was a young Poison Dragon deep in the sea.

However, after being affected by the Conch of Forgetting, he had completely forgotten about it.

At the very least, none of his memories from the past month that had been erased were left behind. Furthermore, Gehr didn't notice that he had been affected. The conch had been used in the Merman Race before, but it had never achieved the current effects.

Gehr was speaking happily when he noticed that Sharbao was a little distracted. He asked softly, "Tribe leader, tribe leader, what's wrong? Should I not have refused?"

Sha Bao reacted and found an excuse. "No, it was good that you rejected. I'm thinking about how humans are preparing to head to the depths of the sea. Will this affect us? After all, the power of Demigods is beyond our imagination. Contact the human merchants and report to me once you have more information."

"It would be best if we can find out which Demigod is deployed. However, if there's anything that we don't like, our Merman Race will immediately correct it."

"The clan leader is indeed the clan leader. I didn't think of that. I'll go and make contact with them now." Gehr grinned and flattered Sharbao. Then, he swam towards the island.

The Merman Race and the human merchants had traded many times. Thus, both sides had built a magic array to communicate with each other.

If there was a special trade, they would communicate with each other in advance.

Gehr wasn't aware of this at first. However, in the past month, the tribe leader and priest had gone missing, and there wasn't a single Level-4 warrior. Thus, he had been pushed out by his clansmen to manage the trade and learned a lot.

He also knew how to activate the magic array that was connected to the human merchants and was effective at it.

After Gehr left, Sharbao did not bother about him. Instead, he recorded all the news he heard and was prepared to show it to Lei Luo when he went back.

He did not even intend to leave the newspaper with the Merman Race. It was useless even if they knew about the news. After all, the difference in strength was too great. At most, they would not be bored by reading the news. However, it was different if he gave the newspaper to Lei Luo. On one hand, it could show the attitude of the Merman Race. On the other hand, this information might be useful to Lei Luo.

Their current actions were equivalent to an investment. The Merman Race had no other choice.

The merman priest had wanted to attract the attention of the human experts through the magic array. He would die either way, so he might as well take a gamble.

This matter would rise and affect the entire race.

Once the Merman Race reported the discovery of the Poison Dragon to the humans, the human experts would definitely suspect something and investigate the situation. Once they confirmed the authenticity of the information, they would definitely ask the Merman Race what else they knew and whether they were hiding any secrets. If they said they didn't know anything, who would believe them?

With the Poison Dragon's value, the humans would rather slaughter the entire Merman Race than let go of any valuable information.

Even if they managed to escape, the races that were close to the Poison Dragon Clan would come looking for trouble.

The Poison Dragon bloodline was the public enemy of the continent. However, there were only rumors of races that were close to the Poison Dragon Race. No one knew who these races were.

Sharbao looked at the document in his hand and sighed, not thinking about anything else.

Time passed very quickly. Seven days had passed since Sharbao returned to the Merman Race. If he included the journey back, he should have left for Lei Luo's island today.

However, Sharbao was not in a hurry to announce his schedule. He planned to announce it at night and then leave overnight.

Today, human merchants would come to the Merman Race again.

The Merman Race was not purchasing goods from them. Instead, the human merchants would serve as an outpost for the Merman Race to collect information about the human nobles and the Mage Union that would arrive later.

After such a long discussion, the Mage Union finally made a decision to send ten Legendary powerhouses. As for whether there were any Demigods accompanying them in secret, no one knew.

The human world was also in an uproar because of this operation. All the kingdoms were talking about it and rumors were spreading.

Sharbao wanted to collect some information about this and send it back to Lei Luo.

After all, going back and forth was very time-consuming and troublesome.

When the human merchants arrived, Sharbao did not appear. Instead, he let the experienced Gehr receive them and obtain some information at the same time.

The members of the merchant group were willing to share some information that wasn't considered confidential. After all, they could earn a large amount of gold coins from trading with the Merman Race every year, so there was no need to spoil their relationship over trivial matters.

After the merchants arrived at the island, they started to build simple houses. They were evidently preparing to stay for some time.

Sharbao recorded everything that he saw. He also recorded what the merchants were boasting about.

An hour later, Gehr bid farewell to the leader of the merchants and returned to the seabed.

Upon seeing Sharbao, Gehr couldn't help but shout, "Tribe leader, there's big news! The Mage Union didn't send ten Legendary powerhouses, but 20."

"It's said that they will fly over our heads and follow the route they used to pursue the Poison Dragon. Their destination is the abyssal rift."

"The Mercenary Guild has also organized members to go on this expedition, but I'm not sure how strong they are."

"This battle might affect us. Should we be on guard?"

Sharbao raised his eyebrows slightly. "Tell me clearly. Why do they want to follow the path they used to pursue the Poison Dragon? There must be a reason, right?"

Gehr looked up at the human merchant ship and said softly, "They said that the Poison Dragon wasn't killed back then, and this incident is related to it. Thus, they are going to follow the same route and correct their mistakes. They also said that it was worth it to kill their way into the abyss."

The corners of Sharbao's mouth twitched slightly, and he felt an inexplicable panic in his heart. His first thought was to hide this and not reveal this news to Lei Luo.

However, after thinking about it, he eventually did not dare to hide it and recorded it on the fish scales.

That night, Sharbao gave Gehr some instructions and secretly left the Merman Race's territory at night.
