The woman's sarcasm and that stoic impression that she always holds whenever she speaks to her, it always give an awkward feeling for Emy, and not once she had accustomed to it as it made her feel uncomfortable every time.
Ever since the tragedy happened, Mrs. Idris became colder towards Emy, though she doesn't like Emy for her son from the very beginning of their relationship as Mrs. Idris is a kind of mother who wanted someone with prominent background for her son to marry, and Emy is not just enough with the way she had set her high expectations.
This is because his son was able to graduate from a prominent university abroad with flying colors, who also had been contracted as a part-time commercial model at the same time while he is still in college back then. With his early achievements, Mrs. Idris has high expectations for her son to be joining a showbiz career abroad as he was offered to make his modeling career a full time job and there is no doubt with his good looks and perfectly fit body.
However, back then he was more into his management field so her mother had no choice and gave him their family business to handle, since there's no doubt on her son's skills but when her son came back from abroad, that's also the time when he met Emy at a common friend's party, and from then on he knew that he was already captured by her hazel eyes and he never did once let her go.
Emy's late husband has been a successful business man managing his family business with his competitive spirit, strong leadership qualities, and being compassionate to his employees. A good husband and father to Amy who values quality time for his family, and a good son who still assists her mother from time to time even if he is full from juggling many roles.
That is why her mother-in-law must have missed his son so much that she still couldn't let go of the tragic past that suddenly took her son away from her. Although the woman hadn't said it in direct words, Emy could feel that she has always been blaming it to her, that if ever her son hadn't met and marry Emy, his life would have a different fate and he would still be alive today.
When the three of them got home after their lunch out, Emy took her daughter Amy to their room and lead her to bed letting her rest, she laid beside her until she had fallen asleep after their quick shower and then carefully leaves the bed as to not wake her daughter up, and gently closed the door as she went out of their room.
She informed her mother, Mrs. Prim that she would be out for awhile to meet Ada as she called her earlier while they are at the restaurant a while ago. Mrs. Prim didn't hold back Emy from going out as she is clearly aware of her daughter's habit when she needed space to think and clear her mind. Instead, Mrs. Prim just silently observes Emy, but then it has always been the maternal instinct that makes a mother feels and understand her child even with unspoken words.
Emy took a bus to get to the park she usually goes whenever her mood is quite down, she had her usual spot there which is one of the wood benches under a tall tree with branches widely spread that makes it look bigger than it actually is because of the broad shade it occupies. This is also where Emy and her best friends usually have their late night coffee, particularly after those drinking nights at the Psycho Suzi's Bar.
The park has a spacious ground that is covered with healthy vibrant and well-maintained grass that looks like a green carpet under the warm sun ray. It is always open anytime of the day, even at night as it is a public place. This has been a perfect tranquil place for Emy for the past several months as it gives serene and free from disturbance ambiance.
Sitting at the wood bench with her two legs up in front of her chest that both of her arms are hugging while her chin rest on her knees, Emy's mind is in deep thought as she stares without directly staring at something, Her mother-in-law's words still resonates in her head, as if still hearing her speaking voice over and over again.
Sometimes, Emy would ask herself if feeling guilty was what she had naturally felt over this past several months, or because there are those kinds of people that made her feel guilty about the tragedy up to the point that she also wanted to blame herself.
'I also lost a loved one…It's not like I had wished for it as I am also in pain' Emy thought to herself. Fighting back her tears from falling, she just closed her eyes and buried her face to her knees.
Minutes had passed, Ada had arrived at the park, noticing the way Emy is sitting at the bench, she hurriedly walk towards where she is.
"Did somebody take your lollipop away?" Ada said with her teasing words but her face looks worried as she stood in front of Emy now.
Hearing the familiar voice, Emy turned her head up to look at the pretty chic lady in front of her, and then she smiles at her as if not letting her worry too much as she answers "Yes...and the woman who gave it to me is scolding me for losing it…" and her smile was now replaced with a sad smile that didn't reached her eyes as a deep sigh escaped her lips.
Ada sits beside her with legs crossed over the other as she asks "What happened? What did the witch do to you this time?" her gaze is focused on Emy as she told everything that had happened a while ago at the cemetery.
Emy already gave her the heads up about it when she had called her earlier this noon, that's why when she came and saw Emy it made her worry and so without beating around the bush, Ada directly asked about it.
"I truly hate that witch's attitude! She is the complete opposite of her son which I am thankful that her son didn't inherit her disgusting behavior!" Ada exclaimed after hearing the whole scenario from Emy, and Emy's lips pulled up at one side as she was already expecting this kind of reaction from Ada.
Now that Emy somehow released the tension in her chest through speaking it out with her best friend, she suddenly thought of Harry, and to change the vibe she asks Ada "Did you have any update about harry?" she looked at Ada with her innocent concerned eyes waiting for answers.
Ada feeling guilty for not telling it sooner to Emy, adding up her eyes now that is staring at her, she lets out a deep sigh as she finally says "I went to his condominium last week to see him…"
"Really and… Did you talk to him?" Emy curiously firing consecutive questions at her,
"Yes…he said he had lost his phone and so he bought a new one and a new number of course, that's why he wasn't able to receive any of our calls or messages" Ada answered with flat tone, her head down while speaking looking at her shoes.
Emy's eyebrows furrowed hearing what Ada had said as she also noticed the sudden change of her friend's mood for her to asks further "Then why didn't he tried to call us about it? Don't tell me he doesn't memorize our phone numbers after all this years?! Besides, why did he take an indefinite leave? Did you ask him?"
"I don't know why he doesn't reached us and told us about it sooner, but he said that he has plans and he is busy with it for now, he will talk about it once it's ready" Ada answered with her voice appearing to be quite uninterested at the topic, but deep within her she knew that it just annoyed her with the memories of that night that's flashing back in her mind.
"He has plans? You think it's something about business?" Emy asked trying to figure out Harry, but Ada just shrugged her shoulders as she also didn't know what Harry is up to.
"Did the two of you have a fight?" Emy can't stop her unswerving curiosity so she asked again as she noticed that something is off with Ada.
"No! But that man pisses me off a lot!" Ada's quick retort shocked Emy, it's like somebody had pushed her button and her annoyance just burst out.
"What happened with the two of you?" Emy's eyebrows furrowed and her voice worried,
"That man has been hiding another woman in his condominium!" Ada exclaimed! Her face and tone holds anger and resentment in them.
Although the way Ada delivered the words are a bit intriguing for Emy, she just ignored it for now as Ada appeared to be really not in the mood to answer more questions. All this years that she have known her, Emy knew that Ada is now at her boiling point, her word gets a little too mean with a little to no remorse at this rate, and she understood her well to not let her be triggered more than she already is.
"He doesn't seem to care about us anymore, Emy. He doesn't even care to tell what shit is happening to him now, He wants to avoid us? then from now on I will not give a fuck about him" Emy heard Ada with a low but contemptuous tone, but when she looked at Ada's eyes it appeared to be the opposite of her words as she saw the hurt trying to hold back the tears from coming out.
