"So I'm guessing you know where we're going now?" Rei asked the goddess that was right next to him with a smile on his face.
"Yes, we're going to the baseball field," Yuxin replied seriously before going back to smiling.
"So I'm curious, did they tell you about the entire tryouts?" he replied since she knew everything they'd done so far.
"En, since I'm the softball captain, and it's vice-versa with the baseball captain with the softball team, and no I didn't tell you because it wouldn't have mattered I already knew you were gonna be fine either way," Yuxin said with a cheerful smile on her face with her eyes looking into his, full of confidence in him which he didn't fully understand why.
"Can I ask how you knew I was going to be fine?" he asked while looking into her eyes waiting for her response with a curious expression on his face that had a tiny smile on it kind of expecting what she's gonna say.
"Mhmm... because I just knew since I saw you, in the beginning, you had that aura around you, and because I believed in you too," she responded with a cute little laugh as she squeezed his hand at the same time.
"Oh? What kind of aura did I have then?" he responded with a slight chuckle, as he subtly squeezed her hand too.
"It was unique, something you never feel like a god looking down on humans while he sits on his throne, so full of suffocation and suppression, but full of confidence as if nothing can beat you," Yuxin replied having a hard time coming up with the right words to describe it, as her face slightly scrunched up cutely.
Rei silently chuckled looking at Yuxin's funny face.
"...Interesting," Rei said as Coach Miller started talking once they reached the stairs, where he met Yuxin that led down into the practice fields.
"Okay everyone we're going into the practice field at the end of the walkway which is field C.'' Coach Miller said as he pointed to field C which was just down the walkway.
As they continued walking past Field B, and Field A they were still as beautiful as ever. Beautiful green grass anyone will ever see, soft dark ground dirt that looks so pleasing to the eyes. Then there's the mound that looks so stunning that it's calling to you to just stand on it.
"It looks so majestic,'' Rei said to Yuxin who was just walking through it like it was nothing special.
"Hahaha, I had that same goofy look on your face when I first saw it years ago. It never changed but it still looks as amazing as ever." Yuxin replied as she enjoyed looking at Rei's goofy face, with a rosy tint on her face.
"Okay everyone, we're gonna play some baseball now." Coach Miller bellowed as everyone started clapping their hands excitedly, except Yuxin and Rei because their hands were still interlocked with one another.
"Yeah, I know you're all excited but don't forget only 5 of you will pass. So you guys are gonna play 5v5. Each team will have a catcher, pitcher, infielders, and an outfielder, or however you guys want to defend as long as you have a catcher or pitcher. The positions and batting order will be decided by you and your team. Teams will be picked by me." Coach Miller stated as he asked for the clipboard from the assistant manager.
"Team 1 vs Team 2 will be the first match. Now I'm gonna announce the players for both teams so pay attention."
"Team 1 will be Rei Kitsune, Kaminari Akuma, Kyle Baker, Austin Carter, and Starling Kaiyo." Coach Miller said then waited a few seconds before announcing team 2.
"Team 2 will be Leo Brooks, Dylan Collins, Anthony Ramirez, Lee Ito, and Thomas Sato. Both teams group up and decide your positions. You have 6 minutes."
"Well, I guess I gotta go now." Rei sighed as he turned to his right to face Yuxin.
"Don't worry you'll be fine besides I'm leaving you a little good luck charm hehe," Yuxin replied with a slight laugh and a very red face.
"Oh, and what's that?" he asked with a warm and caring smile as he looked at her being all adorable and shy.
"Close your eyes, bend down a little," Yuxin replied mysteriously but her face is as red as a neon sign, but Rei did as asked. he bent his knees a bit to where he was about her height and closed his eyes.
'Of course, I'm expecting a slight kiss because who wouldn't haha.' he thought expecting his good luck charm.
"Okay 3, 2, 1... 'flick.' Haha, you thought! Good luck out there." Yuxin said right after she flicked Rei's lips with her delicate index finger and ran off laughing with the cutest laugh he's ever heard before covering her face.
Opening his eyes he saw her running away covering her face which he figured was dangerously red from excitement and anticipation.
Of course, he heard curses coming from his left from the players who witnessed everything. With eyes, he could only consider glowing red beady eyes, and of course, he didn't care what they said or thought as he walked towards the dugout where his 'team' was.
