Chapter 2 - Infancy

"Waaaaaaaah!!" The sounds of a crying newborn rang out in the doctor's sterile cabinet but were muffled out by the joyful sounds of the medical staff and the family.

Today was a blissful day for the Yerzog household, which just gained an additional member.

The now-mother of the newborn was, however, collapsed as it seemed childbirth took a huge toll on her.

The doctor in charge assigned the nurses to take care of her and wrapped the baby in a thick blanket before carefully holding him up to his father, a young-looking man with strong eyebrows and western features.

"It's a boy." The doctor stated.

The man gently took the baby into his hand and with tears falling out of his face he proclaimed "Ariel and I have agreed that if it were a boy, we would name him Yohan, to instill the grace of the Divine Spirit in our son, and thank Them for granting us such a gift."

"Congratulations!" The medical staff exclaimed in unison.

"How is Ariel doing?" The new father asked them anxiously.

"She'll be back at full health in very little time...

2 months later

The Yerzog household, who were in the prime of their lives following a myriad of successes in their lives, moved to a new house, a small villa located in the suburbs of the city of Hasseima, the capital of the Muzdahir Kingdom, a reasonably developed state with plenty of fertile soil and a prosperous economy.

Yohan, their infant, was steadily growing and although the responsibilities of being new parents was sometimes hard on the couple, they still did their best to make sure their son grew up in a safe and happy household.

The outside world, however, wasn't so safe.

Due to the topography of the kingdom making it easily invadable and the fertile soil, it was very hard for it to maintain sovereignty as it was surrounded by larger and stronger powers.

For most of the time, nonetheless, the Muzdahir Kingdom maintained a level of peace because they were a vassal state of the Vesantium Empire to the north and paid tribute to the empire in exchange for protection.

Despite that, as a result of the growing influence of the Parsath Grand Satrapy to the east, the kingdom could be put in a vulnerable position.

Yohan's father, Noah Yerzog, was painfully aware of the political turmoil and it was one of the driving factors in their decision to move to the capital, the safest city in the kingdom.

Their little baby, that would unfortunately be embroiled in the conflict in the future, wasn't currently aware of anything and lived a carefree life, without any responsibilities and worries.

When he was hungry, he was fed.

When he was cold, he was wrapped in warm blankets and hugged by his parents.

When he was sleepy, he slept.

Little Yohan had every desire of his baby brain fulfilled, and hence had a peaceful childhood, reminiscent of a still pond.

A still pond that would albeit, turn turbulent in response to external and internal factors.
