Chapter 8 - Gehr is Severely Injured

The two One-Horned Seals had been infected by the poison for quite some time. They had already used all their strength to resist the poison just now. Thus, when Lei Luo rushed over, they only had time to shake their heads and try to avoid him.

While they managed to dodge the dragon claws, the poisonous breath poured down from above them and quickly invaded their brains.

Then, the two One-Horned Seals stiffened and sank to the bottom of the sea.

After finishing them off, Lei Luo didn't even look at them. He ran straight for the Level-4 Water Lion. Furthermore, it was currently escaping. If he really let it escape, his harvest today would be much worse.

Each level was a watershed. Thus, the difference in energy contained within the body was also very large.

Relying on the powerful body of the dragon race and the Water Lion that had already been weakened by the poison, Lei Luo swept his claws over the Water Lion and lashed his tail at the Water Lion from the side.

"Roar!" The Water Lion roared and raised its head slightly. A thick energy barrier appeared.

Kacha ~ Kacha ~

Cracks appeared on the energy barrier, but it managed to block the attack.

The Water Lion did not stay to fight. Instead, it continued to run forward, sensing that its life was in danger.

A ferocious glint flashed across Lei Luo's eyes as he chased after the Water Lion. "Damn it, you better stay!"

There were still many spoils of war behind him. He could not leave for too long, but he did not want to give up on the harvest in front of him. Thus, he had to end it quickly!

The Water Lion was a Level-4 aquatic creature after all. Even after being poisoned twice, its speed was still not slow. It gradually left Lei Luo behind and was about to enter the deep sea.

Lei Luo's eyes flickered as he suddenly had an idea. Could he further develop the Second Growth characteristic using his existing foundation and turn it into the Third Growth Characteristic?

As soon as he thought of this, Lei Luo immediately activated it.

The Poison Dragon's bloodline circulated in his body. At a certain moment, it paused for a second before moving forward at an even more intense speed. A drop of green blood was extracted from the red blood and entered Lei Luo's throat.

The Third Growth characteristic was activated!

Roar!

The Water Lion roared in despair. It struggled with all its limbs and tried to swim forward, but its body was sinking.

"Something seems to have changed in my body. I don't care anymore. I'll think about it when I get back."

Lei Luo looked down and flew forward.

First, he pierced the back of the Water Lion's head to prevent it from escaping the effects of the poison and becoming a threat. Then, he flew back and held the two One-Horned Seals in his mouth.

Lei Luo no longer cared about ordinary creatures below Level-1. They were removed from his menu, and they really did not taste not that good. The energy contained in them was also poor. What was the point of bringing them back?

Four of his claws were holding his prey, while the Water Lion was in his mouth. He gave up on the rest of his prey.

Lei Luo surfaced, flapped his wings hard, and quickly left.

What he did not know was that the Third Growth of the poison not only affected the poison in the Water Lion's body, but also the other poisons.

However, the effects weren't that obvious, but it still grew again and remained at the bottom of the sea.

Five hours after Lei Luo left the sea.

The merman who had been sleeping until now came to patrol this area.

There had been no abnormalities in the surrounding sea for nearly a hundred years, so the Merman Race was very relaxed.

According to past experience, the deep sea area wasn't a problem, and the area bordering the shallow sea wasn't a problem either. They just needed to travel two rounds.

As the merman floated up, everything in the surrounding sea was normal.

Large fish could usually be seen eating small fish, but they did not appear here. Not even an active school of fish could be seen, making this area appear a bit quiet and abnormal.

"The schools of fish must have entered the sea."

The merman gave himself an explanation, then patrolled in peace.

However, he stopped when he was a third of the way through.

In the last part of the sea in front of him, there was not a single living fish. Instead, they were all dead. They floated on the surface of the sea and swayed along with the waves.

Most of them were ordinary fishes, while a small number were Level-1 sea beasts.

There were bite marks on the corpses of Level-1 sea beasts. It should have been caused by a normal school of fish, but for some reason, both the sea beasts and the fish had died.

"Something has happened. Could the deep sea pollution have leaked?"

The merman backed away, looking alarmed.

However, after observing for a while, he calmed down. The creatures that died were all below Level-1. With his Level-3 body, there wasn't much danger.

After calming down, the merman slowly walked forward and picked up a dead fish on the surface of the sea. He first looked at it.

"There's no scratches. It's not caused by a human fishing net, and it doesn't look like it was killed by any other creature."

"Instead, it ate a Level-1 creature and died. However, how did that Level-1 die?"

"It's hard to judge from its appearance. Let me eat it and see."

The merman thought for a moment and opened his mouth to swallow the dead fish. He closed his eyes to feel the fish and frowned. "It's not a normal death. There's a small amount of poison in its body. It should be from the Level-1 creature."

"However, the Level-1 creature also died. Who brought the source of the poison?"

The merman waved his pitchfork and pushed the dead fish to the side. It slowly sank to the bottom of the sea. Meanwhile, Level-1 sea beasts were already out of the range of ordinary creatures and would not float to the surface.

Since he had discovered this matter, he had to investigate it thoroughly. It could be considered a meritorious deed.

After gathering the corpses of all the Level-1 creatures, the merman's pitchfork cut through their skin, revealing the slightly blackened bones at the bottom. Its expression changed immediately. Then, when he cut open the stomach pouch, he retreated in panic and looked around.

The fact that the bones had turned black meant that the creatures had been poisoned to death. It was possible that they had eaten some poisonous substance. Alternatively, this had been caused by the harsh environment.

However, if their stomachs were empty, that was unusual. It meant they had been killed by other creatures.

To be able to kill ranked creatures on such a large scale using poison, the killer had to either have a special item to be very powerful. Regardless, it would be very easy for them to kill a Level-3 merman like him.

When faced with a life-threatening situation, the merman naturally panicked.

However, after a while, the merman gradually calmed down.

There were no abnormalities in the surrounding sea. The dead fish were still drifting along with the waves. Thus, that mysterious creature should have left.

"This is not something I can investigate. I should hurry up and report it. Why am I feeling a little dizzy?"

"I must have been scared. Business is more important."

The merman's face was pale, but he did not realize it.

After taking away a group of ordinary fish and a Level-1 sea beast, the merman hurriedly left and headed deeper into the sea.

As for the scene, he could no longer care about it. It was beyond his ability.

The territory of the Merman Race was quite far from the sea area where it was patrolling. The journey would take three days. However, in order to report in time, the merman sacrificed his weapons and enhanced his speed. In six hours, he returned to the gathering place of the Merman Race.

When he appeared outside the race, he was quickly discovered by other mermen.

"Gehr, weren't you out on patrol? Why are you back so soon?"

"Why didn't you say anything after getting home?"

"Something's wrong. Something's happened."

Some of the mermen noticed Gehr's odd behavior and quickly swam up to him. They noticed that Gehr's face was dark and blue, and his skin was shriveling. His aura was so weak that he was almost as strong as a Level-1 creature.

Before setting off, he was a Level-3 warrior!

"Quickly inform the priest that Gehr might have encountered an enemy and suffered serious injuries."

The clansman held Gehr up, and he instantly fainted.