Arriving in the dugout he saw all 4 of his teammates waiting for him.
Kaminari was 6'1" (185.42 cm), with an athletic build, black hair, and dark blue eyes who could be considered quite handsome.
Starling was 6'0" (182.88 cm) with a toned body, blonde hair, and golden-colored eyes and was extremely good-looking.
Kyle was 5'8" (172.72 cm) with a fit body brown hair and hazel eyes.
Lastly, Austin was 5'7" (170.18 cm) with a built body and brown hair, and eyes both Kyle and Austin were hazel.
Though both Austin and Kyle didn't look happy to see him.
"Finally about time you dumb fox." Austin barked at him with Kyle beside him with a displeased look on his face.
While Starling and Kaminari were fixing their gear, they looked up and said hello politely before going back to fix their stuff.
'Nice to see some people still have manners.' Rei mumbled to himself as he ignored Kyle and Austin to say hello back to the two.
He put his bag on the bench and took out his gear as he started getting ready as Kaminari started talking.
"Alright, that's enough we need to decide our positions because we still need to win to make the team," Kaminari said with a smile on his face that was a smile and wasn't a smile at the same time but the 2nd meaning was directed towards Austin and Kyle.
"Kaminari is right, we need to hurry up." Starling slipped his opinion in too.
"Let's start with names, the middle school you played with, and the position you want to play." Kaminari said as he pointed toward Austin and Kyle.
"Whatever I'm Austin Carter I played for Prince Middle, and I'm playing catcher," Austin stated as if there was no other option, irritating Kaminari, Starling, and Rei as they found it annoying.
"I'm Kyle Baker. I also played for Prince Middle and I'll play 2nd to 3rd." Kyle spoke for the first time, his voice laced with disgust toward us.
"I'll go next. I'm Starling Kaiyo. I played for Highgate middle, and I'll play 1st to 2nd since I know both Rei, and Kaminari are pitchers." Starling said his voice was pleasing to the ear with a friendly smile on his face
"I'm Kaminari Akuma. I played for NorthStar Academy and I want to play pitcher." Kaminari said politely.
"So we got the Ace of NorthStar Academy the 2nd rank middle school and the best second basemen from Highgate Middle the 3rd rank middle school," Austin stated slightly less displeased.
"I'm Rei Kitsune. I didn't play in middle school and I want to play pitcher." Rei said coldly.
"No, absolutely not well go with Kaminari as our pitcher you can play outfield." Kyle shot it down instantly.
"You can't do that, we're a team we have to decide as a team." Both Starling and Kaminari were displeased with the way they decided by themselves.
"Too late we're already out of time, we'll decide batting order after we field." Austin butted in as Coach Miller blew his whistle.
"Alright, both teams come line up." Coach Miller said out loud as both Austin and Kyle walked out of the dugout leaving the three of us behind.
"Fucking assholes," Starling commented as the three of them looked at each other before laughing.
"Don't worry about it guys, as long as we win Kaminari you'll pitch," Rei said after they had a good laugh with each other.
"Are you sure man?" Kaminari said after he stopped laughing but was still smiling.
"Yeah I don't want them to complain on the field, and you're pretty good from what I saw earlier," Rei replied with a shrug.
"Alright let's go do this guys," Starling said excitedly as they high-fived each other before the three of them ran out from the dugout to line up next to home plate.
"Okay gentlemen, the pitching coach will be the umpire. We're gonna play one inning whoever has more runs wins obviously but if it's a tie we'll go another inning understood?" Coach Miller said as he pointed to the pitching coach in umpire gear.
"Yes, coach." everyone responded before shaking hands with each other.
As Rei was shaking the other team's hands he got a good look at all of them, nothing too extraordinary around 5'6" to 6'0" in height with fit builds.
"Alright since our home team dugout is the third base dugout Team 2 will bat first while Team 1 will field. Let's play ball, gentlemen." the pitching coach stated before blowing his whistle signaling the start of the game as Rei's team walked to their respective positions.
Though Rei quickly pulled Kaminari aside first.
"If you don't feel like you have it or you can't do it, not that I don't believe in you but we can switch if you want to later on," he said to Kaminari.
"Alright, thanks man," Kaminari said with a smile as they touched gloves before running to their positions as he ran to the mound, and Rei ran to center field.
