"I heard it's your favorite. Is that true?" Ryley gently prodded, hoping to coax a smile from her.
Rosie nodded, her lips still downturned in a pout as she spoke softly, "Papi loved it too, and we always had dinner together…"
Ryley felt a lump form in his throat at her words, the weight of her sadness pressing down on him like a heavy burden. Now he understood the source of her sorrow.
The blond reached out with his thumb gently brushing the sadness away from her cheek.
"I know. You must have missed him so much," he said, his voice filled with warmth and understanding. "But you know what? I think he would still want you to eat your favorite ice cream, even if he's not here."
He smiled gently, holding out his hand to her. "How about we go try that ice cream together and catch some fireflies in the garden later?"
With a small nod, Rosie finally agreed, her tiny hand slipping into Ryley's as they stood together.
