Chapter 20 - Worth (3)

Homerun to left field which was 325ft away from home plate.

Homerun to right field.

Hit to center field.

Hit to right field.

Hit to left field.

...

...

...

"That's enough." Coach Helios called out.

In the end, Yue threw 20 pitches, and Rei hit all of them perfectly as he hit the ball over the field.

Rei had learned that Yue had a very versatile pitching arsenal.

Fastball

Sinker

Splitter

Slider

curveball

His top speed from what Rei could see was 89 mph.

Coach Helios walked up to Rei with the rest.

"Can you hit anywhere you want on the field, over and over? Even foul off multiple times?" Coach Helios said seriously.

"Yes," Rei spoke coldly.

Coach Helios took a cold breath, before looking at Kai.

"You want to go against him?"

Kai's lazy expression was replaced with an arrogant one, as a wild aura followed him, "Yes!"

"Okay then let's get some fielders into the mix."

Kai was a right pitcher, so Rei stepped into the lefty box surprising everyone.

"Rei your a switch hitter?" Sora asked in disbelief.

"Yes, both I and my sister are switch hitters," Rei answered before ignoring Sora, as he focused on Kai who was on the mound.

Sora looked toward Coach Helios, as he saw him nodding causing him to sigh as he squatted down.

If Yue was like a blazing sun, Kai was like a chaotic river, destroying everything in its path.

Though Rei ignored him, he scanned the field to take note of where the fielders were, before nodding at Kai, and Kai nodded back.

He began his motion with a slow windup, rocking back and forth on the pitcher's mound as he gathered his strength and focus. As he began to move forward, he lifted his left leg high off the ground, keeping his right leg planted firmly on the rubber. With his left arm extended out in front of him, he brought his leg down and began to rotate his hips and shoulders toward home plate. At the peak of his delivery, his arm was fully extended and cocked back behind his head, as if he were pulling back a slingshot. Then, in one fluid motion, he whipped his arm forward with incredible speed and force, releasing the ball with a flick of his wrist.

The ball seemed to explode out of his hand, hurtling toward home plate with incredible velocity and precision.

A 92 mph fastball.

As the fastball approached home plate, Rei could see the red seams spinning wildly, giving the baseball some movement that made it seem almost alive. With lightning-fast reflexes, Rei started his motion, slightly raising his leg and planting his right foot perfectly horizontally, his right foot perfectly aligned with the batter's box's lines.

He twisted his hips, but kept his chest tight, ready to take a swing at the ball. As the ball came closer and closer, Rei's eyes never left it, watching as it spun and twisted through the air. Finally, he swung the bat with all his might, the force of his blow sending the bat slicing through the air like a knife.

"CRACK!~"

There was a loud crack that echoed through the field like thunder, as the wooden bat connected with the ball, sending it flying straight to center field. It was an incredible hit, the ball soaring through the air with incredible speed and power, the ball kept flying, higher and higher, easily clearing the 400 ft mark and disappearing behind the 35ft gate.

"Sora." Kai didn't even look back at the ball, and looked directly at Sora waiting for a new ball.

Sora threw the ball back, as they got to their stances once more.

The sun blazed down on the field as Xu Kai stood on the mound, his eyes scanning the diamond with laser focus.

He gripped the ball tightly, feeling its weight in his hand as he began his windup.

With a burst of energy, he hurled the ball toward Rei, releasing it with a flick of his wrist.

The ball spun through the air, its seams cutting through the wind with deadly accuracy.

Suddenly Rei's eyes widened as he saw the pitch him, but he was too late to react.

The ball quickly broke sharply to the left, diving down and away from Rei's bat. Though Rei being a batting prodigy managed to adjust his swing at the last second.

"CRACK~"

With a loud crack, the bat connected with the ball, sending it soaring toward the right field.

Everyone watching held their breath as the ball climbed higher and higher, its trajectory taking it over the 35-foot fence that was 325 feet away from home plate.

It was a breathtaking sight, the ball disappearing into the blue sky as it headed toward its final destination.

kai watched with a mixture of admiration and frustration as the ball cleared the fence, a homerun for Rei.

A nasty screwball from Kai, and an amazing home run from Rei.
